Anyone using Tasker?

I'm using Tasker currently for battery saving mode and silencing my phone between certain hours. Not very exciting yet, but..

I am attempting to use the Notify LED task for when I receive SMS from certain users but I can't get the LED to change on my Droid. Le sigh. If anyone figures that out, please post. I'd be most thankful. :D

Edit - I'm an idiot. You have to disable notifications. I'm using the default msg app and disabled notifications and now it is working. Go to all messages, click settings, disable notification.

As for my GPS question, I have found the answer in playing with the device and checking the user guide.

Apparently if you have a location based item and you select Net and GPS, tasker will check your location by GPS every so many seconds (or minutes) depending on whether the phone is awake or asleep. You can define this check period in the settings. The alternative is to use Net location only (which uses cell towers) and expand the radius to allow for location discrepancies.

Now, I have another question...can you create a Yes / No dialog box? For example, I get near the grocery store, I have the phone notify my (based on location). I want a popup that asks something along the lines of "Do you need anything at the store?" with a Yes / No dialog box. If I select Yes, load OurGroceries app. If I select No, stops the task.

I know I can change the Open App action to a menu, but it is just a popup menu that you have to either click on to launch the app, or wait for it to time out. I would like to be able to just click no and stop it there without waiting for the menu to timeout. The menu interface also isn't very clean, as it just says the name of the action and doesn't provide for custom text entry (that I can find).

It's a little complicated, but yes. You could set a "Yes" and "No" task with the Yes task being what you want to happen if you hit "Yes" and "No" being what you want to happen if you hit "No." Make sure you set the names for the tasks as "Yes" and "No". Then create a new Task based on location. Choose "Alert" and then "Popup Task Names". This allows you to put two tasks and have a menu pop up asking you to pick one. You could set the title to be "Do you need groceries" and there you go. Let me know if you need more clarification on it, I tried to type it out quickly.

This worked, but I have one small issue...

When it initially pops up it shows an alert that says "groceries" and I have to click that to get the Yes / No options. Any way around that or just something I have to deal with?

It's not deal-breaker. Just a nuisance really.

You must have an extra alert that says "groceries". If you just use "Popup Task Names", you can put "Do you need groceries?" in the text box and then choose the two Tasks below that.

I still had it listed as a Menu task instead of an Execute. Thanks again!
 
Hey There,

Just got Tasker yesterday, and the few things I can do with it are well worth the $6. But I'd really like to know more, especially how to fully use the variables and such. Can anyone point me to at very least a list of the variables and how to use/format them? Even better would be a list of step by step for ideas beyond the TaskerWiki. It would be appreciated.

If you go to Menu->Info->Userguide there's a link there for Variables. It has a big list of them.
 
I cannot figure out how to make this work. I hope someone can help and would appreciate it so much.

What I want to do is while running a particular app, tasker will send an sms to anyone who texts me with a message such as I'm sleeping or playing a game etc.
Example being I use Gentle Alarm for my alarm. I wish tasker would send an sms to anyone who texts me that I'm sleeping IF that app is open. (I use it's night display as a visual clock).

Any help would be great. :D

Here is a link from the developer's site on how to auto-respond to SMS messages sent at a certain time. You could easily modify that for when you're using a specific application. Just change the Time context to an App context.

I've been beta testing Tasker for months and literally have dozens of profiles, some of which are based on network-only locations, and some of which use GPS-based locations. However, I only have GPS enabled when my Droid is charging. At the end of the day, without having connected to a charger, Android tells me that Tasker has used 2-3% of my battery.

I think using GPS locations without a charger connected is not a good idea. This really has nothing to do with Tasker specifically, but has to do with GPS being a big power drain.

I have also seen evidence in my logs, and when observing My Location in Google Maps, that network-only locations utilize Wifi information to determine my location. I setup Tasker to toggle my Wifi on and off every 30 seconds, and watched My Location (and its accuracy) in Google Maps change as Wifi was turned on and off.

The problem with that is that he doesn't tell you how to make that. It's for downloading the profile and if you want to change it you have to load it. You can't load it if you're using the trial. I'm doin the trial ;)
 
I myself am having a problem with setting up an alarm clock. I have it all set up to go off at 8 am every morning, which it will "Say" Wake up and go to the gym" then play one of my ringtones. I set up a gesture for picking up the phone but it won't let me set the gesture to stop the music from playing. Any ideas?
 
I just installed this app so far all I have it doing is automaticly turning GPS on when I open a few location based applications but other then that I haven't taken the time to learn anything else. There are a few things I'd like it to do but it's a complicated app , I'll get around to learning it

Its tough, but definitely useful. I actually just finished setting up a profile so that if I'm home and my phone is plugged in that the phone will be set to silent from midnight to 8 am and will auto reply SMS saying that I'm asleep. I'd like to see an iphone do that :cool:

I know I changed my settings at one time, but have probably removed and reinstalled Tasker since then, causing it to revert to the defaults. Anyway, here are my settings:

Display On Timings
Application Check: 1000
Wifi Scan: 120
GPS Check: 120
Network Location Check: 30
GPS Timeout: 90

Display Off Timings
All Checks: 600
Timeout: 60

General Timings
Wifi Timeout: 20

Gestures
Initial Sample Rate: 300
Match Radius: 3.5
Match Reset Time: 1200
 
So far I've got profiles set up to turn off my ringer and notifications from 10pm to 6am and to set my phone to vibrate when I am within 5km of work.

Can anyone give me a walkthough to set up my phone to audibly ring through for certain contacts no matter the sound setting? (like family, work, gf)

Quick questyion, i have set up a task to turn on wifi when i entyer my location of my home, and set an exit task to turn wifi off.

Is this correct? Does the exist task execute when i leave the defined boundary? Or do i need to create a new task to turn off wifi when i leave?
 
lekky: You don't even need an exit task. Any settings that Tasker makes in an entry task will be returned to their original state when the profile goes inactive.

I'm doing exactly this, but in a more-complicated-than-necessary way, since I setup my profiles before certain states within Tasker were available. Here's what I would do now.

Let's say you want calls from home and from work to ring using the ringer at maximum volume, regardless of the current settings. Let's also say that your home number is 8005551212 and your work number is 8665551234. Here's the profile you would setup:

Profile: Priority Caller
Context: Incoming Call [Caller Number: 8005551212/8665551234]
Enter Task Action: Silent Mode [Mode: Off]
Enter Task Action: Ringer Volume [Level: 7]
Enter Task Action: Vibrate on Ringer [Set: On]

When a call comes in from either number, Tasker will turn off silent mode, maximize the ringer volume, and make the phone vibrate when it rings. Once the phone stops ringing (i.e. you answer or miss the call), these settings are returned to their pre-call values.

Mine is a little more complicated (not just due to the capabilities of Tasker when I set it up). My profile gradually increases the ringer volume every few seconds, starting at 3, then 5, then 7. This gives me a chance to answer the call before the ringer gets too intrusive.
 
In Uncle Mike's example above there are two Enter Tasks in one context? I can't work out how to do that!!
