Root New to Android - Negatives of Rooting?

Hi all,

Just wondering what I can expect to lose or notice that's different after rooting my wife's (and my, on Tuesday) Samsung Vibrant. I've been reading lots of threads, and some people have reported apps not working, things different, etc. The only thing I'm looking to apply right now is the lag fix, since the GPS will supposedly be fixed in next months Frodo 2.2.

Pretty much the only thing you might lose is tech support from T-Mo and/or Samsung.

General rule of thumb, though, is that if you DO have to send the phone back in, flash it back to non-rooted, official firmware.... Just in case ;->

really there is no negatives of rooting, if u lose support from tmo and samsung then u have a whole community of experienced android users that will be more then happy to help you out. also check out the xda developers site they are really helpful and taught me mostly everything i know now

Hold on a minute here, you're assuming that tmo and samsung have support in the first place I come from an extensive BlackBerry history (well enough known on Crackberry to merit free merchandise from Seidio, BestSkinsEver, among other retailers in exchange for informative and un-biased reviews), and one of the most important things I've learned in the past five years is that tmo and device vendor support is about as credible as asking a Mac fanboy if Snow Leopard is better than Windows 7

Forums are my best friends, and my greatest source of information. Hence, my involvement on this forum before even having the device myself
