Update From Mobile Phones Direct

I think I may have to head down to Three tomorrow. Getting really pissed off with MPD now.

Was very happy with Three before, only gripe was that they didn't "roam" data on the Orange masts, but since the T-Mob merger, that seems to have been sorted

I am not a brand or tech or anything specialist - but 3 have been awesome with us, for the last 3 years and even though I sometimes have a hell of a time understanding the support/sales teams because they talk very fast and the reception on my PoS phone is awful - it is apparent that the actual company allows the phone support the right to think and to actually help their customers and I love it. (and no one seems to mind when I have to say beg your pardon? I cannot hear you. Sorry? 1000 times per call.)

They really seem to value their customers - at least more than other mobile companies.

I can now CONFIRM that yes, you can get the SAME deal *in store* as on the phone/online - and often *better* deals.

I've just spoken to the Maidstone shop and I could walk out with the DHD today, if I hadn't taken an early upgrade offer (1 month early), which is the only thing they cannot do in store.

Basically, I am not eligible till end november, but when I was chatting to 3 on the phone about my future options, they offered me an early upgrade on the phone, which was good because my husband's display is cracked.

So as he's in Uni and doesn't need a new snazzy super phone now, so rather than buying him a cheapie to use till he can upgrade - I paid for the early upgrade will just pass him mine, for the month.

Whatever dude. It's a quick phone call. Also, it is not as if I said it was the best deal, blah blah - but there you are talking about getting it from Hong Kong - not everyone can do that. Then you get onje from HTC, well, not everyone can do THAT either.

It's an option worth looking at for some people which involves all of one phone call.

I rang up, quoted the deals I was offerred, asked if they could offer the same and they could.

Plus, you once again haven't subtracted the cost of the phone.

I am not trying to claim some kind of expert status or anything, or rain allover your "I know everything about everything ever" parade - but this is an option for some people, if they want to pursue it and the cheapest deal is not always the best deal at the time.

You quote prices as "expensive" without subtracting the cost of the phone if bought on its own.

You CAN get a cheaper PayG package, sure. With less of everything. I think it's like 3000 texts, 150 minutes and 500 mb for

Additionally, the lowest priced option is not always the BEST option. Some people need more minutes (like with my job, NO WAY I could get by on 150 minutes). Some people need more data transfer. I need the 500 mins minimum contract - because I cannot be dealing with remembering to top up, etc.

Some people (like me), who raise a family of 5 on my own, whilst my husband attends Uni cannot throw out

lol calm down. Your advice was great. I went to the 3 store today and they were out of stock. They however had a nice manager special but i forgot the details haha. Might just wait it out for MPD to get it delivered.

hello Everyone. i am very new here and registered because i am really keen to get a HTC Desire HD.
However, I am having a problem in that I don't know where is the best place to get one. I'd only want the phone sim free as I already have a sim card ready for the phone.
I unfortunately can't find a HTC store. Only wish they had one. I know that there's a few websites that sell this phone sim free such as Play.com, Expansys.com, Mobilephonesdirect and later probably Amazon as well. however, I don't know how reliable these websites are and am worried that i might have problems if they were to send me a faulty phone.
i've also seen the phone in PCworld and am considering getting it from them but again i am not sure what the customer care/ after sales service will be like.
ideally i'd like to purchase it directly from a HTC Shop but realise that there isn't one.
please can someone kindly advise me on where or which is the most reliable and best place to get a Desire HD?
Many thanks.

mikecalg:

I wouldn't touch PC World/Currys with a bargepole. There's a reason why they always come bottom of customer satisfaction surveys.

Amazon have a 30 day money back no questions asked guarantee, and there's usually no problem after that if it's faulty. I trust them. (Well, as much as I trust any retailer. ;))

I don't want to make a massive deal about this so i'll reply and then can be swiftly get back onto topic.

I said I was going to get mine from Hong Kong..Just because I used some intelligence to contact HTC isn't exactly my fault Anne.

I'm not saying everyone can do that either. It's not like I have demanded people buy it that particular way is it ;)...I also never said it wasn't the best deal.

It's worth a shot, but you can't 100% guarantee that If I was to call or anyone else was to call is going to get the same deal as you.

