The little things...(2.2 Update addons/changes)

When in camera mode if you turn your phone landscape or portrait the icons (zoom, flash and gallery) rotate as well.

does everyone else still have the HTC Calendar widget? Mine is gone now...i did the update.zip, not ruu or ota.

Edit: not that i used them, but there were some add'l photo widgets that are now gone too.

I did a search and nothing came up for Dock so I'm not sure if its mentioned but here goes.

I did the RUU and so I had to set up my phone to my preference again. In looking to set up widgets and other stuff I looked at the short cut options which comes up after doing a long press on a blank area of the screen. I know the regular settings menu changed but when you go to settings shortcuts and press that icon another settings listing appears for you to set as shortcuts, one of the options towards the bottom is Dock Settings.

If I set it as a shortcut and click that icon from the screen its on it brings up a menu and states phone not docked.

Not much more to say about it except that this may give us hope that HTC may still be planning to roll out a dock maybe.

Sorry if this has been covered in another thread - but all I have found in my searching are threads on either if people got their Froyo updates, or about rooting in Froyo.

I am just looking for a detailed description of everything that is new or changed in Froyo. All I see for descriptions always ends with "and many more updates". Its those many more updates I am trying to learn about.

Thanks in advance.

Glenn

Does pressing the menu button still unlock the screen? Mine doesn't seem to anymore unless I have to change something.

Yeah, same here. I used to like that too, bit of a bummer they took that away.

So I notice there's a "My Verizon" app to check your phone usage etc. Every time I launch it I get a message saying "Your mobile number could not be validated" on the splash screen, but the next relaunch of the app and it works fine. This is no big deal by any means, but I just wondered if other people noticed the same thing.

Overall this seems a fairly positive update, but I'm not keen on all the extra apps Verizon felt the need to add which can't be uninstalled unless you're rooted. Things don't necessarily seem snappier than 2.1 in general so far, but I've not really used the phone enough yet to really expand on that.

I was planning on purchasing the full version of either EasyTether or PDAnet for full tethering capabilities, but have a question before I pull the trigger --

Can anyone with the official 2.2/froyo OTA update conclusively confirm or deny that these apps still work?

I'd really like an answer from someone that either received the OTA pushed to their phone, or manually installed the most recent "leaked" update to 2.2.

I am ready to pay the ~$10-20 for a tethering app, however I don't want to waste my money if it isn't compatible once I get my 2.2 update pushed to my phone OTA.

Thanks and I appreciate your input!

Using PDAnet to reply to this thread...

Everything seems to be working fine...

I manually installed the leak...

Well.... that was quick! =-0

Thank you!

NP...

There was an update in the market a couple of days ago from version 2.42 to 2.45?..I think those were the #'s...

Anyway...like I said...everything seems to be working fine...

Good luck!

Everything seems faster. Scrolling through homescreens, loading websites, camera app. The quality of pictures does seem to be better. I noticed in a few I just snapped that they don't look as over-processed or too sharp. They look more natural. Also the speed it takes to save or delete pictures and return to taking pictures is faster. The camcorder is snappier too and the video quality is, as expected, noticeably better. Very nice improvements. Chrome to phone is awesome. Voice actions are pretty great too.

Nice update, maybe hyped up a bit much.

A couple gripes I got, maybe its just but if anyone has similar issues some input would be awesome.

It's cool that you can get in landscape whether you turn the phone clockwise or counterclockwise, but it seems that every time I open an app (mostly noticeable on Handcent and my browser) it automatically goes into landscape even though my phone is upright. I give it a little shake to revert it back to normal.

Battery does seem to drain a little quicker, but maybe its just me toying with the thing likes its a brand new phone. But i did notice that an actual phone call is what drained my battery the quickest. It wasn't that way on 2.1

My Beautiful Widgets keeps force closing. Also no that way on 2.1. Since the upgrade I can't "save and apply" without it freezing, so currently I have no clock on my phone.

The new boot animation is cool, but it kinda pauses when on the "eye." I always think its frozen, but eventually gets going. That said, seems like it takes a little longer to boot up.

I forgot how to calibrate my keyboard. Either I forgot where to find the option or it was taken out all together.

....I think that's everything for now.

The good: it is snappier and quicker. Flash is working good! The settings/Manage apps layout is nice. Neat new graphics for incoming calls. Awesome Boot animation. Getting great speeds, consistently around 1000, where 2.1 was at 500. I like 720p recording, although I probably don't have enough storage to do much of that. And last but not least, you don't know how much I appreciate the flashlight. The little things.

Still dinking around with it, I'll see if I notice anything else, or if my issues fix themselves.

Settings -> Language & Keyboard -> Touch Input -> Text Input and then scroll to the bottom.

Thanks. You know what happened, I was browsing the menus in landscape and I guess calibration is available in landscape so the option never showed up. But I was able to do in portrait orientation.
