Downloaded the new Google Maps in the market and my GPS has been working flawlessly! :p:D Am I the only one? Feedback please!

WHAT?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Will try when I am outside the office.

I have never got a lock where I live at all, always got around 1500 meters... Saw this post updated my google maps, instant lock. nice :).

SCRATCH THAT! I got locked on because of my wifi... with wifi off still no lock on :(.

Sorry to hear that. I've always been able to get locked on with 3G but it would take up to 5 minutes. Now it's within 3-10 secs and the tracking is damn near perfect now!!!

The only thing that seems to get a quick lock for me is RunKeeper. It just locked in 17 sec. Then anything else that is gps related works while RunKeeper is running. Try the Maps update and nothing without assistance from RunKeeper. :(

I don't get excited about quick lock posts. I need to see a 50 mile trip where we don't drive through the fields. I'll wait 5 min if it works flawlessly after.

Im on a trip in China righht now, so i have cellular data roaming off. Wifi on. Still no gps lock for me. Standing on the balcony of the building here i get instant lock with my iPad and my wife's iphone 4. The captivate just sits and sits and can never determime a location in the exact same spot.

On a related topic:
Is navigation working better for anyone else or only maps?

It has always taken me a few minutes for navigation to work. Once it works it's usually flawless.

Runkeeper works for me as well.

Just want to add another data point to this thread...

With stock GPS settings, WiFi assistance off and newly updated Google Maps, my GPS still doesn't behave correctly.

Any rate, I'd still encourage others to at least give it a shot...who knows

There is no change whatsoever with mine with the new google maps. I think it's a coincidence that it "fixed" some phones.

lol

GPS is still broken for me. When I say broken I mean it locks accurately at times, but loses me at high speeds and the error jumps up and down on the highway.

I haven't been suffering from GPS problems like most, but the latest update actually broke GPS use on Google Maps for me. It won't lock, period, even if I warm up the GPS first with Runkeeper or GPS Test.

Was leaving Walmart tonight and thought, what the heck... I'll check out the new Google Maps and see if I could lock onto my position, with the satellite view. First, fired up the GPS Status app and it almost immediately locked onto 9 satellites. Then switched over to Google Maps, waited a few seconds while it rendered the satellite view and started to zoom in. It pinpointed me, in the row and exact space I was parked in.

Not sure why people would think that an update to a Google app would fix a defective Samsung driver. If updating an app could mess with underlying hardware driver layers, I'd be seriously concerned about Android's security model.

Any of you noticing an improvement is seeing an anecdotal and coincidental incident caused by something else.

The Google maps update has actually been in the market for over a month now. I noticed it when I first went in and I saw the message that there was an upgrade, free, best price. But it didn't effect how the GPS was working in the least. Actually it just updates the maps, and increases the file size as well.............

ding ding ding! winner!

I"ll go on record as one of the people who says that for whatever reason I suddenly get almost instant locks with very tight accuracy while sitting on my couch where neither happened in the past. I'm not attributing it to the Maps update but something is different.

I tried the GPS fix and that didn't really work for me. Downloaded the updates Maps and BAM, it found me right away exsactly where i was standing. I don't know why it works, but it did.

For everyone that says the google maps update fixed the gps. Turn off "Use Wireless networks" and your WiFi then see if it locks.

After updating G Maps I tried maps and boom instant location. But once I turned the 2 settings off no such luck.

GPS isn't fixed via the google maps update.
