Droid X vs Samsung Galaxy S

At this point, I don't think a difference of 1-2 seconds in opening up a webpage or a half second lag in opening up applications will translate to anything being a "better" phone.

Go with what you like. I can do pretty much the same thing on a BB curve with my regular usage on a Droid X. Calls, texts, checking news and facebook (I use the mobile site anyway...the touch site has so much less capability), looking up yahoo sports and espnmobile, the occasional wikipedia, quick snapshots, email...

My productivity isn't going to change because I have a phone that can stream a song faster.

lol! Yeah I totally agree. I lied a bit...I remember the first few days I had my DX at work...I was supposed to be writing code but I was actually trolling the "What do your DX Screens look like" forum to pilfer custom docks and wallpapers, as well as widget/app suggestions.

God Bless "Spaces" on the mac. I'm always 2 swipes away from hiding my uselessness to society.

To be honest, I love my Droid X. I am perfectly at peace with this phone. I am not having any problems with it at all. My 30 day period won't be up until the 11th of September. If the Fascinate comes out within that period, I will go try it out at a Verizon store. If I fall in love with it, I will swap my Droid X out for it. If it doesn't come out within that 30 day period, I'll keep my Droid X. No biggie.

I am by no means a guru but I figured since I have owned both I would throw my two cents in.

If you want to play 3d games and nothing else on your android phone I would pick up a captivate. They run games a little faster, the fps gains are quiet a bit noticable. But does that really help normal 2d functions...

If you want a better phone that has better call quality, better buttons that are actually tactile instead of just touch sensitive, dedicated camera button, hdmi out, top lock, flash on your camera, 4.3 vs 4.0, a bettter manufacture, a better company behind your phone, a more reliable network and finally a working GPS that does not require some OTA samsung update that may or may not come out.

I returned mine for the GPS failure. It may not make or break it for others but, the inability to do simple things like foursquare, wardrive, local searches, directions, good map searches. You know things that you expect from a smart phone then by all means get a captivate. The size is more normal the droid x is a little larger.

Both are easy to root. Captivate may have roms before the droid x do to efuse but honestly root is all i really wanted to cut the bloat ware. We all know ATT comes with miles of bloatware.

My two cents dont care if it only helps 1 person. I am much happier with my x

APPLE would NEVER go after SAMSUNG...the reason is something that most people did not know...SAMSUNG is the one who made all the CPU's for all the iphones till now...SASMUNG recently partnered with INTRISITY to design the Hummingbird CPU for the Galaxy S and when APPLE found out how fast that setup was, well, they couldn't beat it so what did they do?

They BOUGHT OUT INTRISITY...LOL....

These are FACTS..do some research and you will see.

While what you said is true, it doesn't change the fact that the galaxy s look like a knock off iPhone. You can have the same processor but at least change the outside and UI.

As a counter, I've owned both as well and went with the Vibrant..

I'm not really sure what "better call quality" means, unless it was an issue with AT&T. For me the Vibrant has been better for calls simply because I don't have to say "What? I missed that..." Anytime I was talking on the phone in a less than quite enviroment. I'd say the X's volume issue is just as significant a problem as the Galaxies GPS issue. Both are supposed to be fixed around the same time and seem to affect users in varying degrees.

I had an original Droid before the X or the Vibrant, I was used to capacitive buttons. Having used both now, I can honestly say I don't prefer one over the other so long as whatever it is actually works, which they seem to do on both.

I didn't miss the size as much as I thought I would, as a bonus the Vibrant is more one hand friendly (important to me), and I felt the improvement in the screens contrast, color saturation and bright sun performance made me miss it even less. I do wish both had an increase in resolution tho.

The galaxies by the way have both composite out which mirrors the display on the phone as well as HDMI out via a special USB cable. I do wish there was a dedicated camera button on the Galaxies, as well as a flash as it makes a great flashlight but in practice sucks at what it was actually intended for.

Finally, My wife and I both have Vibrant's and neither of us have had an issue when using the GPS. We have both used it in the car as well as with MyTracks while biking. As for whether it will come or will fix the problem, I've seen youtube videos of a fix for the Captivate that is in testing that certainly seems to fix the issue. Not sure why they would put out a press release saying a fix was coming and clearly be working on a fix if they have no intention of ever releasing it.

Better by the way is very subjective, I think Samsung and Motorola both are very good companies in general that have had faults in their past. I'm willing to wait and see which is what I would have to do with either phone.

Overall, I've been happier with the Vibrant but enjoyed the X as well. Glad you found the right fit for you as well. :D

First let me say the fascinate has a flash on the camera so right there is something you should have checked into before you posted

Contrast, the edge definitely goes to the Galaxy S Super AMOLED displays. Color saturation, if you mean having more as in oversaturation then yes, the AMOLED and Super AMOLED displays also beat down just about anything else. However, if you mean having accurate color rendition then the advantage definitely goes to the Droid X.

The Super AMOLED displays blow away anything else in contrast ratio but do not fair as well in many other comparisons such as color rendition, clarity and resolution. It's one of those situations where impressive does not necessarily mean accurate or correct, so you just have to decide what is more important to you.

