I'm having this problem as well..
Multiple ways but one easy one is to go to the market and install incredilight. It'll request Su. If its granted you're rooted. Besides you know you've been wanting an led flashlight anyway. Lol. Also if you can do a Nand backup, you're in. And you should ASAP.
Yes. x86are you on windows 7?
Still not rooted though. It just installed the custom recovery. Not rooted.
are you on windows 7?

where do you get the HBOOT drivers?Okay i got it to work after previous failures.... heres how
Win7 64bit btw
Uninstalled via add/remove programs, HTC drivers, HTC sync
Deleted sdk folder from previous failed root attempts
Deleted all previous drivers and crap downloaded in the past
(Basically get rid of any crappy drivers youve extracted in the past trying to get root)
Uninstall from device manager, reboot, makesure dev.mgnr shows it has no driver installed.
Download and extract hboot drivers
Install downloaded drivers
Set phone to usb debuggin / disk drive,
Hit the exe and walk away
Mine went all the way to done on Windows 7 x64
