Made the switch

So I made the switch from droid to the Eris. I just like sense and wasn't happy with the slider form of the droid.

Congrats and welcome to the Droid forums. I too have switched (from the iphone) to the Eris. Spent plenty of time at the Verizon store using both the Moto Droid and the HTC Eris. Coming from the iphone was no easy task with the phone market these days but I had to see what the Droid units provided.

The iphone is still very fluid in all it's tasks, but after trying both the Droids out, I picked up the "Eris" for a 30 day trial. It has a lot of unique features that I quite enjoy over the iphone. For business, I like the notifications (alert sounds and track ball glow) to show me I have messages waiting for me. The iphone doesn't have these features.

I also found that "Multitasking" with the Droid was actually very nice. Playing "Pandora" while I was working other tasks on the phone went well and while I did notice that there was more lag when I have a lot of applications open, for the most part it is tolerable.

The more I use the phone, the more I enjoy the "Sense UI" --- It's that good !!!!!!

made the switch too.I'm much happier with this phone. The battery seems ok so far. Let drain completely and I'm still at %82 percent from light use.Will drain 2 more times, thats what i'm reading on this forum. Soon as i find a good extra battery and cradle this won't be a issue with me.

It really is that good. I went from iPhone 3g -> 3gs -> Sprint Hero ->Motorola Droid -> Droid Eris.
A couple of things that I liked about the Eris over the Hero are the network, proximity sensor, and the 18 bit display. It's not as nice the Motorola Droid, but it's still very nice.
I don't think Android will support higher than 65k colors until 2.0, but no biggie. I probably won't notice a huge difference in all honesty.
Droid's display was gorgeous and some of the improvements were much welcomed, but overall it felt bland. I ran Panda Home, Open Home, and dxtop for home replacements and wasn't extremely impressed. They were better than stock home, but in all honesty I didn't like them as much as I like Sense. Sense is more than just a pretty UI, I like the people app and how it ties everything together.
All-in-all I'm happy with the phone and knew what to expect having used the Sprint Hero.

Me too, I went from the Samsung Omnia -> iphone 3gs -> Moto Droid ->Droid Eris.

Just had the eris for a couple of days and its a much better experience.All the eye candy that comes from the droid will get old and then what usually ends up happening with me, the things that you think you would get use to, you don't and end up regretting. All the big specs that come with the doid i will, in the long run not use.I will never watch a whole movie,play graphic intensive games etc... When the eris gets the first patch and upgrade to 2.0 i know i made the right decision. A lot of the complaints with the battery and lag will probably be fixed.I remember a lot of phones like the storm were awful when first released(my buddy has the original storm and says after the patches its a good phone).

I'm done with win mobile I think its on its way out between iphone and android to compete with. Owning a win mobile cell phone is like carrying around win98 desktop.

I had my first and last WinMo phone back in 2008. I used it for 6 months, then moved to the iPhone and away from Verizon. That was the start of my nightmarish experience with AT&T.
Of course, at that time my reasoning was that I could pay $30.00 a month using a device that sucked or pay $30 a month for a device that rocked yet only worked in the city.
I went with the rocking device on a crappy network, now I have the best of both worlds. A great device on a rocking network. Since my wife doesn't care for or use a data plan no her phone we still keep our bill low. $124 a month after my corporate discount. It's maybe $10 more than a comparable Sprint plan for us. While Sprint offers more bells and whistles, Verizon gets us the minutes/text/data we use plus the coverage we need. We have many family and friends who live deep in the woods and Verizon offers 3g in those areas.

I found a huge difference between Moto Droid and Eris within a few minutes of use. I knew automatically that I wanted Eris more than Moto Droid. I came from G1 so using Android was no problem and I knew my way around it. SOOOOO much better than G1 and Moto Droid. No brainer.

Did anyone think the Motorola was flimsy? I did.

I found that after 2 weeks of use that the slider mechanism was become more loose then I would like. I would reach in my pocket and find the phone halfway open. I couldn't imagine how it would be 6 months down the road. I prefer pocketing my phones, can't stand belt clips.

Me too. This was a huge reason for buying the Eris over the droid. The Droid never would have worked well in a pocket.

I too made the switch last night. And I'm happy I did. The little things that bothered me about the Droid, size, weight, slide out qwerty, answering calls, no call or end buttons have all been taken care of with the Eris.
