Hello all, has anyone else had an issue with the Dinc connecting to towers far away from where your at? The main screen kept giving me the weather for two different towns which are about 10 and 15 miles from me. I thought that was odd. Then I grabbed that antenna app and it showed what the weather was showing, I was connected to towers far away from my place even though there is a tower less than two miles from me. I do suffer from poor call quality even when outside. Is there a setting to keep me from connecting to the towers that are too far away? I usually have zero bars showing on the phone and a signal that averages -90db to -100db. I have used the *228 weekly but that hasn't changed anything. Any ideas are welcome! Thanks.

I don't think the antenna app isn't very reliable for CDMA/VZW. The app shows that I connect to cell sites in places where there are no cell sites. And it doesn't see the sites that I'm actually connected to.
Look at your location settings and make sure "Use wireless networks" and "Use GPS satellites" are checked so that your phone will have more accurate GPS coordinates.
You wouldn't happen to be in an area where Alltel/VZW both provided service, would you? If so, VZW is still integrating networks which may be causing your signal strength to be low. If your not in a former Alltel service area there is no reason to *228 your phone weekly. As long as the SID (system ID) in your home market hasn't changed (which is very rare, the Alltel integration is the exception) the phone will automatically find new cell sites as they are turned on.

See I live in the Minneapolis South metro area. I would think that I would connect to a tower right where I live or at least the home screen weather would display the weather where I live, not a farm town that's 10 miles away and 15 miles away.
If I can find out where or if there is a verizon tower near me at least I can tell a vzw rep what's going on.

? And that that tower actually covers you? The cells that make up a tower are very directional, and if they're pointed away from you, your not going to get signal from them.

If the tower is in a public right of way where you can approach it, like in a park or other public property, you can look for information about the owner at the tower site.
Cell sites in my area (NE Ohio) are well marked, but that may not be the requirement everywhere.
You can try to map it out with this site. Apparently it is based on FCC records.

It's not very accurate. Philadelphia, PA is the perfect example. They only list 4 VZW towers within a 30 mile radius of the city.
That one's pretty accurate! It says in a 4 mile radius, there are not towers (which I knew) but there is one antenna, which is the network extender I installed a week ago. I know this because it's showing the marker right where our house is, and we live on a farm, so that's gotta be it. Thanks!
This is one of the issues that is keeping me from pulling the trigger and buying a dinc. I live in a formerly heavy alltell area. There 3 Alltell towers in my area. 1 Registered and 2 Not. I have an enV that is my second phone that gets miserable reception in my home. I can go away from my home several miles and get good reception. I am concerned that this will still be a problem with a dinc.
