Help After froyo, gmail is no longer pushed instantly. Any ideas?

i'm having major problems with gmail. it won't sync. tried deleting the cache and clearing data in the applications setting and it didn't work. when i open gmail, it says "no connection".

Just tested and from the time I pressed send to the time it beeped on my phone was 10 seconds.

I'm having the same problem. Two gmail accounts, and since updating to Froyo emails are not being pushed to either account. This is very troubling. I have come to rely quite heavily on this feature.

After seeing this thread I noticed I wasn't getting any Gmail either, and Friendstream was way behind, too.

Went into Accounts & Sync, saw that Auto-sync was unchecked, so I checked it and everything seems to be fine again.

Two things to try.

First make sure under your accounts and sync that your g-mail accounts are clicked on.

Then, go into your gmail account on your computer. While logged in, hit refresh on your phone in the gmail app. Some e-mails should start coming in. If not, hit the refresh again or wait a minute and hit refresh again. Repeat this for any other accounts. I did this yesterday, and my sync came back after it had stopped working.

Another thing to try that seems to have worked for me. Go into manage applications and go into gmail. Then clear cache. You will NOT lose any email. After this, just wait for the next email to arrive. Mine have come in on time or very close to since I have done this.

Cleared cache, didn't help anything on my end...

I tried this, and I'm happy to report everything appears to be back to normal now. I'll test more throughout the day, but it's looking good.

I tried to clear the cache, but it was grayed out, and wouldn't let me.

My main account is my work email which is run on Google apps. It appears to be working but my second account that is just a regular gmail account is not synching. Maybe its a gmail issue?

I can safely say I tried this and it did NOT work.

I think maybe you just had a blast of good luck.

Same problem. Primary account (personal) works just fine. The secondary gmail account (work) does not sync. Both accounts are gmail.com accounts not apps. Gmail push was working just perfectly till last night on android 2.1. The sync on secondary gmail stopped working after I upgraded it to 2.2 last night. Infact I didnt even notice the problem till I missed my meeting this morning becase the email never arrived on the phone.

Earlier the gmail push was working *without* talk.. with ATK installed and autokilling apps... Now with 2.2 I have no autokiller.. I also tried factory reset and tried it without installing any apps and the problem still existed... I cant believe more people are not plauged with this problem...

Here is a summary from what I have read about this issue so far.

1) This is not isolated to HTC EVO
2) The secondary gmail not syncing seems to be a froyo problem (there are a few threads about this for android 2.1 but they refer to all gmail not syncing. Froyo does not have the option for "gmail storage" to clear data)
3) Factory reset does not help
4) Adding and removing accounts does not help
5) Same problem with any secondary account I add
6) Its not related to a particular gmail account because they dont work the other EVO as the secondary email either.
7) Cannot clear cache in gmail (grayed out)
8) Did a battery pull, removed and replaced SD card (suggested on some forum)... did not help

I currently have a workaround. I have forwarded my secondary gmail to [mysprintnumber]@messaging.sprintpcs.com

that way I receive an SMS when email arrives in my gmail and then I manually sync in the gmail app. Works for now, but I dont want this to be a permanent solution. This is android... the least Google could do is make gmail (and its other services) work on this perfectly.

Someone at Google, HTC or Sprint please take notice..

Device: HTC EVO
Carrier: Sprint
Country: US
OS: Android 2.2 (/w HTC Sense) - Official froyo update from sprint

This did not work for me, but then I went to Settings>Accounts & Sync> Google>Sync Gmail -- this was just to get Gmail working again after loading 2.2.

However, it does not seem to push the email. I have to Refresh to get it. (Meanwhile my non-gmail HTC Mail now pushes.)

I think it works now... This is the first time I have gotten auto sync to work on my secondary account in 2 days since Here are the steps I followed... hope it works for everyone...

1. Removed all secondary accounts, leaving only the primary.
2. Went into Applications->Gmail and removed data, then did Force Stop.
3. Restarted Gmail app.
4. Went into Applications->Contacts Storage and removed data.
5. Rebooted phone (power down, power up).
6. Added secondary accounts again in "accounts and sync"
7. you get two options... Sync Contacts and Sync Calendar... Gmail doesnt show up here... yet!
8. Go to Gmail app... it shows two accounts... the secondary account "not synced".
9. Tap on the secondary account -> Menu -> Refresh
10. Go to Menu -> Settings ->Accounts and sync -> secondary account Gmail is not selected for auto sync... Select it.
11. Sync all

So far it is working.

EDIT: Any change you make on your phone for the secondary email does not get reflected on the server... but the next time you receive an email, it is pushed to the phone and everything is synced again and the changes you had made earlier are reflected on the server.. So there still are problems... but at least I am getting my emails

Like many here I was having the same "no sync" problem with my non-primary gmail accounts. Here is how I fixed my issue. YMMV.......
NOTE: There might be a shorter way, but I will state exactly what I did verbatim.

1) Made sure my accounts were setup for sync.
(Setting-> Accounts & Sync)

2) Went to Settings->Applications->Manage Application->ALL->Gmail and Pressed the clear data button.

3) At this point I was getting Force Closed issues when I clicked on my GMAIL Unread count widget. Just go to the App Tray and load up the gmail app. It will will give you a message asking you to wait for mail to set up. I just cancelled out.

4) Rebooted

5) err message on my secondary gmail unread count widget went away.

6) Sent a test email to my secondary gmail account and 5 seconds later (literally...I timed it)...it popped up on my phone.

I have since received a handful of emails from various sources and things are looking good.

Hope this help.

adrianq,

Do the changes you make on the phone reflect back on the server automatically (in 5 sec) ? Or do you have to manually sync it to show up on the server or do you have to wait for a new email to be pushed to you phone at which time the changes you had made on the phone are synced to the server?

My push to phone email is now working but any changes I make to the email on the phone is not reflected to the server till a new email arrives (or manually sync it)

BTW... all this is only for the secondary email.. the primary email looks good.

My secondary GMAIL account just started working today on its own. I wonder if it was a GOOGLE issue in the back end because not only EVOs were having this issue, but who knows its working now and i didnt do anything!

im trying all these things. When I try to sync in the syn setup or the gmail app the phone just sits there. The little update icon is showing at the top but it has not gone away in minutes. After following the directions now me 2nd email does not seem to sync at all to the phone.

Just tried it and it seems to wait for a new email to have any phone changes reflected on the desktop.

I am actually ok with that since I what is most important to me is that I receive my email. So far so good on that front.
