Root Rooted Nexus without voiding warranty!

I need a couple of days of reading through the XDA thread and seeing accounts of its working before even considering it.

BUT

If this does work it looks like I might have found a new hobby with my N1 like I used to with my old iPhone jailbreak :)

He just closed it down.

I was reading the steps, about to copy/past them for later reference and I clicked away from the page. Came back and he edited his post and removed the steps:

Too much problem, will post again
mod please close this thread

If you already rooted then there's an un-editable file in the system which tells them that. Your warranty is void.

Can anyone confirm this?

I thought as long as your bootloader was still locked you could put stock back on and make it look like it never happened...

If you unlock the bootloader, an uneditable file is changed, and you loose you warranty.
If the method mentioned above works, and you manage to root your device WITHOUT unlocking the bootloader, no uneditable file shuld be changed, and you can restore it back to original, and noone would know...

Not sure if this has been stated elsewhere already but FRF91 "security patch" fixed this hole. It can still be accomplished but requires another workaround. I went from stock unlocked unrooted OTA FRF91 to locked but rooted custom FRF91 in about an hour.

Has anyone found another way to root without voiding the warranty?

I did this trick, and i havo no unlocked bootloader (the unlocked sign at startup..)

I had cyanogenmod on it, but after a while i reverted back to stock vodafone(european rom) my original backup.
Now i still have superuser if i have to send my phone is my warranty void?
How can i remove the superuser then?Since i didn't unlock bootloader!

Also, i cant install the 2.2.1 update everytime i get the message; i accept then it starts downloading, after which it does a reboot and then i come into the ehm boot menu dont know how its called? The one that you get when holding a certain key whilst booting...
and it does something and always after that says installation aborted why?
I also want it to be able to get 2.3 but if it wont even update to 2.2.1 :(

Just a note: this whole warranty voiding only applies to software issues. When you root, your voiding support if you brick your phone.

If your screen cracks or something, and your phone is rooted, your still covered.

(I'm in California, I don't know if the same warranty rules apply outside the USA [I'm rooted and I've sent my phone in twice for dust under the screen])
