Battery problems, quirks and issues: Read first.

So I tried the full discharge several times. It didn't work for me. I went to sprint to see if they could test the battery. They couldn't at the store in my town but the rep gave me an additional battery at no cost, he didn't even check my account. I was placated but still somewhat upset because I was getting MAYBE 4-5 hours a charge. I had panda home installed, all the nintendo and the genesis emulators (I LOVE THESE), docs to go(paid), screebl lite(Keeps the screen on while you are using the phone, handcent, google voice, aidko book reader (not entirely sure of the spelling) and a few others that I never used. I had task panel x installed which I found more accurate in listing the active processes than others. I would browse the internet maybe 20 minutes a day, play Ghouls and Ghost on my commute into new york 15 minutes each way, send a few texts. I rarely use the phone to actually talk, maybe 10-15 minutes a day if that....................i did a factory reset last night and started charging using the original battery. It came off the charger around 7 this morning. I reinstalled only spare parts and documents to go. Today I talked around 20-30 minutes, sent maybe 6-7 seven texts (usual is anywhere from 20-50), browsed the web for maybe 20 minutes total. It's 11:38 pm here in NJ, a good 16-17 hours later and spare parts says I'm currently at 50%. Tonight I'm reinstalling my emulators and handcent (i'm not going to do a full discharge) and see what the results are. If everything goes well, the next day I will reinstall panda home and see what effect that has on battery life. If the battery life that I got today becomes the standard I will be very pleased with this phone. Given some of the previous posts I suspect the factory reset maybe key if you have done the full discharge and are still getting awful battery life.

How do you do a hard reset? I am on my second Moment with the same battery problems, using the same tricks as everyone else. I will try a hard reset tonight. If that does not do the trick, I am done with the Moment. It's a joke that we have to go through this with a phone.

1. Settings-->sd card & storage---> factory data reset. i would remove the sd card before you do it as I don't know if this wipes the sd card data.

I only did one full discharge after the reset, it took about thirty hours for the phone to finally shut off. I reinstalled handcent and picsay today, still getting very decent battery life. Took the phone off the charger today at work around 3 pm, i was at 90 percent. played ghouls and ghosts during my commute home (about 20-30 minutes) and a few phone calls, three to four texts. It's 7:13pm now and I am at 80 percent. I won't charge it until tomorrow when I get to work (hopefully the thirty hours that I got was not a fluke) and then reinstall panda home and screebl lite to see how that impacts the battery life.

I reiterate, i'm not sure if the 4-5 hour battery life I was getting was due to an app that I installed or something that came pre-installed or otherwise. But the factory reset seems to work.

Question: Are text messages stored on the phone or on the sd card? If on the sd card is there any way to restore them?

So is anyone who is using OpenHome getting reasonably good battery life? I have my suspicions about it... I keep stripping things off my phone and it's not getting any better, OpenHome and my games (which should only be running when I'm playing them, right?) are about all that's left. I'm going to do a factory reset as well... but just wondering about the OH thing.

11:16 pm several texts and a 30 minute phone call battery is at 60 percent. 9 hours since I pulled the phone off the charger and the battery wasn't fully charged. I think it might be safe to love this phone

7:23 am. just waking up. didn't use the phone obviously while I was sleeping and the battery still reads 60 %. (yes the very first thing I did when I woke up is reach for the phone.)

I was told to repost my question here...

My battery is lasting 6 hours from full charged with the provided samsung charging cable to turns off and wont turn back on... not talking about the meter problem.. talking about the length of the battery... When i use a generic Micro usb charger, the phone gets hot and doesnt seem to actually hold a charge even tho it shows it is charging... the generic charger worked with a blackberry tour and my friends droid.. is there a power supply/battery problem or is it actually charging and the stock samsung charger is messed up? The highest spareparts show is 4200 mV.. i thought it should be at 4400 mV when fully charged.. This is my 2nd moment and 3rd battery now...
At dead battery, spare parts shows around 3600 mV

The problem i am noticing is the heating issue when charged with non OEM chargers (usb cable in a usb-ac/dc and a generic micro usb charger with OIC)

have u checked using spare parts to see if anything is pegging the CPU/Network/etc?

have u tried a factory reset after a couple discharges? it seems to be working for akasan and i may try it if a few others post their results... like rldev.

I am pegging MEEBO for a lot of my problems...
Spare parts shows running 74.3%, screen on 16% in other usage Total in all time..

In network usage The android system has used the most,, followed by Meebo at about 33% that of the android system

gotcha. my quirk is the moxier mail. i use it for work and i have a lot of messages. that has its own issues as its not fully supported and am trying to find the right 'polling' interval to limit network usage.

i'd like to hear otehrs results with the factory default.

does android remember what apps you've bought? does anyone know? like if i bought one, do a factory reset do I have to rebuy the apps?

