Do you care about the actual phone though? Samsung is very well known for releasing phones with antennas that are on the weak side.

You can watch all the youtube video comparisons and take into consideration everyones point of view but when its all said and done it will be up to you to go out there and get your hands on experience and decide what phone works for you best and what carrier is best for you, which i feel should be the the first choice.

I tried the Evo for 3 weeks prior to getting the DX. In a nutshell, the Evo seemed to have the software much better integrated and smoother. The DX seems to be much better built and has better hardware specs. As bad as the battery life is for the DX, the Evo was much worse. I never had any the lags, stutters, delays or lock ups with the Evo.
When I ran the speed test on the two, the DX was about 8 times faster in my home area than was the Evo. There is no doubt, Verizon has the best network across the country.
Front facing camera means nothing to me. By the time 4G is prevalent enough to make a difference, most of the people here will be on to the next phone anyway.
I hated the power button on the top of he Evo. Had to be one of the worst mechanical designs I've seen in awhile. I like that I can use the home button to turn on the DX, I never use the top button except for completely powering it down.

Thanks for all the input. I actually found a DX at my local Walmart and got it this afternoon. So far I really like it. Its on par with the speed of my iphone4 and I enjoy the larger screen. That is one gripe I have with the iphone. The screen is amazing but way to small. I think the only thing the iphone has on Android right now is the App Store and the number of quality Apps.

I had the Evo when it first came out and I loved it. I loved the look of the device and Sense UI. But I had to give it up because I got really bad service where I needed it most: at home and work. I would get between 1 or 2 bars at home, and 0 to 2 bars at work. Most times at work I was roaming on Verizons network lol. Unfortunately I had to take it back. I mean they were charging an extra $10 for my media experience and I was not getting it. Also the battery life was pretty bad.
I now have the X and comparing it to the Evo I can say battery life is better on the X. The camera was better on the Evo. I feel like the button on my X is too wobbley. I like Sense alot. The social widget was amazing. Just the look of Sense was really polished and I didnt have to do too much customization. Now with the X I completely customized it. I am using ADW launcher and its looking great. The X is a keeper for me at least for another year lol. But ultimately its your choice. Like the other posters said play with each phone, watch a couple of videos and make your decision.

I had been doing a lot of research on these and xda forums but did not find too much info about bad reception. I must have over looked it if your pointing it out.

i don't think he was saying the the galaxy s lines are known for bad reception, as much as Samsung in general has week radios. Same goes for HTC reallly. As far as android phones go, nobody has really topped what the moto guys have done in terms of reception. the eris was atrocious, as well as the incredible, and it would suffice to say the evo would have the same issue unless they changed something drastically.
evo has better software and more user friendly interface....Motorola has a better physical build quality feels more durable...if both phones were on verizon, id get the Evo because i dont need the phone to last that long anyhow. i plan to upgrade to a new phone every 18 months.

From what I've seen, the EVO looks like a very nice phone....and HTC has been doing some very nice work!
That being said, I haven't actually used this phone so can only speak from videos/pics that I've seen. I used to have Sprint a few years ago though and wasn't really happy with Sprint....and I had an iPhone with AT&T...same thing, quality just wasn't there.....so I went with Verizon. Service is great and the X has not let me down at all. GREAT phone and I have almost full bars anywhere I've been so far. Best of both worlds

I've use both and prefer the Evo over the X. The Evo to me somehow was much more smooth and stable than the X. Both phone are awesome android phone. Can't go wrong with either one. To me having a front camera for video chat and 4g was the tie breaker. Since I have excellent 4g coverage in my area this was the phone for me. If you are in the are of a 4g market get the Evo. Don't worry about the 30fps cap as that will be remove soon, also unlike the X the Evo can put a custom ROM in it. With the X you will have to wait and see if someone can get around the efuse otherwise it will be brick.

curious as to who you video chat with

I have family and friends with the Evo, so video chat with them is not an issue using Qik. Use to do video chat with Skype user using fring up until recent event with Fring and Skype. The Evo has all the hardware and software I need for the next year or two until another monster phone comes out. Also waiting for Google to add video call as a standard feature to Android OS. When that day comes my Evo will be ready.

If you absolutely need to flash custom roms, go with the Evo. Otherwise, go with the X. I spent a lot of time trying to decide between the two and, to be honest, the X is the obvious choice. Internally, the X has a better processor, better RAM, and a better GPU. The Evo's 1GHz snapdragon cpu is built on a 65nm architecture while the X's 1GHz is built on a 45nm architecture. This means the X's processor uses less power to achieve the same performance. This means better battery life and more headroom for overclocking. The Evo uses LPDDR1 ram while the X uses LPDDR2 ram. LPDDR2 ram has about twice the bandwidth of LPDDR1 while using about a third less power. This means much better performance while using less power. The Evo's Adreno 200 gpu blows, while the X's PowerVR SGX530 is quite good (though not as good as the iPhone or the Galaxy S). Any way you cut it, the X is far superior internally.
The X also has a higher build quality, though of course some people may still prefer the Evo's looks (I don't know how, though). The X's screen is consistently rated as better than the Evo's as well.
The X also has a bigger battery, as well as having more power efficient hardware and also pretty good battery saving software. Thus, the X has much better battery life.
Software-wise, the stock Sense is better than the stock Motoblur. Of course, you're going to want to install ADW or Launcher Pro anyway, so the basic interface will kick ass on either phone. Sense also has a few nice widgets, but there are apps in the market to replicate pretty much everything Sense offers.
The X comes with 8GB internal memory and a 16GB sdcard. The Evol comes with 1 GB internal memory and an 8GB card.

I make all my decisions based on the coverage and call quality and I know Sprint is the same type of technology but their service in my area fluctuates in and out were as I get consistent coverage with verizon. Also I was not impressed with the build quality of HTC with the Dinc I has before the X.
Damn people, before you post something, at least try and make sure you know what you are talking about. You can video chat over 3g & 4g as well on the EVO from day 1.
What does HTC's midlevel devices have anything to do with the EVO which is their high end device?
Also, not to mention Motorola makes some of the crappiest devices out there, mid level or high level. Are people really that blind to Moto's crappy phones?

the same issues my evo and incredible did
If you look on the hero/eris forums you are likely to see the very same complaints in the evo forums
Complaints that i never see much of in lg. Motorola or samsung
Either way but devices are great
