The EVO is old news now

I was able to snag my Evo Yesterday after spending some time mulling over the Droid X. Both are great phones and I think it comes down to which service provider works better for you and your calling area.

It's Sprints flagship phone i'm sure there will be more love once more people can get there hands on them and/or improve battery life.

As for the thread headline, yes it's just the fact of the tech world as many have said :)

So far I haven't seen any signs of it being old news. Like always some new smartphone will be coming out next year, it will surpass the EVO with a better processor and features. Hopefully it's a EVO II that will be created to surpass the original.

As long as it a) is still in short supply, so that b) people are still clamoring for it, it's not old news.

WRONG.

A bunch of folks I work with finally got to play with the iPhone 4, Incredible, and Droid X. They all want or already bought the EVO. I don't see any EVO killers on the horizon until next year. Therefore it is NOT old news, it is just not in the news as much as it was was when it was shiny and new.

I'm sad that now the EVO seems to be old news. Everybody talks about the Doid X. Even the Incredible is getting Froyo at the end of July. Is it that HTC already forgot the EVO? :(

Oh baby just wait until the Dell Streak and Samsung Epic come out...

Evo will be a dinosaur in 2 months :(

Went from using a $10.00 Motorola Tracfone for years (loved the simplicity) to a BB Curve (not impressed at all) to the EVO.
Maybe by the time the EVO is actually "old news" I will have found words to describe how incredibly blown away I am.... MAYBE!

You are supposed to switch carriers and buy a new phone every 1-2 months. I thought that was common knowledge. If YOUR phone is not the lead story on Engadget, then you fail at life. It MUST be the latest and greatest or you are plainly and simply a loser.

I budget 3-400 extra dollars a month to pay new carrier fees and buy the newest coolest hippest phone ever. I then spam the crap out of that phone's best forum with OCD questions for 2 months until the next cool phone is released. If my case does not fit properly or there is scratch on the screen or body I melt down and return the phone while screaming bloody murder to anyone that will listen.

It's the only way to live. I suggest you give it a try.

Hey some of us live that life lol

The EVO is only one of few phones that has a front facing camera. I dunno, maybe its just me, but I think video chat is going to take off.

I witnessed Face Time on the iPhone 4 and by gosh, its fricking amazing. If Fring can somehow make their service a bit smoother, I won't be buying a smart phone unless it has a front facing camera. There needs to be a bigger push for video chat.

I know this is only anecdotal, but I showed video chat to a few people and now people I know are asking me what phones have front facing cameras.

The Samsung Epic is FAR from Epic. I played with the Dell Streak months ago and was not impressed. While I like Dell and even do business with them, I don't believe their tablet phone will do much in the smartphone market. It's way too big for your pocket, for one... :)

Long hail the EVO! :D

Epic = Evo without hardware issues, with a proper keyboard, and only 2 mm thicker

Dell Streak = Game changer as long as the user is man enough to handle it :D

Mmmmmmmmmmmm tastes like candy :)

Yes because everyone knows a faster processor and better GPU/Screen combo are bad things.

Just because it isn't talked about as much doesn't mean it can't compete with new phones.

But it's inevitable that the phone will be outdated soon. I acknowledged that a little while ago. The sooner the better.

I agree, video chat is the future. I saw face time today on the Iphone 4 and it was amazing. It kicked Qik ass all up and down the street.

Not really, you have that little problem of only with ip4 users, and only on wifi. Why not just use a webcam? lol

I went to the Gym today and some dude seen me with my Evo when I walked in. He was asking question like how much is it? Is it worth it? People know about the phone. If anything I dont here anybody talking about the Incredible at all. And for the common cell phone user, they cant tell the difference between a Droid X and Evo 4G anyway. The Evo is tuff. I still have a hard time putting it down.

Wifi restriction is a low IQ move by Apple (though the low IQ isnt surprising )

Why the hell wouldn't you just use two computers and skype webcams for free?

I think that's more likely forced on Apple by AT&T, because they don't think their network can handle the traffic. Fring works OK, by the looks of it, but since it's not pre-installed in millions of iP4s and advertised all over the place by Apple, it'll never put the same dent in to AT&T's s****y a** network that a 3G Face Time would.

You guys do know that iPhone4 users can using fring to chat with EVO users over wifi or 3g right? Or is the Apple hate a bit too strong for you to see that?
