What's more helpful is to not mislead people into thinking the ruu is any different than the update.zip which your posts insinuate. Do you for some reason think they're different?

The RUU!?? That's old news playa. Downgrade back to 2.1, and do the update.zip that was pulled from the incoming OTA. It's official. Don't even play with the RUU

This is one of the things I've been debating about. I've always been a fan of doing clean installs when upgrading an OS for any hardware. My questions is, and I'm sorry if this is covered elsewhere, can I still achieve root doing the RUU install? I haven't done any ROM flashes so I haven't read up on the process in much detail
