Oh yes, I saw this thread and knew it was just right for me. LOL
This forum is simply way too uptight. I know it's only a matter of time before I'm banned, though more likely for calling smug & pompous members out on their own acts of indiscretion and hypocrisies.
Frisco, your command of the English language is fantastic. You are obviously well read, and you seem to enjoy flaunting it. (Here my good man, have a biscuit.) But to suggest that "swearing as a form of expression is probably the least effective in communicating one's thoughts on the subject at hand, while it succeeds in only communicating ones lack of command of the English language and/or willingness to intrude on the sensibilities of those to whom they're exposing their crass, vulgar mindset" is simply stunning to me, coming from someone of your apparently keen understanding of the English language. There is a huge range of emotion that can be conveyed with the use of "swear" words. Anger, frustration, cynicism, hostility, etc. For example, I use the taboo words to accentuate and or illustrate my frustration with idiots here. I'm cynical about it, which often requires a snide sarcasm that can often only be truly projected or articulated using swear words and calling people names.
The use of swear words may in fact be demonstrative of selfishness in some cases, but I have to disagree with your other assessments of those who use them. I will say that people who are well read that frequent forums with such a mixture of compositions as this often behave as if they are more intelligent than others by default, basing this silly assumption on how well other members write. Acts of misspelled words, poor grammar, lack of punctuation, mistypes and... swearing are no more indicative of selfishness or a lack of intellect as suggesting that they are is indicative of a genuine pompous ass.
