2.2 blows.... they ruined the phone

My phone works just fine with 2.2 but they really screwed up the keyboard and Swype. No logic at all in changing those two things. Same with the volume control adjustment. Absolutely no reason to break things that were working fine.

Obviously the developers are not and have never been Droid X users or they would have left well enough alone.

Resetting Cache made mine a little better :)

Turn off phone. Hold Home button, turn on phone and continue to hold home button.
When it boots, press search, use side buttons and red camera button to select the reset cache. :)

Does anyone here know the difference between ignorance and stupidity? Ignorance is the absence of knowledge. Stupidity is refusing to accept it. Blaming lagging issues on the 2.2 update is like taking your car in to get painted, and when you get it back and it starts running like crap blaming it on the new paint job, when in fact one of your plugs fouled out while driving out of the parking lot.

Now I'm not doubting that anyone has truely experienced problems since doing the 2.2 OTA update, but just what exactly do you think Google went out and did to deliberately hijack your phone? If you honestly don't think Google knows their ass from a hole in the ground then please free to pick up a Windows Mobil or iPhone and live in sweet mobile phone bliss.

The froyo update is just a slight refinement of their already outstanding OS, not a complete overhaul. That's not to say there aren't any bugs in it, there have been bugs in every one of their OS's so far, why would this one be any different? But overall nothing should be acting completely different from when eclair was in charge. If it is then something else has gone wrong in your phone. And if that's the case then do some research into what issue's people have been having with their phones and what they did to resolve those issues. Knowledge is power, and for every problem there is a solution.

But jumping on here and posting that 2.2 is the root of your freeze up's and crashes... well to be honest, that just makes you look like the guy running around telling everyone not to paint their car blue because once he did his car started running like crap!
So were the thousands of people with dead pixels in the camera app(that was acknowledged by MOTO) all just stupid because I never had the dead pixel so obviously it was something they did and not the software. Bugs are generally the result of a few things, little to no testing, hardware differences, settings or a certain combination of settings not being tested. Not all X's were made in the same factory, there could be a slight difference that causes some of the problems.

I must be an idiot then to make the following assumption, under 2.1 phone worked flawlessly, after update to 2.2 numerous problems.

Without making another car painting analogy tell me Outlaw71 how does this assumption make me stooopid.

Simple, he didn't have a problem so neither should you, but you would've known that if you weren't and idiot. There is no way he can explain why we are idiots because he doesn't know how to fix our phones. Some of the methods on this forum help some people but not everyone.

If you guys are having that much trouble with your phone on 2.2 why not call or go into verizon and have them swap it out?
i know you will say, "But they will give me a refurb" if you go now your chances of a new phone are better since it has not been out that long. And even if it is a refurb chances are it will work better than your current phone. The day i got my DX i rooted it and put on a leaked froyo. and i have put many versions of 2.2 on it since. I have had no problems so if you are experiencing issues take it in and demand a new phone.

My phone was laging and freezing after the 2.2 update, I loaded teh leaked 2.2 then flashed back to 2.1 to get the OTA 2.2 then had all sorts of problems that I never had before.
I am 100% sure my issue was due to my SD card having old 2.1 files on it. I took xliderider's advise and formated my SD card and cleared my cache and my phone seems to be running great again.

I had lagging, restarts, and apps crashing. It was all due to running launcher pro under froyo. I noticed you said you did a factory reset, then immediately installed launcher pro. Uninstall LP. And see what happens. Once I got rid of it, my phone has ran flawlessly.

i do not have any of those problems at all.. i use to have to pull the battery almost once a day

since the update i have no needed to do it once.. phone laggs a bit but i think it is because of a couple apps..

I'm running LP with no problems. It would be hard to give up LP's scrollable bottom dock.

Yeah well I really did paint my car blue, and it really did start running like crap afterwards. So tell me, how can painting a car blue NOT make it run like crap?

My appologies, I was honestly unaware that dead pixels caused peoples phones to crash.

Launcher Pro is a solid app and i have no problems with it. you may want to make sure that when you do use it that you have removed all the widgets from the native homescreen. having the widgets active on 2 different home apps could cause.

Froyo is the best thing to happen to any android device.

I agree with the OP. The 2.2 BLOWS. Since the update my phone freezes up all the time to. The 3g is never present, I have an extended battery and with 2.1 it Rocked only charged every other day. Now with the 2.2 I have to chrge it every night. I have gone into the apps and killed them and all that. I am running no Apps at all. Once the update was installed I unistalled all my market apps thinking it would help with no good results.

Simple, he didn't have a problem so neither should you...

Negative. I experienced a LOT of lagging issue's, FC's and even a couple freeze ups when I got the OTA update, and I didn't do anything to my 2.1 DX (ie : no rooting, deodexting, ROM's, etc...), just switched right over from 2.1 to 2.2. So I had to start finding out what the problem was, because I knew 2.2 wasn't supposed to act that way. First I tried clearing the cache's... no luck. Then I reset the phone completely... still no luck. Reset again and formatted my SD card... BINGO!

The phone runs like a champ now. Is that because I'm some sort of computer genious? Ha, hardly. I just followed the advice I found on this and other forums until it started working correctly.

