Final Fantasy XIV

I'm pretty excited about this upcoming release as I am not a World of Warcraft fan. That statement being made, I am not starting this to bash other online role playing games this is simply my preference.

I am curious to see if anyone else has plans to play this game and their thoughts on it. For those unfamiliar a good resource can be found here.

Though many of the concepts are similar to Final Fantasy 11, some key elements seem to have been changed that will make this a more enjoyable experience.

Ehh, I can't bring myself to touch another P2P (pay-to-play) MMORPG.

Main benefit of pay to play games= Less annoying children with attitude problems. Don't get me wrong I love kids... My kids.

I tried pay to play before and I just can't do it. I don't have the patience to play online games with kids.

I played WoW for 2 years when it was first released. Conquered everything there was to do in the game and it just got boring and repetitive. I quit right before they released the first expansion pack (Burning Crusade, I think?).

For me, it's about wasting my $ b/c I won't be as dedicated to it as I once was when I was much younger and had ample leisure time.

The thing that makes FFXI and FFXIV different from other MMOs is that they actually have a solid storyline complete with actual missions and cutscenes. There is way more to do than just quest and grind.

I can't wait for this! Though, unless they drop the requirements a tad fromt he beta (My gfx card JUST can't cut it in my laptop and it's the best one I can get for it D: ), then I will be forced to wait for the PS3 release.. ; ;

You are definitely right in that respect but in essence it's the same thing, even if the storyline is 100x better. You still fight tons and tons of mobs to level up and enter dungeons w/ your clan/guild/etc..

right, but when you don't feel like doing that stuff, there is tons of other stuff to do! Take FFXI for example, there are missions (an entirely new set of missions and an entirely new story line is implemented with each expansion), mini-games, such as casino, chocobo raising, treasure hunting (both chocbo treasure hunting, and coffer/chest treasure hunting), Notorious Monster hunting, etc... SE does an amazing job at keeping people indulged in the game.

I played FFXI for quite some time. Finished 3 characters to 75 (PLD, WAR and SAM). Sold the account because it all gets old after a while. The only games that really hold my attention anymore are sports games.

+1 I played ffxi for a long amount of time.. lvl 75 PLD RDM BLM BRD SAM MNK WHM BLU NIN WAR DRG RNG. MMOs are the biggest grinds... I dont even know why I played for so long, half the time you spend looking for something to do. Best $180 I spend every year is for FIFA, NHL, and Madden I play these games from release date to new years version.

Ya it was a little longer.. dont remind me... lol

No worries. I wasted 2 years of my life on World of Warcraft. When I realized how stupid I was for playing it I quit (right before the release of the 1st expansion pack Burning Crusade).

My character net me $600 USD on eBay so I'm not really gonna complain.

That is awesome! i actually have stayed away from WOW but recently i have thought about playing it but so far have restrained myself...

As for the newest FF, anyone know how it compares to past story lines?

Thankfully my wife is also a fan. The system requirements means I get a new toy. She isn't a PC gamer so she is waiting for the PS3 release as well.

Well, I must say that is a much cheaper habit. GameStop has tons of the previous years releases in the bargain bin.

When I do manage to get some spare time these days I've noticed that I only play Madden NFL 10 or MLB2K10. I certainly agree to the fact that it's a much cheaper habit.
