[How-To] Force the Official Android 2.2 Froyo Update for the Motrola Droid (FRG01B | Update 1 of 2)

Just wanted to say that I lost patience waiting on the OTA yesterday - downloaded and installed as directed here and it worked great. Phone was slow for about thirty minutes, then caught up and working great!

No factory reset or any of that other stuff. Wish I would have done this a week or two ago. 2.2 is awesome.

Is it just me, or does anyone else have disdain for the new stock home launcher?

It's just you. I will admit, however, that at times it takes a few seconds to repopulate the icons and widgets. I'm guessing that this is an issue with the limited RAM on the Droid, but I'm hoping that a fix is forthcoming.

Hey Trident, i followed every step carefully to d/l Froyo on my phone, the computer way. But during the installation process, the d/l bar fills up a little and then says "Installation Aborted", can you please help me?? i can't seem to find what the problem. i even put the zip folder "update" and just left it in the SDcard, and that didn't work. i also tried renaming the zip folder to "update.zip" and that still didn't work. please Trident, i've been wanting Froyo for too long haha, but my phone does not seem to cooperate with me. Thank You for your time :), oh yeah and also the battery pull did not help me either.

You have to make sure that the update.zip is on the root of your SD card. While in Astro file manager, press the home button at the top of the screen, that's where it has to be. If you are running any thing else other than stock 2.1 this update will fail. If you have done everything else correct and still get the error message, it may be a bad download. Try re downloading and starting over.

NOTE: When first applied, this update would not allow me a mobile connection. Even the back door 911 method to force network recognition failed. Battery removal and factory & cache resets didn't fix it. After digging in I found that it wasn't even reading the MEID, phone number et al.

I figured I'd have to roll back but I applied the update from the card again first and everything was fine after that... Now I just need to get all my apps back on and setup my email accounts et al.

I wish I would have reapplied the update before trying the factory reset. Maybe this will save someone the same pain..

Hey also on the step from Trident's instructions where you need to hold the Volume Up button and the camera button, i don't really need to do that step because my phone goes to right to System Recovery when i hold X and turn it on. Maybe that could be the problem?? Thanks for the help :):)

I'm glad that you originally included that you are running SPRecovery, that actually is more than likely your problem. To be able to apply this, you need stock recovery, if your rooted, try installing the rooted version of this Rom. Or use Rsd lite, go back to stock 2.1 and retry this.

Here is the link to Petes download site,

download FRG01B deodexed. Then follow the steps here.

yeah, for some reason it still is not working, during the installation process, on the Log, after it says, Verifying Status or something, the installation Aborts, even after i did everything you said. Is there any other common found problems that you know of?

I was tired of waiting for the OTA so I did the manual update today.

It was easy, pain free and works beautifully. SO many thanks to everyone that made the manual and helped along the way!

so what is the 2nd 2.2 update going to contain? anyone know?

I'm not even sure that there is a second update. That quote from the Verizon business document could just imply that users will need to download Flash from the Market when it becomes available. I think that everyone is reading into it what they want it to indicate. It is far from definitive.

i hope this wasnt already asked (lots of pages to try and view on this phone): i updated 2.2 without incident. works pretty good so far. but seems flash isnt available yet? is this correct or am i just stupid? thanks...

It's is currently in beta and not on the Android Market. It's rumored that it will be available on the Market on the 18th. But nothing I've read has that set in stone.

I just got the update ota at 3:23 am eastern.

So far so good. Getting a little lag as I type this on my droid. But I think pulling tbhe battery might do me some good in that department. Also battery use shows the android system using 24% of the battery... is that high?
