"Help, my Incredible was stolen" thread

That sux. Hope you find the people who stole it, Id be freaking fuming. I do have a question. How did you turn it on remotely?? You have peaked my interest.

Naw, when u report it stolen they don't necessarily disable the ESN. I've had kids in the city try to sell me Sprint Phones & VZW Phones for under $100 that HAD TO BE STOLEN. When a 16 year old kid has 4 phones from 3 different carriers for sale its like a red flag. But I did know someone who had VZW who bought a phone off the kid and activated it...worked fine.

See there is a problem with all these locator apps. Say you get the coordinates and you are at the location....chances are there are a bunch of people in the area each with phones in their pocket or purse. Sending a ringtone command won't be heard. imo, all these locator apps are hardly effective at retrieving stolen phones. They may have better use from a lost phone that is stationary and not stolen. These apps suck for stolen phones

You don't ACTUALLY know that that phone was 1. stolen
2. reported stolen

It's possible your friend lucked out, and got one that wasn't reported. Or somebody needed cash, quick (if you follow me).

And honestly, once your phone is stolen killing the ESN really doesn't do much for you. Maybe, especially if somebody just found it, they might return it once they realize it won't do them any good. But if someone stole it, they'd probably just throw it out, or sell it for quick cash. Mostly the benefit is just for deterrence.

+1, very true. Say the GPS leads you to like a shopping mall or an office building. What're you gonna do? Lol, You're gonna be walking around all bounty hunter style listening for that ringtone and ready to snap-neck of anyone in the vicinity. Say the sound comes from someone sitting in the midst of a bunch of old ladies, "*sigh*Alright Grannies..fork it over and I won't be snappin' any frail BONES up in here today"

If it is crowded, you wait and follow the signal.

After 10-20 mins, you probably have a better idea who it is.

If you call it and it is in a group of grannies, you let the cops go get it.

Even if the esn is blacklisted on one carrier that doesn't mean you can't activate on another such as metro pcs

Or what if it leads you to like some gang hideout where you just get destroyed upon arrival. lol. or robbed again

Btw man, I'm just joking. I know that you should just ask the cops to get it for you

Can you use Verizon phones like the Incredible on non-Verizon carriers?

This is why I keep the lock pattern enabled, even if someone gets my phone, there isn't a lot they can do with it.

Ok so this is more then likely a lost cause but worth a shot to ask around..

Last night we're all at this raging house party.. Everyone knows everyone, everyone is seen as "trustworthy"..

Still, I took the precaution to put my phone upstairs in the master while I charged it..

Its getting late, and I wanted to know what time it was.. went to get my phone.. its no longer on the charger.

Since GPS is disabled, "Where's my Droid?" app is unable to send me a pinpoint on the map.. and I had been meaning to getting Lookout (but obviously didn't)..

I went to VZW about 20 minutes ago and not really satisfied with the run-around I received.. I understand if VZW can't do anything about it, but please don't tell me "What kind of company would we be if we spent all our time tracking down phones?" when I just lost my expensive device. Shit, its an asset at this point.

All I want to know is, is it within VZW's capabilities given my permission to send a signal to my phone to enable its GPS? Not asking them to track it down, I have a few police friends who are already nipping at the chance to do it for me - I just need to tell them where to go.

The manager at the VZW finished his "I'll smile while I'm rude to your face" routine and passed me Asurion's brochure.. Yes, I've got insurance but if I can get this phone back w/o paying the $89 deductible and losing all that sensitive data.. then that'd be freaking awesome.

Otherwise I'll just bite the bullet.. Oh yeah, and even when I do have to make this claim, does anyone honestly think Asurion has Incredibles? And to top it off, am I going to get one with the "new" screen? aka lacking said AMOLED..

ffs.. thanks in advance, even if its your condolences..

What makes it worse is I know whoever took it will never get past the 8-pattern lock that I have enabled. So why **** take it!?

First off if you report it stolen and give the case number to VZW they will lock the ESM number on the phone. So if anyone try to activate it on it will come up as stolen in there data base. So I recommend doing that right away. Second there is no way that VZW will be able to push a code or file to turn on the phone.( or this is what I was told when my storm was stolen.) Third there are no lcd Droid incredible out there so you will get a AMOLED Droid if you go the insurance route. I can't tell you if you will get a refurbished or new. You will have to check once they send it.

sorry to hear that about your phone. It sucks when people do that kind of shit... I hope I have answered your questions and ill be happy to answer any more you got.

Thank you much sir, pretty much what I expected to hear but hearing from another source is always nice.

and ++ to the AMOLED..

I use to work for VZW and a locked esm number can't be activated period. if the phone was stolen and you give VZW the case number it will come up stolen in the data base and the local police can be called if the VZW employee feels like it. if you take it to metro and it has not been flashed before you take it to there tech it will still come up on a black list.
