There is a 3. something update Already. I checked on sprints support website.
...one video for froyo when you go into settings the options are not colored, when you text someone the keyboard is much different than 2.1 a the comma button as well as arrow buttons are taken away and you must click a button to get to them and in my opinion the keyboard layout is a lot better in 2.1
The evo 4g is my 1st android phone but from some youtube videos of either leaked froyo on the evo or hacked froyo on the evo it seems that other than froyo being faster 2.1 has better things to it, one video for froyo when you go into settings the options are not colored, when you text someone the keyboard is much different than 2.1 a the comma button as well as arrow buttons are taken away and you must click a button to get to them and in my opinion the keyboard layout is a lot better in 2.1 and instead of each "scene" where you can add widgets and stuff with 2.1 having 7 pages to choose from froyo has only 5. So can someone please tell me why everyone is so pumped for froyo because other than it being faster from the videos I have seen I like 2.1 better.
I'm not too concerned about whether or not the settings and options are colored, I'd rather have a faster more efficient running system (Which is what Froyo is all about!) than goofy colors on my settings. Interesting about the keyboard. Maybe there will be a way to choose a 2.1 style keyboard. Maybe someone with some know how can strip it out of 2.1 or create a facsimile and build an .apk that we could install to Froyo if we wanted. Also, there are always 3rd party keyboards you could try out?
Well first and fore most, any video you have seen was of a port of Froyo on a Rooted EVO. That port is essentially Vanilla Android without the HTC Sense add ons. SO that Keyboard you saw is stock android not the HTC one we have. Plus that port is from an older build of Froyo if I am not mistaken. 2.2 will not change much of our UI if I had to guess.
Oh I didnt know that, so basically the froyo update that we will be getting will have all of the of the sense widgets and add ons we already have on 2.1?
Do we even have a link to the press release on a Sprint owned web site?

Details from the Sprint support site posted above.
The official date of the update is today.
Every reason to trust the roll-out date.
As someone mentioned, the 30th isn't mentioned in the Sprint Community posting.
I am on my EVO and maybe I am missing it. Can someone quote from link above where It says the 30th?
The way I read It, you can start requesting it the 1st, offers to update will trickle out the 3rd, and everyone will have offer to upgrade by mid August.
If we don't get it tomorrow, Sunday or the 3rd will be fine as well. Either way, it is good news! I just hope we see 3.0 later this year!
That's a bummer, Dude...If I can't get Froyo at 12:00.01 PM tomorrow, I am returning my EVO to Best Buy!!!
I have gone through most every post so far in this thread and no one really touches on this question:
Will it be better to wait a few days after the Froyo release to see that the guys at XDA can do about rooting the new version? I mean are we are so eager to jump onto 2.2 that those who have rooted, or are wanting to root are willing to jeopardize their roots with the possibility of Sprint/HTC locking down the wireless tether? Is the wireless tether even worth it, or should we download 2.2 and deal with the consequences later?
With good, must come evil...
