Root New Unrevoked 3.21 Beta for FROYO is up

Woo Hoo... I did it! Phone is rooted and S-Off. I am so excited!! :)

That was scary as hell though. The phone rebooted so many times I almost peed my pants! But it really was so simple. Just click, watch, wait, watch... done!

Now I need to get this bloatware crap off my phone and put my old boot animation back on and I'll be all set. And maybe a custom splash screen... :D

Yup.. I was scared too for a while. Especially when it sat at the white screen for what seemed like too long. :o

That's right, you got it - #3 is the modified unrevoked drivers.

edit: looks like you beat me, congratulations good job :) Feels good doesn't it? Almost like a sense of freedom.

Please see my link above, type in a screen name, type in #unrevokedtest into channel name, and fill out the human code test.

You can get the file there.

Downloads

1. Download the Android SDK from Google
2. Download the unrEVOked3 recovery reflash tool for windows, linux, or mac.
3. Download the modified drivers from unrEVOked.

Getting ready

1. Unzip Google SDK download. You will see a folder called android-sdk-windows. Move that folder to the root of the c:\ drive, and rename it to sdk so that its location is c:\sdk.
2. Run c:\sdk\SDK Setup.exe (You will receive error messages, this is okay. Once the application is installed you can close all windows.
3. Extract the drivers from the zip and save them somewhere you will remember

I know, right?!!? :eek: I just stared back and forth between the monitor and my phone while praying to the Android Gods. But they served me well. I might even sacrifice an iPhone in their honor tonight. :D

Feels awesome! I am so proud of myself I am going to treat myself to some Outback Steakhouse tonight! LOL


Okay... another question. The instructions you posted were excellent. It explains how to do a Nandroid Backup. Except... in the clockwork recovery I don't see Nandroid as an option. Did they move it somewhere? I of course want to do a backup before I start removing things.

And if I want to use Titanium Backup from the market, do I even need to do the Nandroid backup? I assume they are the same thing and you can use one or the other, but just want to make sure.

Well it's not... but you can get the beta. Works great.


I wasn't going to do it, was just going to wait for them to make it official. But I saw so many people here using it without problems I said screw it! Besides, they only pulled it because there were two problems on Evo phones, one of which turned out to not really be a problem. I figured I was safe with my Incredible and just did it.

I feel so much better now. ;)
 
real quick, where the flip is the USB debugging again. I feel like its always hiding from me

Haha nice! I could use some steak tonight.. yum.

A little confusing - the backup and restore option you see in clockwork recovery IS Nandroid backup. So you can just use that.


I believe Nandroid is a complete system backup (like a windows restore checkpoint if something goes corrupt) while Titanium backup is for backing up personal system/app data and applications as well as other features.. someone might want to clarify or correct me, but I would just do both to be safe.

Yeah it's not called Nandroid in clockwork....just do a "backup"

Titanium (if set up how mine is...you can choose how and what it backs up) will save your apps and settings/data. Nandroid takes a snap shot of your ROM and kernel and any mods you have installed. So nandroid= operating system and state. Titanium=data and apps. Make sense? This is how I understand it all anyway :cool:
 
doing this in ubuntu, i think its safer, and for the life of me i cant remember how to open the file with sudo permissions. anybody got some insight?

i thought it was sudo run but apparently not

EDIT: Run in linux terminal, so much safer IMO

-cd to the directory where you untar the reflash.tar.gz
-type sudo ./reflash

let it go :-)

I just successfully rooted my Incredible and I swear finding this took me longer then actually doing the root

also I too was scared as I could be I've never done anything like this but afterwards I was like what thats it, did I do it right and sure enough thats just how easy it is

Just ran the beta and it worked like a charm, no problems at all. I was finally able to get rid of the Verizon crapware that came with the OTA 2.2 upgrade.
