Help Is there a way to lock Droid while on a call?

I keep accidently hitting my chin on the keypad and other buttons while I'm on the phone. I just got it today. Any tips?! Please! :)
 
How are you hitting your chin on the keypad? Do you put the earpiece up to your ear?

There is a proximity sensor built into the phone, so when you hold it up to your ear, the screen will automatically lock.

However, if you're holding it to your mouth (in a manner such that your chin can actually hit the keypad), then obviously the earpiece isn't up to your ear and it can't lock.

I'm sure there's an app that can do this, but it'd probably be just as easy to hit the lock key up top.
 
yes there is a sensor that locks down the phone pad while it is up to your ear and then when you move the phone away the pad auto displays. Give a friend a call and try it. Watch the screen as you move the phone away.

hold thumb/finger over the top left corner of the screen.... wonder what i should call that app. :D
 
Your proximity sensor is probably faulty. Your screen should go black (and not be able to press the screen) while on a call until you pull it away from your ear. It's common, and there's a chance that problem is going to be fixed in the Dec. 11th update...or you can go tell Verizon and get them to replace it.
 
When I am using my headset/phones for a call, the sensor isn't 'tripped' and the phone screen remains active.

I like to just put the Droid in my pocket and continue talking, so I push the 'on/off' switch on the top of the device while still in the call, and it puts the screen 'to sleep' but does not disconnect the call.
 
I never had this problem until after the system update/upgrade. Now I can't figure out how to stop it and remembering to hit the lock button on every call won't happen. I've had multiple isses sine the upgrade and actually reset my entire phone- not the factory choice from the menu- a hard reset. Anybody think I should swap it out? I'd hate to get another one with new probs... thx!
 
Same here. Started after the upgrade and I am not sure how I can put up with it until my contract is up. The reason I got the Droid was my blackberry was not letting calls through. This is worse! Can't talk anyway!
 
You can download the free app "mylock phone tools" and it will lock your screen when you put your phone close to your face and keep it that way until you press the camera button. I can finally use my phone and hold it anyway I damn well please without hanging up, muting the call, pressing buttons and putting people on speaker phone! Woo hoo!
