How bad is the standard battery?

I was going to get the extended battery for the Droid X that I just ordered but the lack of good cases that work with the extended battery makes me think it might just not be worth it. How long are people getting out of the stock battery?
 
Depends on usage, I had a 20 minute call, a few texts and emails throughout the day yesterday and it was at 60% charge when I woke up this morning at 9 AM....took it off the charger yesterday at 8AM, so 25 hours and it was still at 60%.
 
You should also consider and external battery with USB output. I have one by Sanyo and it is 5000 mAh and that gives me 3 full charges.
 
I just got the extended battery and it fits with the silicone case from VZW. The stock battery works well. I was getting a good 12-15 hours of use moderate use out of the standard battery. You can get the battery left widget from the market, it good tool for battery use. Its NOT perfect, but works very well.
 
Guys a couple of questions:

1 - Which battery app tells you when you unplugged the phone and how long it's been unplugged in the Ongoing Notification section?

2 - Can you charge the phone through USB on a PC? I am getting some kind of "too powerful" when I plug it into my pc.

1) the stock battery app works with this, but the battery left widget does this as well

2) Yes you can charge with through the USB port. Not sure about the "too powerful" thing

Is there anyway to make it show up in the Notification area? I see it when I go into Settings -> Battery Manager -> Battery Use....just trying to make it easier by seeing it in the Notification area with the other battery info.
 
I have an extended battery...


I'm getting in innocase active from Seidio when its available.. I'm just going to leave off the battery door so it fits..

the pictures i have seen of the glossy silicon with the extended battery didn't look too well :(
 
We bought second batteries with wall chargers off ebay for $10 a pop. We used them along with our regular batteries at dragoncon, and had heavy use, and between the two batteries never really had any power issues.

Since then (2 weeks) we've hardly used the extra batteries at all, but we are occasionally swapping them to condition them properly.
 
In my experience, the Droid X battery is very not bad. Once the "new" wore off and I started using it like I used to use my iPhone, the life got much longer, beats the tar out of what my 3Gs used to get.
 
I soaked STD Batt. in half day intentionally using it intensively for calls, broswing, media playback, GPS, photos, video, etc. With normal use mine easily lasts from morning to night. I frequently cradle mine in Moto docks throughout the day (Home>Car>Office>Car>Home) so it has opportunity to recharge every few hours and never dips below 80%. As for extended Batt, Verizon store guy had it on his phone and said didn't make drastic difference. Also, for my taste, I like the contour of the phone and how it fits in my hand with the standard cover. When I held the DX with the extended cover, that contour is changed by the extra small hump of bigger cover and I didn't like it. JC
 
I have both the extended battery and standard battery. If I could do it over again, I would either buy an extra standard battery with an external charger, or just an extra standard battery. The extended is not really worth carrying around for me, because it uses a different battery door. Some say that you can use the verizon gel case with it, which I use with my standard battery, or you can use the standard battery door with the extended battery, but it's not perfect and it bothers me. It's annoying to have to carry the extra battery door for when I need the extra battery.

Just use the extended battery cover with the standard battery. That way you don't have to carry around any extra cover.
 
The stock battery has been fantastic for me since it got "broken in". Typically i unplug at 545 am, and throughout the day spend about 20 mins on phone calls, 60 mins on the web, a few d/l, usually change my theme, and message a bunch and i'll be at 60-70 percent at the end of the day.
 
With calls, checking emails, facebook, twitter, espn, and my blog during the day a few times each I get 10-12hrs before I'm at the point where I better charge it.

1. I don't have a task killer.
2. I turn off BlueTooth, WiFi, and GPS when I'm not using them.
3. I turn of data delivery in the background. (Under data management).
4. I have screen set to Auto Brightness most of the time, but sometimes 0% because inside at work 0% is very easy to see and use.
5. I don't have crazy apps just to have them. Only what I need and use.

I've seen this error. Are you plugging it into the front of your pc or possibly to a usb hub or keyboard with a usb port into it?

A lot of these remote usb ports can't push enough power for advanced devices. For example, I have a Belkin Nostromo N52te gamepad and a Logitech G15 keyboard. Sure, the keyboard has two usb ports on the back, but it can't pull enough juice to power my gamepad.

Connect the X directly to the back of your pc and you should be fine.

What?! I unplug my phone at 90% last night and when I wake up it's at 20%. Not sure what setting or things I have to do to have a standard battery time like you guys. I have Battery Left and it tells me that I have a Full Battery Life of 7:04.

You have something running thats preventing your phone from sleeping, have you installed Spare Parts? It will tell you whether your phone is sleeping or not, then you can use other apps to find out what specific app is causing it.

I calibrated Battery Left awhile back, and I had 22 hours from a full charge, but it was highly inaccurate (+/- 20% from the actual battery % the phone reported).

You shouldn't lose any more than 20% battery life overnight (8-12 hours being idle), best case you only lose 10% during that time, but if your losing 70% in one night, you have something sucking your battery down, or you have a faulty battery.
 
I bought the extended battery from Verizon, my Body Glove case fits just fine. I am a very heavy user and the extended battery has made a major difference for me. I can easily get through a full day now without charging.