Samsung is just like any manufacturers trying to compete and try to come up with ways to improve a product that has been already made such as an Apple iPhone. Don't need to hate..

i have recently tested out both phones before buying mine the camera on the droid x is 8mp and the vibrant is 5mp but the pictures look better on the vibrant also the browser speed is a lot better on the vibrant the droid x is just slightly slower most people dont like touch wiz but you get use to it fairly fast theres a reason i picked the vibrant.

Are you saying that pictures taken with the Vibrant look better on the Vibrant?

One common issue with many 'camera' comparisons is that they compare how pictures look on the phones. That involves both the camera and the display. I believe it is much better to remove or fix as many variables as possible. For example, compare cameras by taking as close to identical pictures as possible taken on each phone and comparing them side-by-side on a calibrated monitor. To make it even more fair, the phones should either have the default settings or the same amount of effort and expertise invested in optimizing the settings. Similar for displays, it seems to make sense to compare a graphic displayed on the phones to the same graphic displayed on a calibrated monitor. An approach like this appears to isolate the camera from the display and allows both subjective and more objective comparisons.

I really wish the Fascinate was coming out sooner. I am hoping that it comes out during the 30 day trial I have with the Droid X. But most reports are saying that it won't be out until Late September/Early October.

i think verizon is holding off for it to be released with 2.2 and also a gps fix.

I dont think its cuz its an X forum.

There are differences noticed. The shadows is one. The sharper texts on the sign is one. The borderline pink colors on the sign on the Samsung screen vs. red/burgundy on the X is one. Go look at a No Parking street sign and see which screen shows it more accurately.

It could be at different times. Normally when u do comparison shots its done at the same time. I dont know...

They will be 2 great phones. But there are differences I think ppl can see. I thought Super Amoled was supposed to be this great screen everyone would want to have. I dont see it. Both screens have their plus and minuses. If its the Pentile Matrix causing the differences, Samsung needs to rethink that IMO.

Like when using an HDTV and HD cable, dont u look at the HD channels for the sharper picture?

I think I will just have to agree to disagree with some of yall about the screens....lol
Yea I know this is old but thought this was really funny so I had to respond: try asking on a Samsung Vibrant forum which is the better phone. What? Majority is saying Samsung? I don't know why they'll do that.

Second...don't see it through a video. Judge it when it comes out, which it is now out. I see a difference, don't know about you. Try under the sunlight for a more noticeable difference.

My main beef is the stall issue, which is annoying because Samsung should be the ones fixing it, not me. On the other hand, it is fixable, and once it is fixed (via xda), I believe Samsung Galaxy series can attain the highest score. I believe I saw a 1800 score on Quadrant. Droid X is a 1250, saw it with my own eyes on a friend's Droid X, most likely due to the dedicated GPU.

http://androidforums.com/samsung-vibrant/154787-get-lag-fix-apk.html

I take that back, someone scored a 2100 on their Samsung Vibrant. Good lucks getting that score.

I do think Droid X is a great phone, though. Its quite an amazing gadget itself.

Except Samsung Vibrant Froyo haven't came out yet. Give it a month when the firmware gets released before you declare victory.

If both are same Android version, 2.1, Samsung wins out.

Wait for Froyo for both to come out before making a premature win declaration for the Froyo OS. If Droid X does score higher when Froyo is also available for Samsung Galaxy, then Droid X wins, not much point sugar-coating it then.

Counters are good. To each there own IMO. I just know when I was looking for a phone each persons opinion influenced me slightly. As to things to notice when I tested both phones. I was just beyond frustrated with things at ATT and the fallshorts of the the captivate. It got me to make the leap from BB to Android so something has to be said there. Silly Torch just came out. Wish I was made of money.

But i told my self if I ordered the X regardless I am staying with it.

When it comes to phones, I will stay away from Samsung. Motorola has produced an amazing phone in the X and it's the best phone there is right now. Don't have to worry about GPS errors, call quality, or support like you do with Samsung.

Take your Quadrant scores any day, I will take my phone in the real world---and you can enjoy Quake better than me. Hooray!

While I was t-mobile today having my gf's blackberry looked at. I played around with the galaxy. I was glad I went with the droid x. The back of the casing felt too thin and cheap plasticish.

If it was not for the fact that the front screen was responding, I would have assumed it was a non-functional demo phone. it seriously felt like a kids toy. Light as a feather, sure, but it feels like this phone would snap in half over the smallest things. Protective casing is a must for this.

Best is subjective -- ask iPhone owners which phone they think is best.

Benchmarking is not.

I don't think anyone have to be too concern about Samsung support on this one. I *think* they're going to release the Galaxy in 130+ countries. They have a lot riding on this one.

You have seen the article stating Quadrant is essentially useless as a benchmark now? It's fun to get high numbers, but that's about it. Search Droid-Life or something.
In the real world my phone is essentially instantaneous in everything---and I know you can't improve upon that. Why are you trolling here?