I can answer this cause i have done a factory reset (along with get a replacement moment already)...
Yes, when you sign into the market place witht eh gmail account it will show all the ones you have purchased in the mydownloads screen (might take a few minutes to sync)... It does not remember all the free apps you downloaded (you have to search them and reinstall them) but no, you do not need to rebuy the apps...

so u've done a factory reset and no help. had u done a few full drains on the battery?

The market will remeber paid apps. I recommend you download Astro FIle Manager from the market. It's a good file manager and it allows you to backup most of your apps to your sd card so you can reinstall them after a hard reset.

I have done everything that has been discussed on both here and the sprint community forums... It looks like meebo (mixed with my office having low signal) might contribute to the low battery life... Going to test it out using the stock AIM client instead of meebo and turn roaming off and see if that fixes the issue...

There could be other culprits out there (but it is incredibly hard to try to figure out)..
Currently using:
- Open Home with the HERO theme
- Beautiful widget using zip code based weather updates on a 30 minute refresh (disable the weather.com widget)
- Handcent SMS
-ATK free
- Battery Left
- Was using meebo but not anymore
Battery left is showing a full battery life of 5:52 with a 24% accuracy....

Things that ATK says are running that i haven't opened since rebooting the phone:
Voice Control
Voicemail
Slacker
Moxier Mail
(there are other things listed but i have turned those on since last boot)

On boot after killing all running apps i will have around 65 mb Avalible memory
After a few minutes (start up programs run) i will have around 26 mb Avalible memory
When i kill all tasks after this i will average 51 MB Avalible memory... Would really like to know what is eating 14 MB memory between boot/task kill and running for a little while/task kill

I did the factory reset last night. Phone has been drained and fully charged for the last 2 weeks. It did not help. I turned the phone on at 8:00am this morning and it is down to 60% in just over 2 hours. Second Moment, same problems. I'm not sure what I am going to do now. I might have to reconnect my old Q9c and wait for something better.

nice i'll check it out. have u done the reset yet? if so do u have any results?

gotcha. it sucks to have to go thru all this. i'm getting about 16 hours right now and i will be happy once i have a legit external charger for the spare battery i think. thinking about the factory reset. which weather widget u using?

Beautiful Widget is the weather widget i am using.. 30 minute refresh based upon Zip code (disabled geolocation)

Ah shit that sucks. How long does it typically last all in all?

Gotcha thnx

Hello fellow Droidians; I jus wanted to say that this is the actual thread that lead me to this forum & I am overly thankful I found it, or more so that u guys/gals even figured out the whole battery thing; the 1st day I had it the battery was excellent but yet after, it was needing a charge every 3 hrs or so, until lastnite:D the method worked on my 1st full drain & charge so I say thanks to all that chimed in with this!;)

I didn't realize that moxier was a battery draining culprit... are there more details on this in another thread or somewhere in this one? (I read through the whole thread the day BEFORE I got my moment... I've gotta do it again now that I've actually used the phone but crunched for time). I definitely need moxier for my work email... but if there's something I can do to make it less invasive to my battery that'd be cool.

Oh I uninstalled Battery Left last night under the advisement of some board members and it does seem to be making some difference... by now my phone would usually already be at the long stretch of 15%, but it's been holding steady at 50%, so others who are using that app might want to keep that in mind. It doesn't really let the phone go to sleep when the screen blacks out, as Spare Parts will show you.

well i'm not sure if it is, but i was saying my 30% of android network usage is matched by moxier, where his was something else.

do u use direct push or polling? i'm doing 1 hour polling. I don't NEED it but its very nice to have esp synched with my calendar. i never need emails right now so polling works for me, but it doesn't always work 100% of the time.

sleep/ontime etc all look good from spare parts. but i'm sure if i took moxier out it would help my battery usage, i don't think night and day tho.

So my battery was at 90% and 4000 mV 35 deg C... Plugged it into the 3rd party charger and within an hour the battery was down to 70% with 3900 mV and 43 deg C.. pulled it off the charger and within 3 minutes it went down to 60% and 43 deg C.. any ideas?

The 3rd party charger i am using is a TWALLv9r which says it is compatible with the samsung moment on all the sites i see selling it..

Unfortunately I need push email for moxier... part of what I do for my company means I need to know immediately if we have any fires that need addressing. If I could schedule it to switch from one to the other depending on time of day MAYBE I'd be safe with that, but I doubt that's the kind of feature that would be added anytime soon if ever.

How many people with battery issues are using Handcent Vs how many people without battery issues are using Handcent? I have recently been researching the battery issue in android and a lot of people think the battery drain might be caused by Handcent... Just looking for some more data..
