Best Buy, $99.99

I just called Sprint (I am a new customer) and they said that the reason they don't price match is because when you buy it from a 3rd party, it's not guaranteed that the device is new. You could be getting a refurb. Not sure how true this is, but that's what they told me.

It looks like an awesome deal. Does anyone know how long this sale is going on for? It goes to show also how much these phones are over priced in the begining.

You must be within the 30 period for BB to give you the price match or be purchasing the phone, if denied then ask for management. I have never had a problem with BB price matching, let alone from their own web site. If within the 30 days AND denied, simply tell them you will now cancel the phone thank you and contract, then goto the site and get the phone there. I missed this one by a single day, lol... I'm happy with $129. Also, the rebates are all INSTANT with BB so if you can, that is where you want to get your phone from.

Sprint is another issue, I have had success but it requires persistence. If you get an operator who doesn't understand or is not giving you what you want best thing to do is just hang up, try again. Absurd, but for real. Like I posted before, you have a better chance after 6pm Eastern Time when calling CS. Dont want to go into specifics but just be firm with what you want. It most positively HELPS if you are a long time customer. I have gotten price matching, discounts and compensated even for time spent waiting on hold for accelerating a complaint, lol, just be nice, but firm!

was your original purchase an upgrade or a new customer activation?

My original purchase was a new customer purchase. My Wife and I jumped ship at Verizon after 12 years.

Sounds like a scare tactic from a cheesy salesman. BB is very good about marking opened and returned merchandise. I would not hesitate to purchase at BB.

I concur. But on their website, it states for New 2yr contracts. If it is a new line of service you should have no problem with a price match. Those who upgraded and renewed their contracts, like myself, is another story....

I've been at work all day, so finally have a chance to respond to this.

As far as the number porting, it's about keeping our phone numbers vs location. I'm in NY but I want to keep my OH phone number, and if I buy them in NY it'll be assigned a local number, but husband will want his OH number too.

I am planning to go open a credit union account before I purchase my phones, if you are a CU member, you get free activation and 10% off your bill.

I am assuming that they dropped the price since the Eris is $99 as well (as far as I know), though it could mean something new is on the horizon. I am tempted to hold out, but I think its worth having a phone in hand sooner (and cheaper).

Thanks again to the OP and for the info about the price matching.

thanks so much! Purchased new line of service 2 days ago..went to BB right now and they price matched no prob. Had it not been for your post I doubt I would've known about this deal!

I just got shot down at my local BB. It states with new 2 yr svc. agreement. That's what their reply was....

Yep, same here. Got shot down with the same reasoning. Technically, I suppose they are correct but I think the right thing to do would just be to refund the difference.

So you cannot get the Hero for $99 as a current Sprint account? What about the $129? I am about to return my Moment--want the Hero.

Also--FYI--Wirefly does offer phones a little cheaper, but they have virtually no customer care. You order through a generic order line. While your phone is being shipped you have access only to online chat or email about order, no phone contact. After you receive your phone, only contact through e-mail. Very frustrating.

I went to Best Buy yesterday to get the phone. My situation was a little strange. My phone/number was paid for by my employer, but am leaving shortly, so I wanted to take my number with me. Sprint setup a personal account for me and the number.
When I went to Best Buy, they said that the sale would be a renewal/upgrade instead of a new account/line. I looked at it the other way, considering I started a new account on my own, but it all came down to the phone number. It basically would be an extra $80 ($179.99 instead of $99.99) for me to keep my current phone number, and I didn't want to do that, even if it would be a pain to start over with a new cell phone number.
Thankfully the manager was nearby and heard everything, and told them to "take care of the customer", so I got it for $99.99. No complaining on my part, just tried to work it out, and they were great to work with.

I bought mine on the 23rd of last month and it was new service. I missed the $50 rewards discount but this will make up for it!! :) Thanks for the heads up I'm going to go there now.

i just went and traded in my pre for the hero yesterday, and i was sitting there waiting for her to tell me that itd be an extra 30 or so dollars to swap to the hero. Then to my suprise she starts pulling money out of the register an gave me 50 bucks back. I didnt say a word because everywhere they had the price of the hero set at 179.99 except for inside the computer =). needless to say im happy to be back to android now ( g1>pre>hero).

I haven't made my hero purchase yet, might be buying two of them. I am pondering whether it's worth the effort to try to get sprint to do it.

I am in a weird situation as I will be sharing a family plan, but the other party will be in a different state. I have to buy the phones, set them up, ship one off, then call sprint to port the phone numbers over.

Is Sprint pretty good about everything even when purchasing from BB? I have heard that people are told to just go there if they have a hardware issue.

Would my second party need to have a copy of the BB receipt if he needed service?

(I know I've hijacked this, sorry)

Just to add a note, Accoreding to my Best Buy store this offer is only good for a NEW LINE OF SERVICE for NEW SPRINT CUSTOMERS ONLY!!! I was adding a new line to my plan and was told I was already a Sprint Customer and that it was not valid for me.

Maybe you can try another Best Buy. It does say in red that the offer is for a new Sprint account. The terms at the bottom of the site say "Select Sprint PCS offers are available exclusively to customers activating a line of service with a two (2) year contract. Value shown based on other listed offers via the Internet." which don't mention a new account.

Thanks for the info ... but dont you think everyone looking for a phone checks out BB, Walmart, Amazon, Costco etc .. anyway ...

Lol, Good way to make an ass out of yourself. :D This comes up as a first page result when poking around with hero keywords including best buy right now. So yeah, his post was actually pretty usefull cause I don't check BB. I check google.
