Help Sendings photos by SMS

With the Desire, is it possible to send photos by SMS?

In the operators manual it tells me how to send by email, talks about flickr and twitter and Facebook but no mention of sending via messages. I have tried without success, a message bounces back telling me that there is a 'generic network failure', but I use my Nokia with the same network and that works.

Its no big deal I suppose, more of an irritation really

Gents?

Yes it is as I have done it many times, you just need to make sure you have the correct apn settings on your phone,i suggest you contact your network provider and get them.

Cheers mate, all sorted now, it was the network provider and you DO have to connect to the internet to send a picture even if its through messages

If you use eMail rather than SMS it may be cheaper. On WiFi it certainly will be abd if you have an unlimited usage contract, then as long as the size/volume is not massive, that will be free too.

I never SMS pictures anymore. eMail is far better.

On a point of pedantry, you can't send pics via SMS. What you're describing there is MMS.

Many thanks for your advice, its sorted now it was my network provider that needed to set up my account for this, I live in Thailand so its probably different here. One thing though and that is I need to be on line when I send the SMS which is a bit strange............but no problem

Mms uses data. It's not strange at all. They have managed to send text only via voice networks but picture messages are using data network. This is for every phone

Well with my Omnia and before that Nokia I never had to go on line to send a sms with photograph, in fact with my Nokia, I dont think I could get on line

"Data" does not equal "the Internet".

MMS requires a data connection as Dan says, but it's treated differently from Internet data ("mobile web" if you like) by the mobile networks.

you would have been buggered with a nokia n900 mate, that doesnt even do it as standard, you have to download a third party app and set all the connections up manually.getting my desire was a breath of fresh air in some respects, still love my n900 though:)

That may have been the case but I was unaware that I was on line.

With my Desire I have to go onto the internet via settings and wireless connections. With my Samsung and Nokia I just went into messages

Then you have set your phone up incorrectly.

Check you apn settings with your carrier.

Edit> do you specifically turn off your data network?
