I agree that the issue is tied to the GPS. The other day I was able to sneak around the problem by only using google maps for a minute or so at a time. If I actually went through and used the "navigate" feature, within 5 minutes it would reboot. If I just used the maps feature, it did not. I have noticed other times however when using no apps the phone will reboot. Perhaps GPS is going in background without us realizing it. Anyhow, HTC needs to fix this very soon or I will be switching to the EPIC 4G phone and giving Samsung a try. Are there any know issues with it?
Yes, the Epic has a problem in that the upload speed is capped at 150 kb/s (that's bits, not bytes). Sprint won't admit there's a problem and Samsung won't even look into it without Sprint's say so. Go to the sprint forums, get on the one for the Epic, and search for "upload" or "capped" in the body. It is causing people to returning their Epics in droves (and making me regret that I ordered one just before reading about it).I agree that the issue is tied to the GPS. I have been able to pinpoint that it happens for some reason with GPS and mobile networks on, if it goes into a reboot loop, if I can get in and shut off the mobile network, it stops rebooting. I have been able to run the GPS by itself, but unfortunatley both google maps and Sprint Navigation require the mobile network to be on. I have now had it reboot without GPS on and just mobile network on.
If I run it on wifi only with mobile networks off absolutely no issues what so ever.
My guess is that this is a hardware design problem, which is why Sprint is laying low on this. Pushing an update is one thing, but replacing thousands of phones costs big bucks.
I'm thinking that the current drawn by the combination of the data radio and the GPS module exceeds what the traces or components can handle, causing a voltage drop that ultimately reboots the phone.
Or it might be a heat dissipation problem as some have noted.
Either way, not an inexpensive repair for Sprint to implement. If so, it's going to be a long, tough slog for Evo users to get satisfaction I imagine.
I am definitely holding off on the purchase of an Evo now that I've learned of two significant design flaws, the other being the USB charging connector debacle.
Good luck, all. I hope they get this fixed soon.
...In Italy and in the rest of Europe there is many HTC Desire afflicted by this problem and the People don't know the really issue that cause this problem,
Why HTC don't say nothing??????
