Official 4G/WiMAX Coverage Areas

I'm currently heading from Silver Spring, MD to Michigan using only my Evo for navigation. I'll post my experience tomorrow after I get there. I'm a little worried about how hot the phone and battery will get, but we'll see how it goes.

Also, I was in D.C. the other day and got almost full 4g coverage. Did a speedtest and was only pulling 3 megabits down though. Anyone else have luck in the D.C area?

cool.. cant wait to hear how it goes...

i would think it is ok.. but for dead cell areas.. or roaming areas with slower data..

heat wise.. dont leave it in on the dash with the sun constantly on it. Once the heat reaches a particular temp, the cell will stop charging and might even shut down.

I drive back home to Michigan all the time and i think the only dead spots there are, are on the PA turnpike which you stay on for like 160 miles anyway. No 4G 30 miles outside of Detroit.

my buddy said he heard from some clown that 4G is available on the inside of 270....can anybody report on this at all?

What's up with 4G in our area. I live in Richmond and around where I live I get 1 bar and speeds fluctuate from 1mbps to 3 mbps. When I travel to my jiu-jitsu class 10 miles away I get full bars and the speeds are basically the same. Seems like there's a 4mbps cap because it has yet to break 4.

There's 4G in Downtown San Jose. I was having lunch with my GF at Tres Gringos. Did a speedtest and got 10mb down at one point, then averaged down to 8mb.

I can validate this. I was also in downtown SJ and was able to reach 9.5 - 10mb down. I was near the Adobe San Jose building

My buddy and I had a night out tonight and had some drinks and brought our macbooks and evos out and picked up signal all through clearwater, tampa and st pete. i was getting decent numbers. Hopefully ill get it at my house soon.

Funny to see the irvine people here... i'm near culver and irvine blvd.

Irvine here as well, no 4G off of Culver and Barranca, but I work at the Deloitte Building on the 17th Floor directly across the street from South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa where people are reporting 4G. I'll post my scan results tomorrow from the top of my building and see what I can get.

Read elsewhere that people were getting a signal downtown. I went to investigate and picked it up going down broad street from the 71 ramp to COSI. I'm excited!!!

I hate you all. Denver has been on the list since day 1 and still nothing... I see wimax towers every quarter mile but nothing except one tower downtown is active.

Hmmm, I'm downtown now where I work right in the Arena District....trying now. Standby

Edit: Nothing here in the District.

I live in Henrico and the fastest speed I recorded was over in Short Pump. I got 6 down and 3 up. I usually get 3 -4 down and 2 up.

Was in downtown Rahway last Friday. I got 1 bar of 4G signal inside a restaurant, but it was a solid signal. Didn't have time to do a speed test, but I did stream LLWS without any delay in voice or audio and surf the web as a demo with someone who's on VZW. He was shocked at the Evo's screen size and clarity, Sprint TV (ESPN), and that I wasn't concerned about the data charge from live streaming.

Even better - I accidentally left on GoogleNav in the background and it continued to make announcements. I told him that was true multi-tasking at work. He frowned at his new on-contract BB.

I kind of felt bad for him. Until he said he hopes VZW gets iPhone! I told him that was going to really jam their network if they do get it.

On my Evo, the highest number of bars (concentric rings) that one can get is 3 .....not 5. I was down in Silverspring/Wheaton, MD (Briggs Chaney Road along Rt. 29 and Georgia Ave and Viers Mill Road in Wheaton) and I saw 3 rings of signal strength (like I see around Baltimore.....just not my house :( ). It seems that 2 rings gives me 3-7 mbps down and 500-950 kbps up). Three rings of signal strength gives 5-10 mbps down and 700-950kbps and rarely 1mbps up. I think the 10 fold compares to the fastest 4G compared to the slowest 3G (so up to 10 fold faster is how it is worded).

Its Official!!

Sprint 4G WiMAX network in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Kansas City

I just turned on my 4G Antenna on my EVo at my job and I have a full 5 bar 4G signal:D

I did the speed test and came in at 3.6 down... Thats a far cry from "10x faster than 3G" but i definitely noticed.

Anyone in DC get anythin faster than 3.6 meg download??

Also... I definitely noticed a faster battery drain even in sleep mode
