Help Android 2.1 Update

According to the folks over at MoDaCo and in Russia, it is now available.

LG GT540 Optimus - GT540.MoDaCo.com - Android @ MoDaCo

Firstly, if you don't want to lose the information in your current apps, download ASTRO File Manager and back up all your Application data. Then you can download them all again and have the settings etc. you had before.

1. Download, save and extract the following to the desktop:

KDZ File: http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/swdata/WEBSW/GT540/ABALBK/V20B_00/V20B_00.kdz
KDZ FW UPdater: http://files.gameworld.kz/5p8mpt3f1n.html
LG Android Driver: http://files.gameworld.kz/c5z46n1ukk.html

2. Install LG Android Driver.
3. On your phone, go to Settings > Applications > Development and set phone into debugging.
4. Connect phone via USB Cable.
5. Run Windows Enabler from the file you extracted above, and when it appears in the Task Bar (Bottom right) click the icon in the task bar ONCE, and it will display as 'On.'
6. Run KDZ_FW_UPD.exe. Select 3GQCT in the drop-down menu, which is greyed out. Then Browse to where the KDZ 2.1 file is. (Desktop? V20B_00.kdz) Press the long button just above the information screen, and leave it for a good five to ten minutes. Your phone will enter Emergency Mode two or three times, however you need not do anything. Do not unplug it, do not power your computer down and don't interrupt the process. Your phone will start up completely formatted, and when the KDZ updater has finished, you can unplug your phone and use it again, with 2.1 installed.

Once done, you can delete all files off your desktop and uninstall whatever you don't need to use again.
 
mate this sounds like a cutom rom, why would it be on megaupload if it was official, if you use this version and it is not the correct file could brick ure phone and even if it didnt brick it would still void your warranty and if it does brick uve voided ure warranty and have wasted around 100 pound, im still honestly very tempted but im rather worried also
 
this is all totally legit... i have done it on my phone!! it runs beautifully! everything seems so much more clearer and access to live wallpapers is a good laugh too!
 
im glad to hear its legit ive been trying to do it for two hours now but everytime i hit the 'long button' the program just stops responding ahhhhhh, its probs my crappy comp, ill try it later on my girlfriends win7 laptop!! god why wont it just work!!
 
Hi, any of you guys cant work out why kdz_fw_upd just keeps failing? I found this setting after about 4 hours of fvcking about: on the phone, go to settings > sd card, and UNTICK the "mass storage only" option. Then when you plug usb back in, it installs the rest of the drivers that were missing! Stupid option why did they want to enable that as default for goodness sake!!

Because I uploaded it to Megaupload. I wanted all the files to be in one package so I could explain the above, but as already stated, Megaupload/LG took it down.

Mine did as well. Just leave it. That's what I did.

Just so you know, it does work. I wouldn't have posted all that above for it not to work.

I have the Mario Live Wallpaper now, which is FANTASTIC. It also comes with Twitter and Facebook for LG as standard, which is nice.

One thing I did, though, was stupidly uninstall LG PC Suite, which had my contacts backed up in it. So, I lost my contacts, which is massively disappointing.
 
A question for those that have installed 2.1, is there an enable root option in the engineering menus and/or does Universal Androot work?

From the posts at the modaco.com forum, the 2.1 rom cannot be rooted yet. The menu trick no longer exists and UniversalAndRoot does not work either.

Also be *warned*, this rom is the Russian/Baltic one, if you need any language other than Russian/Baltic countries/English, wait for the official upgrade.
 
So is this rom in English, and does it work on an network locked gt540 , like O2, I am confused :confused:

Yes it does have and english language option and yes it will work on ANY GT540 locked or open.

He was baisicaly saying that if you want any languages other than english/ russian you will have to wait for a release for your country.
 
On kdz updater i cant select anything at the drop down box? or browse for the file?

anyone else have this problem? help!
 
I have windows enabler on then load the updater and still its all greyed out and i cant select? is there a specific way i should be doing this?

Have you switched on the windows enabler? Just click on the little triple-window icon in the taskbar, it will then say "on" over it.
