Root How to revert back to an earlier version of HBOOT

Mods, I think this method should be stickied. That would only make four and this is extremely helpful for those who used the leaked OTA and need to get back to stock. What do you think?

You don't even need to pick it. It will scan for it and ask to update. If it says update failed, then its either corrupt, or you didn't reflash the misc partition as outlined here.

I only see path in the lower box under system variables, path, %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\PROGRA~1\DISKEE~1\DISKEE~1\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Teleca Shared:c:\sdk\tools

In the top box all I got is three items. None labeled path.

If you want to be really safe, download the RUU, and extract it. The first time you run it, it extracts it to temp. Hence the directions :)

Once extracted, locate rom.zip and rename it accordingly and you are back in business.

What prompt are you at? A screenshot would be fine. You can use the snipping tool in Windows. Go to start orb run/search and type snip.

At the first prompt I think.

Ok, because you aren't in the Desktop directory.

Type

cd desktop

hit enter

and try again.

A little tip? Hit the up arrow, it will cycle through previous commands.

Quick question(s)...When reverting back to pre-ota(with either method) does it factory reset the entire device? Would I then need to re-download all my apps and set-up my accounts? If so, is there a way to safe some or all of my info without root? Thanks

Agreed; this is worth a sticky. I successfully rolled back to stock from the OTA and my phone is back to it's original SUPER FAST bad a$$ self. Thanks Adrynalyne!!!

I used UnRevoked's one click root, followed in instructions in the OP and then put the PM31IMG.zip on my SD card and it let me downgrade. Worked perfectly.

I'm wondering if you might be able to clarify that statement a bit. Basically, we're looking at...

1. Download RUU package
2. Root via Unrevoked 3.1
3. Extract PB31IMG.zip, find rom.zip, and rename it to PB31IMG.zip
4. ???
5. Copy (the former rom.zip) PB31IMG.zip to the SD card
6. Boot into Clockworkrecovery and hit the PB31IMG.zip option

#4 is where I get foggy... do we still need to do all the adb pushes/mounts if we're still going to use the PB31IMG.zip method? or can we just copy the file, boot into clockwork, run the PB31IMG.zip and we're good as gold?
