4g in New York City first time impression

So I just joined the forum, I'm thinking about making the switch from the iPhone to the EVO. My girlfriend (family plan) is all nervous because she thinks there will be no difference between the two. Can anybody vouch for the quality of 3G in Manhattan? I'm not concerned with 4G as I know this will eventually roll out. Thanks.
 
I have yet to have a problem with any of my Sprint phones (for the last few years) anywhere in Manhattan. No drop calls, strong signal.
Only place that didn't have a signal is in the subways. And they recently said they (the MTA) are fixing that.

I had a lot of trouble getting signal in Manhattan with ATT. Switched to Sprint in June and haven't dropped a call or data connection since. Used in Manhattan for about 20 hours over 4 days with not one incident.

Best part is that I spent part of my time with people from VZW and ATT, and they had to eat crow for saying I'd regret moving to Sprint. No one could hold signal in the subway once past the first set of stairs.

Did I eat crow? Not even close. They were so jealous of my Evo they couldn't stand it, and they almost puked when they found out how much data I consume without worry.
 
I spent the day in 2 different parts of the city (Kew Gardens and Roosevelt Island) and have had 4G all day.

Been getting download speeds from speedtest.net between 4.5 mbps and 6.5 mbps.

Upload speeds have varied much more between 0.2 mbps to 1.25 mbps.
 
I've been getting 4g in a few places for about a week now. I have my phone set to notify me of.it. it doesn't always stay though, even in the same place. I'm staying on the Upper East Side and at the apartment I had 4g the other night but now its back to 3g. I'm waiting for full 4g to then on my mobile hotspot. I'm planning to run my laptop off it.

Today (or is it yesterday?) I stayed pretty consistently above 6 mbps for dl's but still getting a ton of variance on my upload speeds (anything from .02 - 1.0 mbps). I'm just wondering if that's much of an issue if I don't really do any actual uploading. I mean for sending passwords and clicking links, will it really hang things up significantly? I have absolutely no clue about this stuff, and I don't know if what I described is even how things actually work, so please don't flame me for ignorance!! :D

I've been getting a strong 4G signal around Canarsie and a few other parts of Brooklyn as well as downtown manhattan where I work. Haven't done any speed tests but definitely notice a increase in web speed and Youtube plays smoothly
 
i had heard people were getting 4G at citi field and i work around the block in flushing but im not getting anything... hmmm

I get it consistently all over Queens. I have not specifically been to Citi Field or Flushing, though. My speedtests are 2-3 times faster in queens than anything I've gotten in Manhattan.

It is just sick fast when yer updating 10+ apps. Can't wait til it's fully live.

I got it for like a second driving home yesterday but lost it before I could test it, at least it is closer to being fully functional
 
I'm getting 4G in Brooklyn... I got 5MB down and 1MB up on the F train near 4th avenue.... NY times updated all the articles almost immediately, it was great!

So I moved a week ago to another area in NYC that has no/negligible 4G. It was fun while it lasted :(

I do get it near my job (but not in my office) with typical upload of 3 mbps.
 
It might be my building too, I need to try from outside to see if the signal gets any bars, I'm close to the Whitestone movie theater, anyone got it near there?

Did anyone noticed that with the 4G signal being so strong lately and constantly on that the battery doesn't drain as fast as it used to when it was searching for a signal.

Interesting observation. I'll have to keep an eye on it next time.
 
SO WTF?

Sprint officially announces 4G in NYC yet I'm still unable to receive a 4G signal!

Sort it out!
