Root New Unrevoked 3.21 Beta for FROYO is up

Just a quick question for those keeping track. Sometime right before midnight last night (eastern time) I saw the latest beta posted in the IRC channel. I downloaded it, but was seeing that with the incredibles they were getting root, but not all of them would go all the way to s-off. Just curious if that has been resolved or if they are still working. If anyone has any more information I'd love to see it. I was going to hold off using the file if they had a new version out as I definitely want s-off.

Check if you are s-off in hboot. If so, you are good to go.

I have another question for all the experts - how would you un-root Unrevoked 3.21? Would you just use the Froyo RUU to get everything back to stock, S-on, etc?

I'm not even sure why I wanna root. any good reasons? I would like to get rid of bloatware but its not a must

For me I have 3 main reasons

1. Remove the crapware

2. UC/OC to conserve battery when not in use, and increase performance when in use.

3. The ability to flash new ROM releases. I like updates and changes, and VZW hates to release them. So i will rely on the dev crews lol.

I know there is a process to go back to stock, if/when the time comes start doing research ... doesn't make sense to research it early since the processes change frequently and often times get easier and easier :)

You can run 3.21 and if it brings you back into ClockworkMod when the reflash.exe is completed instead of back to your phones homescreen, then you didn't get S-off. If you want S-off, all you need to do is go to the unrEVOked forever site and follow the instructions there to get s-off.

What unrEVOked is attempting with 3.21 is to make it all one process instead of the separate process with 3.14 and unrevoked forever. But you can still get s-off once you are rooted.

It should work like a charm on an Incredible. I was in on the first test version and got root and S-OFF in one attempt. I don't think that the Incredible is a problem child for this build but, like any beta software, use at your own risk!

This is what I had to do, and it worked without issue. Thanks for the help you showed on IRC Heathsrow. You made it easy to understand!

You are Welcome. Glad I could be of assistance...new build of 3.21 is out and it looks like s-off is working now with the root.

Update:

Developer noted that [beta 3.21] s-off is working flawlessly for incredibles now.

Oh heath.. just too quick for me

Any word on when this will officially release? I was offered a link to the beta but since this will be my first time I would feel safer if it were official.

And yes, I know I sound like a teenage girl about to loose her virginity! :p I kinda feel that way, too! :D

lol!

You are funny ;)

From what I've seen the testing is going very well. It don't think it will be long.

I remember the developer saying yesterday that it's likely the official will be released by the end of the week.

Hopefully he is right - we don't want to keep you waiting too long. Although the build up can be stimulating.

ROOTED! Using the 3.21 that was just put up at 5:30PM (MST) today on the IRC group. Flawless. The guys on the IRC channel are great, including Matt (one of the developers of unrevoked). I am on a stock 2.2 (via OTA) Incredible. Now rooted, nandroid and Titanium backed up. Tomorrow: remove the crapware!

LOL, I try! Though in all fairness, it's my Dinc about to lose it's virginity, not me :D

That's good news. Hopefully it's out by Sunday morning so I can work on it most of the day if I need to.

The beta was very easy to use , was rooted in less than 5 minutes. :)

Okay... I have the beta file. But since their wiki page is also still down, I don't have the instructions on how to do this :( I think I have the basic idea from all my reading, but I would prefer their exact instructions so I don't fluck something up!

The USB drivers for windows are the same and need to be applied in hboot. Check out http://www.jonamerica.com/technology/howto-root-the-htc-droid-incredible/ for information.

These are the best instructions (link above). Very will layed out. Totally dumby proof.

Once the USB drivers are installed all I did was run the UnRevoked 3 file and the file told me to plug in my phone and told me what to do from then on , really was a one click operation . :) But you just need to do what you feel ok with , not trying to push you.

Okay... one quick, and probably stupid, question before I start.

On #3, extract the drivers from the .zip, they are referring to the #3 on downloads, right?

I ask because I already have the SDK from a while ago (to take screenshots) and I remember the setup of that providing drivers. So I want to make sure they are talking about the unrevoked drivers and not the SDK ones that I already did.

So put the modified drivers from unrevoked INTO the c:\sdk\usb_driver, right?

Downloads

1. Download the Android SDK from Google
2. Download the unrEVOked3 recovery reflash tool for windows, linux, or mac.
3. Download the modified drivers from unrEVOked.

Getting ready

1. Unzip Google SDK download. You will see a folder called android-sdk-windows. Move that folder to the root of the c:\ drive, and rename it to sdk so that its location is c:\sdk.
2. Run c:\sdk\SDK Setup.exe (You will receive error messages, this is okay. Once the application is installed you can close all windows.
3. Extract the drivers from the zip and save them somewhere you will remember

I got my UnRevoked 3.2 one click file over at XDA but they have taken it down now. I think there is a file up at IRC , don't have a link , someone who got it there will probably have one , sorry .:)
