No offense but that report of Bush giving up golf is just plain b.s., and has been debunked many times in many places.

I assure you, mpw, that the report says no such thing. Quite the opposite, it seems to me. I'd challenge the naysayers to read the actual document, instead of relying on poorly constructed opinion pieces, if they're trying to stake out a position in this discussion.

I'm not picking sides in this debate, but I do feel the need to correct a few facts you are playing fast and lose with.

#1. President Bush officially went on more vacation and spend a longer period of time officially on vacation than any president in US history. Granted one has to ask, is a president ever really on vacation, since the office follows him everywhere he goes, but this is what it is.

#2 the current first lady went on a trip to spain with one of her daughters, 2 friends and four of their daughters. That is a total of 8 people not 40. She paid for her own stay and local travel, though the spanish government did pay for some of her security and the US did pay for her use of AF2 and her permanently assigned security. The two friends and their 4 children flew commercial flights and paid their own travel expenses and hotel stay. The US incurred no expense in any shopping. Have any opinion you want about whether the US first lady is entitled to take AF2 to go on vacation, but at least report it accurately. It should be mentioned that the use of planes from this particular fleet is a privilege that the president, vice president and their spouses have had since the fleet has existed, and all have used it at one time or another for personal use. Again like with the vacation issue one has to question when is a president or a first lady ever really on vacation, since trips like these are also filled with official events.

Maybe 40 was the total for all staff and security who traveled who I presume also needed to be housed and fed, but that would not be 40 vacationers. still I'm only speculating on this last bit.

Anyhow, Just thought I'd take the rhetoric out of the argument and present the facts as they are so we can base the argument on those.

2. Upping the ante in Afghanistan
3. Agreeing to help bail out "Wall Street."

BobPaul, have you read the report? Can you tell me what group was "torn down" by it, and what sections led you to that conclusion?

WAdude, can you point out the sections where Americans are classified as "bad, evil, and racist?"

IOWA, given that the report makes mention of some of the current administration's accomplishments (the health care bill, the Matthew Shepard hate crimes bill, Ledbetter fair pay bill) and given that the report itself could be considered an accomplishment in and of itself, how have you come to the conclusion that this administration has not accomplished anything?
 
The US does not need to report to the UN and heres what I mean where the report says Americans (whites, because nowhere does it say whites are being racially profiled) are "evil", "bad", and "racist", now dont go looking for those words on the report, but please, you know that is basically what they are saying.

"We are not satisfied with a situation where the unemployment rate for African Americans is 15.8%, for Hispanics 12.4%, and for whites 8.8%, as it was in February 2010. We are not satisfied that a person with disabilities is only one fourth as likely to be employed as a person without disabilities. We are not satisfied when fewer than half of African-American and Hispanic families own homes while three quarters of white families do. We are not satisfied that whites are twice as likely as Native Americans to have a college degree "


This type of shit like this makes me sick, when politicians, that cant be real, make stuff like this. And I am willing to accept there is some racial profiling and some racism in the US, but the numbers produced in this statement in the report are not because of racism (maybe .2% because of racism). Being hispanic, I know that these numbers are because there are people in this country who dont want to do shit and all want to be Alex Rodriguez or Micheal Jordan. All rich in an instant, but dont want to do the hard and effort putting steps in between to get there. As in they do not want to work for it. And all of their lives they go on ratting about how the white man put them down, when really, they put themselves down. The great thing is there are some succesful blacks, and hispanics who are real and all say the same thing. Unfortunetly, politicians go on feeding bullshit like this, fueling the fire that the white man puts minorities down. If they stopped and started being real, those numbers up there in that statement would be much lower.


If the US wants to fix its problems, then we need to focus on ourselves for a while, and stop trying to come up with reports like these telling the world to judge us, we need to judge ourselves.

And you know this because you are some sort of social scientist, or mathematician, or you read it in the bible?
 
So...the unemployment figures are untrue, or misrepresent reality because blacks and Hispanics are basically lazy? Am I reading that right?
