Moto Droid Gallery Video

I thought we'd already established based on my test that there is an issue with YOUR Droid and not will all of them. Yet you are still going on and on about it like it's a real issue.

Its still much much faster in overall scrolling and swiping and zooming in to find and adjust photos. Yours confirmed some issue with my droid not showing thumbs fast enough that must be related to some background process. It must be some process that runs without showing programs in the running programs list but I am having difficulty figuring it out because I havent been able to figure out how to hard reset back to factory and not have google reinstall all of my apps.

Which seems to be another big issue because at the moment it looks like you cant keep your apps from reinstalling, so if you have a rogue app it makes it tough to troubleshoot. I am afraid if I do one of the trick workarounds posted that I will end up losing all of my paid apps and that would be a major PITA.

krichek has demonstrated that the issue is not inherent to the Droid, but seems to be specific to your device. So I'm really not understanding why you don't simply disable some of the background processes, and re-run your test. That will help confirm (or otherwise) that the lag you seem to have is due to some other process. Then we can track down *which* process is causing the problem.

No, you shouldn't *have* to disable processes, but clearly something is causing a problem, so help yourself and try to work out *which* process(s) it is.

Thats what I am trying to do at the moment with a hardreset and no apps. But that reveals a larger issue in itself. No one should have to use a task manager app to kill any processes the os should turn them down or off to open up pro/memeory for the currently running app. The thumbnails appearing just happened to be the most dramatic thing but my post was describing numerous things thumbs or no thumbs it is still signifacntly slower & choppier and less efficient to nav and teak photos than a 2nd gen Ipod the droid should at least match it or exceed since it is supposed to be multitudes faster than the digitally clueless beauty queen (Iphone 3G)

The droid actually just finished loading the gallery after I did a hard reset and skipped the google login. The thumbs did load in no prob but still not as fast and efficient as an ipod. But if it were this way and had native swipe nav and multitouch I would be perfectly fine with the scrolling. Now to figure out how to login to google and not automatically load in all apps so I can do them manually and not lose my paid apps.

Do you know how to do this, because I am getting a skinking feeling that this is going to be another major issue. When someone says the only way to do it is create an alternate gmail account etc etc just to manually install apps that is bad.

So we have identified:
1] The lag was due to process(es) on your device, not the device per-se.
2] You don't like the navigation or UI on some apps. Okay, that's your prerogative.
3] You have a problem with the was Android manages background processes. I have no comment to add to this.

Back to troubleshooting. I'd simply disable Google syncing before the reset. (When I did a hard reset, I had Google sync off. Post-reboot it was still off, and no programs were auto-restored.) If you re-link your Google account to the Droid, with auto-sync off, the market Place will recognize which apps you have already paid for.

Then manually re-install programs, testing the thumbnails periodically to determine which one/set of programs causes problems.

this may be the most ******** topic yet, i havent had a day when i was scrolling through images and had to apologize to my friend for the slowness hahahah ********! The internet is blazing fast. THIS IS SOOO DUMB! FIND ANOTHER REASON TO COMPLAIN! Gah!

2. so you are saying that its just my opinion on the UI but the droids gallery ui is definitely faster and more efficient than an Iphone/Ipod 2G?

Thanks for the reinstall info. what will happen when i turn sync back on?

Right now I am clean, no google account an no sync. Thumbs are populating nicely.

Another mindless droidbot post. You just dont get it. The thumb scrolling is just a small part of the overall failure to rise to marketing expectations. There are som many other things that are failing even when compared to a 2G ipod and Id bet even to a 1G ipod/iphone.

Internet is blazing fast.... I havent seen a droid beat mobile safari in speed often and the few pages it had it barely does. Are you saying that the Droid is destroying the Iphone on internet browsing?

I don't personally own an ipod and probably never will as Itunes is not something I'm willing to put up with for any device. I also do not own an Iphone but I do have easy access to all 3 generations as my wife's entire family/extended family own them. The 3GS is the fastest out of the 3 obviously and when I compare gallery scrolling to it I see very little difference. In fact my brother-in-law actually said pictures appear slightly sharper on the Droid, likely attributable to the higher resolution.

As for efficiency I think that is a matter of personal opinion. I personally have no use for pinch to zoom etc as I only have 1 hand. Therefore I appreciate the double tap as well as the ability to click the arrow with my finger to navigate back and forth.

All that said, the European version of the Droid has been demonstrated to have pinch to zoom, screen swiping to flip through pics etc. That tells me one of two things. Either Motorola has decided the US shouldn't get it for some reason or due to time constraints the Droid was released first and an update will bring us up to the same level of functionality as the Euro version sometime in the near future.

Either way, the Droid will be rooted. It's just a matter of time, and once that happens you'll have more of what you want either as an official update or as an unofficial one.

Ummm. yeah.. when you set up your photo sync for the ipod it gives you the option to store photos in their original resolution. It is not rendering them in the original resoultion thats why they are called thumbnails... You know the things that are low resolution renditions so you can quickly scan and find what you are looking for.....

actually, that option isnt available anymore for the iphone. automatically converts all photos to 480x320, which is really annoying on the iphone. you can never zoom in without getting blurry images. made me wonder why the zoom option even existed.

Interesting! Thanks for the info i'll check that out. I had include full rez pics checked before but there have been several itunes updates since then.

oh? i knew i was on to something.
maybe instant access and reference?

my itouch (1st gen) doesn't retain the full resolution of the photo synced through itunes... does your iphone? have you tried manually puling the photos off the phone and seeing what quality you are left with? .....is that really backing them up if they aren't original quality?

the iphone doesn't have the power to manage all those photos at full resolution! that's why itunes compresses and resizes them to a friendly version for you to tote around.

well, i wouldn't say it doesn't have the power to manage @ full rez. i think it was a decision by the apple team to not allow the common user to sync full resolution images in order to prevent them from filling up their phones/ipods with 5mb images.
