Can the Vibrant do video chat?

Can the Samsung Vibrant from TMobile do video chat? what app is needed? does it have to be over wi-fi?

It can be done directly with no apps installed on my Vibrant.
But its not free, its $5 a month for it to work over wifi or 3G. (This is on Bell Network Canada)

You can get around that by using an APP called Fring, find it in the Android Market. Its easy to set up and you can video chat via wifi or 3G.

I have tested it, works and its pretty good overall.

not if its a bell Vibrant ;) they get the international version but named the Samsung vibrant.

I dont get it. Whats the mirror thing supposed to mean?

My phone comes with a front facing camera, I dont need to use any mirrors.

Its the same thing as the one from T-Mobile.

no it isn't, The Bell Vibrant is just the International Galaxy S i.e. front facing camera and physical home button.

Tmobile version lacks the front facing camera, and has 4 capacitive buttons on the front.

Wow really? Thats crazy... So captivate and facinate dont have front facing cameras either?

nope, the only US Galaxy S phone with a front facing camera is the Sprint Epic 4G, I'm assuming the other 3 carriers left it out due to bandwidth over 3G, but the fact T-Mobile is aggressively rolling out HSPA+ they honestly should have left it in. But Verizon and AT&T I don't think have the bandwidth to do it over 3G.

Ahh ok I see. Glad Bell has the full featured version.

There is a Skype app out now, but I dont think it supports video chat yet.

Also, there also this.

Qik for HTC EVO 4G - Android app on AppBrain

It says its for the Evo, but it may work just as good on Vibrant?

Really cant help you on the trouble you're having.

I actually stopped using Fringe a while back and just decided to pay up the $5 a month Bell Canada charges to video chat with the gf on her Vibrant.

Super easy and the function is built in.

there's a mod to install the front facing camera, which i hear is fairly easy to do.

I was actually a bit interested in this mod til I learned that I would have to root my phone and install a rom.
