FlashLight that uses Camera Flash

Sorry all, I have been tied up with work and haven't gotten the next version out yet. I am working on updates.

Yeah, I was unaware of the 24 hour refund until I read it in another thread later on today.

Looks like I'll be checking out this one as well and weighing it against MotoTorch LED. May the best app win.

Chet, anybody. Can you clue me in on the API call to turn on the LEDs. The documentation on Android 2.0 isn't very useful for this particular application.

space, read through this thread - ryan (aka eclipsed4utoo) made a mention on several of the methods used to get his ap fixed.

He mentioned a few methods that didn't work and asked Chet if he used the NotificationManager class. That's all I can see.

Ok, I got an update pushed out. There is now a WIDGET. At least my first cut at one... I will continue to improve it, but wanted to get something functional out first.

I am still working on a real fix to the auto-ScreenBrightness feature going nuts when the LEDs come on, but the new theme helps quite a bit.

Update v1.2
- Added Widget
- Workaround for Automatic Screen Brightness
(Full Screen and New Buttons)
- Fixed sliding keyboard bug

i also have mototorch but i bought chet's to support the first guy to get this working. thanx for all your hard work

BTW, don't know if you know this or not Chet, but I accidentally discovered this a couple of days ago.

Know how the DROID has a light sensor for the automatic screen brightness? Well, it actually has 2 - the one on the screen side, and ... the camera. At least, that is what my testing has led me to believe.

I made a post about it here - http://androidforums.com/how-tips/17407-motorola-droid-ultra-faq.html#post134958

My guess is that if you look to disable / ignore the camera then your screen will not be brightening near as much.

No update available for me on the market. I looked at the app and it shows the ver. 1.2 notes with just open/uninstall buttons, but I don't have the new version installed.

EDIT: Sorry, the update just came through. Thanks Chet!

The icon for the new widget is a little "off-center"(of the space it takes up) Can you center it please?

Yes, I was short on time and wanted to get the functionality out there. I will be cleaning it up an making it look better. I also plan on changing the icon when the light comes on.

By the way, how does everyone like the new color scheme? Does it help with the brightness at night?

I will work on dimming the screen, but it doesnt look like it is an option in the "official API". Of course turning the LED on wasn't either :D

I used the flashlight just a little while ago. I bought a new HDMI cable to hook my computer to the TV and I needed to see behind the TV. Granted I could have gone to the closet and grabbed a flashlight but the phone was right there! It worked perfectly. I like the changes you have made.

Not liking the red button/font. There could be much cooler buttons. Thanks for the app, first one I paid for :)

Yea, I understand... I was working on a short time-line. I will try to improve them in the future.

Chet - first off, thank you for hacking your way around and figuring this stuff out. Your app was the first I've ever paid for and the flashlight has already been a major help with getting into PC cases and whatnot.

If you want to PM me, I'd be happy to help out with any design you might need. I'm diving into the SDK this weekend and I'd love to help out with another project to get my feet wet. I'm a developer, but went to art school, so I can design some nice slick buttons if you want, and possibly even help with the brightness slider concept someone posted earlier this thread (if the code permits brightness adjustment anyway).

Drop me a PM if you want some help this weekend with anything!

Chet,

Great Ap somehow I just feel empowered carring around my phone now, knowing that at a moments notice I have the power of light at my command. Also thanks for the quick responsive updates to your program.

Jason

I combine this app with a an app on the market called "button shortcut" which allows you to reassign the camera button to launch an app. (I don't use the camera much). So now I have near instant access to the app without even looking at the screen (great when fumbling in the dark with hands full).

Now I'm just waiting for someone to figure out the full power LEDs, because that would be AMAZING when it is hacked :D

Although there is a free app, you guys don't have to be that quick to judge. Chet has put many hours of his personal time into learning how to code. I respect his effors and his speed to market. He deserves to make a few bucks on his lifetime investment. On day you will learn how hard one has to work to get to the point of developing applications.

I am happy to pay for this app, and to contribute to the android community.

Thanks Chet.
