Orange Customers: Restore your Google applications

thanks for replying

i have 7 widget pages ...the home page and then 3 either side.

and it does show 3G when connected but 9 times out of 10 the H is displayed. i guess i have a good reception area.
 
new question then, am i able to change this and if so how?

although i suspect its a root issue but hoping its not ... :(

I hope we can change it via re-flashing HTC tattoo via goldcard method which did not work on mine yet. I have lost two days trying it as on HTC Hero but for some reason Tattoo does not seek for CLICIMG.zip as it supposed to but seeks for CLICDIAG.zip instead...
Has anyone manged to dig deeper the issue?
 
I performed this process and it worked as expected. The phone did need a reboot after installing the Gmail parts but now works the same as my HTC Magic. Thanks again.

Thanks for tip, I reinstalle Gmail, rebooted phone and it started to work! Great stuff tonyyeb!
 
Unzip them on your PC first, then copy the 4 .apk files to your phone using the USB cable. When that is done go to the market and look for a file manager. Download and install that, then run it. Find the .apk files that you copied from the zip and open each one in turn. They should install similar to applications from the market. I installed in the order of -> Google Talk, You Tube, GMail Provider then GMail. Then I rebooted and everything worked.

I've tried that too and it worked! Nevertheless it keeps crashing when trying to update. Has it happened to someone else? I've rebooted several times and it happens always. GTalk and YouTube work perfectly :)

When you say update do you mean when the phone is sync'ing with Google?
 
Yes, sorry, I'm translating from my spanish tattoo :) I mean it crashes when you update (sync) your Inbox when you are in the App, or when it tries to sync with Gmail when you are on the Homescreen. It shows an error related to com.google.process.gapps process. Any clues?

Try uninstalling GMail Provider and GMail, then reboot. Then reinstall in this order: GMail Provider then GMail. Try running GMail, it probably will hang, use a Task Killer app to kill it. Then reboot again. That is pretty much what I did and it has been working ever since. E-mails arrive within seconds of being sent, an audible notification can be heard and it shows the @ in the notification bar.
 
Bad luck! I've just tried what you said and it doesn't work :( After the reboot Gmail works, but whenever it tries to update the Inbox or to sync the same error message pops. Thanks anyway! I'll keep searching :)
 
can anyone post the file for the market apk? extracted and installed one from the WWE HTC Tattoo rom but it doesn't work.

I suspect the Market application, if it has been removed from your device, could not easily be re-installed since it would suffer from the same issue that the GMail application has with attachments - the Market relies on the Download Manager to actually download the applications, so without being installed to the system it probably won't be allowed to run properly!

I appreciate that the method you described is the best way of restoring the phone to how HTC intended! The information in this post, however, is aimed at those people who do not want to risk bricking their phone but simply want to install the missing Google applications.
 
I've been badgering Orange for some time on this, and finally got an acknowledgement of the issue. Removing the apps was a "business decision," which they're not going to justify. There's no evidence they're going to issue any software upgrade, and I've requested a report to management of widespread customer dissatisfaction... I can't see any way of taking it further, other than a written complaint.

To Orange's credit, they did allow this issue to count as a fault, so you can return a handset and cancel your contract even after the 7-day cool off period. So if you're unhappy, call Orange, report the fault, and post your handset back. I'm trying to decide if I can be bothered to withdraw my business from Orange over this...
 
Well my partner looks like she will go back to the IMAP in the Mail app as Google Mail has started to crash on a regular basis. Might give Activesync settings another try.
 
I just followed this guide to reinstall the apps on my daughter's Tattoo and it worked with no problems - many thanks Terranim.

As recommended by Tonyyeb, I installed the GMail Provider package directly before the GMail package and then rebooted before attempting to open any of the new apps.

The file manager I used was EStrongs but that's just my own personal preference.