That is until froyo started working correctly. There is nothing wrong with froyo. Yes some people have gotten various bugs (the dead pixels, the Wifi bug that caused some people's phone's to stay awake, etc...), but froyo as an OS does not cause these problems that people are complaining about. There is a multitude of other things that can and have gone wrong to some users phones including mine, but that hardly gives any creed to the statement, "2.2 sucks"... I recall quite a few people having the exact same problems when we had 2.1, so how is froyo suddenly the fall guy?

Play around with a properly operating 2.2 device, it doesn't lag or crash, those are symptoms of something else that's gone wrong, it's not an inherent trait of froyo. Which is my whole point, throwing the blame for these problems at 2.2 is misguided.

Ever since the froyo update came, this is MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY. I tried to overlook it. I tried to fix it by factory resetting. I cleared my cache. I really really REALLY loved the DX when I bought it. Froyo brought me nothing but greif. My main problem is that the music app is pretty much USELESS now. Whenever I use it, the phone becomes unrepsonsive and my only way out is to pull the battery. It locks up my entire phone when it crashes. I tried downloading new music players, and so far Mp3 Player from the market has worked flawlessly. Except for the fact that it doesnt allow scrobbling which is another feature I love to death.
Listening to music has always been one of my main uses for the OG Droid, and now the DX. When peopel tell me dont use your phone as a mp3 player, I think thats bullshit. I paid good money for this product and I truly feel like Motorola broke their sh** and they need to fix it.

Another problem I have had was when rebooting the phone, sometimes it would mess up reading my memory card or something, and my ringtones were all gone. All my tones were set to a bland beeping sound. Reboot to fix it, and it isn't much of a bother I guess.

But yeah, the music app issue really has pissed me off so much that I wish I could trade it in for a Droid 2 or a HTC Incredible. I have read that A LOT of people have been having this issue, and I think that it really seems to be a large handful of people. There are a lot of people saying it made their phone better in everyway, and I do believe them. But there are the other half of us having rediculous bugs that have indeed for me at least, ruined the damn phone.

This is a big rant and I'm sorry if anybody gets mad... It's just how I feel at this point. Motorola really needs to fix their crap. It seems like it has already been too long for them to go on without making a fix. I mean really. If my 30 days were not up..i tell ya.

i certainly feel bad for you and any others that are having problems with 2.2
generally forums are used to display and solve issues and with the huge number of DX units sold and the relatively small amount of complaints i am sure moto feels there is not a huge problem or it at least fits into the expected range. This however does not help you at all and i know this. the best thing you could do is go into a verizon store and have it swapped out or call and have a new one sent. my buddy craig has a DX and did not want to root so he got the OTA and his has no issues. i don't think it is necessarily a software issue but maybe a bad batch of hardware units that are not handling the new kernel well. i know with the original D1 many phones would not handle new kernels well and many could not over clock as high as the rest of us.

The strange thing is I was having the problems you're having now with the stock mp3 player when I was on eclair. I too use my phone as an mp3 player and agree that nobody should tell us not to. It's built into the phone, so why not?

I would be out riding my motorcycle with my headphones on and all of a sudden my phone would call somebody randomly... man that used to piss me the hell off. Because before I could pull the bike over, yank the phone out of my pocket and hang up, they would answer an be like, "hello...... hello"???

Then when I did get my phone out and try to close the app it wouldn't, I would have to do a battery pull before the phone would start to work again. It did this enough times that I stopped using it and switched over to Double Twist. And I liked it so much that I just kept using it after 2.2. So if that app is still causing issue's then I'd say it's that app. Because mine did it before froyo.

My point was that some people have issues that others do not so you have no idea what someone's phone is doing.

Point taken. My point was that people who blame lagging and crashing issue's on froyo are misguided. I wasn't grouping everyone's issues in with it.

You never mentioned once that you formatted the sd card. It sounds like that is your problem, especially since you have problems while accessing it, using the music player, and missing ringtones, etc.

2.1 lagged for me also until i set up a task killer, then it ran smooth and as soon as i noticed lag I'd hit the icon and my phone is back to being a powerhouse. After 2.2 I can't use task killers so now the lag that I fixed with task killers can't be fixed so easily. I unistalled task killer and did a reset. That didn't do it but then I saw the "proper" way to reset. Nope, that didn't work so I did a reset and reformatted the sd card and didn't reinstall anything but LPP and Widget locker and still LAG. I found another problem yesterday, if I use nav and get a call the phone freezes, happened twice in about 30 mins.

I've recently found autokiller and that seems to be helping, I haven't had much lag all day. The first time I installed it my phone went crazy and I had to uninstall, but after my problems persisted I gave it another try and its been running much better with autokiller installed. I think once I tweak the program I might get it running as smooth and consistent as I had 2.1.

Using the autokiller is just a bandaid for what is really causing the problems.

Why suffer? Take your device back and get a replacement like Tom108 suggested above.

Formatting my sd card isn't something I've tried yet. I'm really excited that it will fix my problems, but I just can't get myself to believe that that would fix anything... I will definitely try it though.

If in the future I am still unhappy, do you think if I called verizon they would replace my phone for the same one or a different one? Even if I bought it on day 1? I did not pay for insurance on my phone. This is a big if.

I know ranting won't help much, but I think a little bit is necessary otherwise we would not have any interesting threads on this forum lol...
