Help How is the battery life on the Droid X?

Motorola Droid X: Thoroughly Reviewed - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News

My battery life is definitely more on par with anandtech's review, and their review has been the most quantitative thus far. Other articles give rough qualitative estimates much like what other users on here are reporting.

Everyone has a different idea of what "heavy use" "moderate use" or "light use" is. Until you break it down like the article, it really just misleads people.

Of course the other possibility is that I have a faulty battery or a phone that uses more juice than everyone else, but I highly doubt that.

Under settings there is a brightness setting. You can set it to manual and set the brightness yourself.

Battery for me is decent, I am using the HELL out of it and I think the games I am on all day are battery hogs. It actually gets warm while I run the games.

Thanks for the help...but I do have that installed. the only thing I like to leave on is the syncing.

I have wifi on at home and sync is always off. I've been getting emails left and right home and work where sync and wifi are both off.

There are more menus on this thing than any phone I know. I was getting terrible battery life, and thought everything was off accept background data, using smart mode. But going back thru the menus, I found in accounts/gmail everything was still synced; Calendar, contacts, and gmail. I turned these all off, tweaked launcherPro memory settings. Wow, what a difference! Went 13 hrs with intermittent heave use and battery level was at 60% still. Next mornin checked phone and still at 60%. I do have the brightness down to about 25%, and stopped using AppKiller as was suggested.

I get about 26 hours on Battery saver mode. I'm going to try smart mode for the next two days as well.
Eagerly waiting for the extended battery. 1mm extra for an addtional 400mAH == :-)

How can I see the battery level Graphically? Only way I have found is to go to Settings -> About Phone -> Status. You can only see the percentage there. When mine drained all the way last night there was a graphical battery with a liquid looking level inside it on the screen. It went away after the phone got to about 15% and I can't seem to find that anywhere.

Also I can not get the Droid X to charge over USB. I tried all the drivers Moto had and although my XP laptop can see the phone it does not charge.

when you plug your x into the computer pull down the notification bar then touch the usb connection and you should be able to mount it then it should charge =)

After a phone call, I had Verizon send me a replacement battery today after going through allllll the different recommendations the CSR had for me lol..of course I had tried them all already and then some. But hopefully between the new battery and/or the update coming up next week, I'll have better battery life!!

May I ask, what did they have you try and what happened to the old battery?

Unplugged for 15 hours here and only at 60%. I have texted quite a bit and talked on the phone for maybe an hour. Used market and browser a few times as well....not real heavy use today but not really incredibly light either

Unplugged for 22 hours, checked a email a couple times and took a couple 5 minute phone calls, then drove for 4 hours so wifi was off and BT was on. I still have 80%. Now WIFI is back on and BT off.

Downloaded Battery Left app from market it gives 1% readings instead of 10%. Had to fully charge my X then let it drain completely to calibrate the app. A little before the phone died, it gave the stock 5% warning, looked at battery usage and been unplugged for 8hr 42m 15s, display 97% (tried to leave the display on all the time).

I had all settings on and maxed ie. brightness-100%, all volumes maxed, gps on w/ assisted gps, bluetooth (using for phone calls), auto sync, and left wifi off because I'm have the issues where it drops connections every once and a while. Was using Pandora for a good 3 hours, watched a movie I sided loaded for an hour, and heavy web surfing
This is great battery life for me by my standard because I know I'll get more out of it with settings turned down/off.:D

My battery has been awesome! It actually improved over time. I guess I'm proving the whole enhanced performance with more charging cycles theory.

It's been so good that when I receive my replacement, I'm keeping this battery. :)

From 100% to 60% in 2 hours, and it's not even charging now while it's plugged into my work computer. Must be bad cable, I am using Blackberry Storm USB Cable.

I left my phone plugged into my computer last night and it charged several hours after it reached 100%. I unplugged it and went to bed.

This morning it said 90%.

I doubt I've used my phone for more than 2 minutes today.

Right now it says 18h 15m 18s since unplugged.
Standby 68%
idle 23%
display 9%
wifi 2%

... and it still says 90%. :D

(edit)
... and I'm running live wallpaper, and weather live wallpaper.

Battery life is awesome when you don't use live wallpaper, use task killer, and switch the battery manager from 'performance' to 'saver.' Battery life will be normal if you use Beautiful Widgets live weather wallpaper, use task killer, and switch battery manager from 'performance' to'smart.' You can still run widgets like weather, news, social networking, ESPN scoreboard, and others.

I'm in "smart" mode and have beautiful widgets running. I have been on the phone for 2 hours today, texted a lot, browsed online a little bit....sent 2 e-mails....I'm at 50% right now after 16 hours off the charger. I do use ATK

Just got my phone yesterday 7/26 charged it and unpluged at 2:30 today. Its 7:10 and my battery at 30%. The first 15 minutes of use after the charge it was at 80%. Maybe because its new and a couple of more charges will increase it if not gonna go exchange it. Also is anybody else phone heating up while in use I have a case and I can still feel a little heat. Did everyone have a bad battery life at first and it got better after a few charges.

My battery life seems to have improved and i'm quite happy with it. I got 18 hours of battery life since last charged yesterday and it still had 30% battery life left. I used the browser, checked facebook, some texting, and pandora.

My battery life has been improving since day one. Yesterday it came down to 20hrs with moderate use, and the battery was at 20%. But i will say that my BB storm with the display settings and volume settings set to the highest had better battery life then this.

I downloaded Battery Left Widget and it says a 100% charge will last 8 hours on my battery. I'm only running a few widgets, screen brightness on auto, and light use (such as pandora and other various radio apps).

8 hours sounds awful doesnt it? I'm not using ATK or anything like that.

I unplugged at 8:45am yesterday, it's 1:23am and it's begging me for a charge at 15%. Medium-heavy usage, wifi off, gps on for an hour.

16h 55m 20s unplugged
78% display
9% standby
10% voice calls
3% phone idle

ATK is evil. AutoKiller is better, but you need root. I'm running a pretty strict battery profile, data timeout @ 15mins Always seemed to increase my life significantly. I check my phone enough, so the 15min timeout is no biggie to me.

I'm getting a replacement battery tomorrow. We'll see how this one holds up.

Via mail or going to a store? Let me know how that goes, because I think I may need a new one as well.

I unplug around 8AM, after maybe 10 minutes of checking email, it drops to 90%. It doesn't take long to drop to 80% (like another 30 minutes tops with NO activity), but that seems to hold for a bit. By the time I get home around 5:30, I am at 30-40% and need to charge by 10PM. I would consider myself a light user.

I have it in smart mode, brightness turned all the way down. Updates to weather every 4 hours, email every 1 hour. ESPN Scores update when I activate it. Some web browsing, facebook, few short calls, couple of texts...nothing dramatic. And I just put in a task manager to help me kill apps I forget to. It seems to be getting better, but what happens if I am not around a charging source!

I've been having really big issues with my battery. For one, the battery display is very erratic and inaccurate. It will say I'm fine, drop down to 20% or so and yellow, then I'll turn it off and it will go back into green. Very weird.

The main problem, though, is that the battery is just not lasting long. Anywhere from 4-6 hours with moderate use. I've dimmed the screen. I use app killer. I'm not watching tons (or any) YouTube. No games. Am taking some pictures, but not a ridiculous amount. Went into a Verizon store to see how much a spare battery would cost (was told $40) and someone there who also had an X complained about the battery also (and said he had had much better battery performance with his old iPhone 3GS which he traded in for a Droid).

I am having the exact same issues. I had a Droid and the battery was way better than this. I am going to let it die a couple times and see if this helps than I am sending it back.
