This is the perfect instance where the cpu hasnt calibrated the battery yet. Let the battery run down completely and do a full cycle charge. Id do it at least 3 times to calibrate the battery.I was at 15% rebooted and now I am at 50% battery.

This happened yesterday before I charged the battery from the store so I accepted it, however, today not so much.
The battery seems to hold off fine, but then as soon as the battery hits about 35%, it goes into a free fall until finally - minutes later - the 5% warning pops up and all of the sudden the phone shuts off and has to be charged to above 10% before it will even turn on.
Has anyone noticed this on their new Droid X (After the primary charge)?

When the battery gets to 40% or so pull it out for a couple minutes then reinstall. If once you reinstall it the phone says it has more battery then before the pull, you need to calibrate it with a few complete discharge and recharge cycles.Hmm it really seems everyone in here is either one way or the either...either think the battery life is superior or disapointing. Here's my situation...It charges VERY fast, under an hour, I haven't been playing with it much at all since that doesn't exactly thrill my girlfriend, and it's stand by time is still only about 6 hours...I sent maybe 5 texts today, 1 phone call, 30 minutes of web surf. I'm starting to get nervous for taking this thing to work...if I unplug at 6 am, it'll be done by noon.

My battery life has been excellent so far. I'm on the same charge from 7am (14.5 hrs ago) and I'm at 40% and I've been playing with it throughout the day...a lot!!

I had my X die today after only 8 hours. This was after a full charge taken off charger at 11:00 AM. Surfing the web for about 1 hour, Google Navigator for 1 hour with display always on and maybe an hour of streaming XM Radio over my bluetooth headphones. Hopefully this will get better.
Static wallpaper, Data set to turn off after 15 mins of inactivity, smart battery profile, bluetooth on GPS on.
Interesting enough my DINC would last me at least 1.5 days with same setup and usage on the stock 1300 maH battery.
