[How-To] Force the Official Android 2.2 Froyo Update for the Motrola Droid (FRG01B | Update 1 of 2)

I ran linpack and quadrant on my wife's stock Droid and then on my forced Froyo Droid: the difference in scores is dramatic, so I am thinking the update in Tridents thread and in johnlgalt's thread both upclock the the CPU.

Just ran Quadrant on my FRG01B phone after my "factory reset" this afternoon. I now get consistent scores of ~900, vs ~825 before the reset. I have no idea why, maybe data fragmentation? I'm not complaining, though.

Quadrant says my CPU is running at 600MhZ of a possible 800MhZ -- it would sure be nice if we could get the full CPU speed without having to root the phone...

So, Just curious. How bad would it be to copy the files from frg22 directly to my droid's internal storage? Linda manager allows you to access your system files. there are only 3 files in frg22 as opposed to several in frg10b.

After discovering that, I decided to combine the install files and repackage the zip. There is a system folder, a recovery folder, and a new boot.img (frg10b calls it bp.img), so most of the files were left intact. I got the same "Signature verification error" that I've been getting for the past 2 days with frg22. I'm not sure it wont work though. I'm assuming it wont let me reapply an update I already installed.

Would anyone with 2.1 still installed be willing to gin eau pig? lol I would if I could. Please reply to this. I know I'm not the only crazy person here. Someone else must have had the same idea. Thanks

I have installed the update and it is working fine (although the screen seems to not be as sensitive and the screen is a bit slower). But my question is, when I put it in the dock after a while it goes to some screensaver that is just the time moving around the screen. Before when I docked it the screen stayed on the "dock" screen. Is there any way to fix it to where it stays on the dock screen?

I was having the same issues.. also i enabled the sound for docking. it would go crazy sometimes. I look for a fix but i think it's the bugs Verizon and Motorola have to fix. So i went down to 2.1 again, i will wait till the Final OTA version of Froyo 2.2 comes out.

But if any one knows a fix let me know. :D

Thank you!

I just installed this yesterday and so far only 1 problem. I was not able to activate the phone via the operator. I had to call support and they walked me through setting up the phone with the mid and such...

so far okay.

I installed FRG01b using the "Google link" at the beginning of this thread. Worked fine, after some initial slowness. Then I came back and saw all the hoopla about FRG22 and was curious. I was not able to make it install (signature verification error). Then I decided to do a factory reset after seeing the advice in here to do so, in the hopes I'd finally see a performance boost.

My advice is NOT to do this *unless* you are having problems with the forced 2.2 download (which I really wasn't). Even if you have everything backed up (as I did), it still takes a REALLY long time to recover from a factory reset, especially if you have a lot of apps installed ("cookies" or whatever the equivalent is in Android are not saved, so you have re-enter passwords, etc., for apps that require them, plus restoring from a good backup, while effective, takes a while itself).

I did this reset because I was really hoping to see the much-hyped performance boost that 2.2 is supposed to achieve. Still not seeing it. Other than cosmetic changes and a few new features, my phone seems exactly the same as before the forced update (which is relatively good news given the many problems some have reported).

Bottom line -- weigh the frustration you're having with your phone now, if any, with time it will take to get your phone all back the way you like it after a reset.

The FRG01B forced update seems to have fixed a very annoying problem I had on 2.1, the inability to hang up an outgoing call that is answered by voice mail. No problems hanging up at all since the update, and answering calls is working better as well.

Also discovered my Bluetooth headset (Jabra BT530) needs the action key held until it beeps a second time to activate voice dialing. Works great now.

What's the latest froyo update if tbere is one,and would it be better to just wait until it is put out?thanks

This is the latest update. Verizon is still pushing it out OTA to all users who don't have it yet. I think they're just waiting until everyone has FRG01B before pushing out a smaller FRG22 to fix the bugs.

Just performed a factory reset after being at FRG01B (used Trident's excellent instructions for this) for about a week. Was seeing the issues with delays and Wifi seemed to be spotty at best.

I was under the impression that I would not lose my applications (they'd re-download). It's been almost 2-3 hours since I did the reset and yet I haven't seen the applications. Do I have to go find everything again and redownload?

Check what you have selected on the "Privacy" settings page. If you have "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore" selected then you should get (almost) all your apps reloaded automatically. If you just had "Back up my data" selected I think a manual sync will get them sent down to your phone, but I have not done this, personally. If you didn't have either of them selected, then, yes, you'll have to reload manually. Sorry.

I thought I had a custom ROM installed, but I guess not because this update seemed to install fine. I thought 2.2 came with Adobe Flash installed, but it's not. Does anybody know how I can install it? Or, do I still have to wait? Does anybody know if PdaNet will work with this version? Thanks for your help and time!

PdaNet is working perfectly for me on 2.2 (FRG01B). I'm running it through a Windows 7 laptop.

Does a Factory Reset also wipe out your contacts and other info as well?

I don't wanna do it if I don't have to because I know I will have lost alot of the numbers.

anyone having trouble with this download needs to wait for ota update. It worked for me without even using pc.I did it using 3g on my droid everything works great.thanks

There are many posts about how to do the factory resets... If you select "Back up my data" and "Automatic Restore" on the "Privacy" settings page, you will get all your contacts back as soon as you log back into Google... The same goes for virtually all of your apps, your browser favorites, etc., but not for things like app logins and other locally saved data. Your SD card is not touched.

I gotta question about the factory reset as well...

On the main page it says there is a problem with 2.1 and doing a factory reset...namely completely borking your Wifi/3G.

Does this stop if you upgrade to 2.2 and then try doing the reset?