Plus, you once again haven't subtracted the cost of the phone.

I've only gone by the information you have presented to work out figures..Also you have to appreciate as I've said before, you can't really work it out around offers given to you are I've already mentioned you can't 100% guarantee they will be given to everyone. Logic would then dictate to go on the retail ones offered.

If I knew everything..I would have predicted the lottery, won it and quit my job and lived a happy life..Sadly, that isn't the case..I'm only human.

I never said that the cheapest deal is the best deal. All I've shown is that its wise to look around. If you look at my T-Mobile full pricing out guide, you will see that sometimes it can work out cheaper forking out for the phone whilst other deals I have shown are that of MPD where the costs are similar and not overbearing on the cost of the phone.

Thank you Ninetothesky and Spencer.
I shall take a look at the suggested stores. the problem with the amazon site is that they have the phone for aboutGBP490 i think and it's not available until the 15 Nov plus they say the colour is mocha. is there any other colours for the desire HD? or is there just one colour?
oh does this mean that i can go into a 3 store and just buy the phone? i've been to all other shops eg vodafone, tmobile etc and they say that i've got to take out a contract with them.
I've tried the dabs and BTshop but both say sorry no results matching when i search for Desire HD.
Again, Thank you for your replies.

oops, sorry found it on BT Shop now. went to shop by brands and found it.
but 0 in stock. this phone is so popular, looks like there's none anywhere.
is BT Shop one of the Authorised Dealers for HTC? they are not mentioned on the HTC site unlike amazon, play, expansys etc. does it make a difference getting from an authorised dealer or not?

Thank you Ninetothesky and Spencer.

Hi, i'm jon (spencer mentioned me in his post) try to go down to any Three store and get a DHD without any contract for

oh ya, forgot one more thing spencer, the PAYG also offer free calls from skype. lol.
anyone who get DHD from Three, you need to download Skype from Three (search their website) to be able to make free calls from Skype to Skype. If you download Skype from Android market i'm sorry you cant use Three service to get free calls.

Spencer the link you gave is pay monthly sim card. Mine is PAYG. I think the Add On is their new PAYG deal. Below is the one they gave me:

Three - Pay As You Go - Voice Add-ons

Thank you Spencer and Jon. you're brilliant! I'll have a look at the options you've suggested when i've got days off in two weeks time.
Maybe by then the BT Shop will have some stock :-)
Sorry, i'm really not good at all with online purchasing etc. what's a quidco? please may i know how do i get it? I could maybe used the money saved from the quidco to buy an extra microsdhc storage card :-)
Many thanks guys.

No worries.

If your not in a rush, and the demand will go down once stock starts to come out more, I'd wait and get it that tad cheaper :)

Basically Quidco and TopCashBack are customer cashback sites. In essence, what you do is you sign up to them, log in to your account and search for the merchent (IE, Dabs, or BT Shop) and click the link through that site. When you complete that purchase of that site, you get

Just received an email from MPD. Looks like they are going to deliver the phone on 1st nov.

Dear Customer

Thank you for your order of the stunning New Desire HD.

The demand for this product has been tremendous and unfortunately there has been a delay in getting supplies in the UK. This has meant they are in very short supply everywhere.

The good news is our shipment has been confirmed. We expect to commence deliveries during the week of the 1st of November.

We appreciate that you have been inconvenienced. We apologise on behalf of HTC.

What happens next? We will email you on the 1st of November confirming your delivery date.

Thank you and sorry for the delay.

Just got the same email.

Really fed up with MPD. I ordered in September and was promise twice I would receive this phone by the end of October.

Now they emailing apologising on the behalf of HTC!? MPD should learn not to make fake promises.

Order canceled. Heading elsewhere, can only imagine how poor customer service will be if I ever have any further issues.

Rant over sorry!

I got the same email too..

Uhh really just tempted to head into Three tommorow. Or today actually and get it from them. I'm not waiting another bloody week! This was promised in October by HTC Officially. They should have prepared for this!

Slowbile Phones Direct are a joke, how come so many other places have got it and they havn't.

I too will be heading into town today or tomorrow to see if anyone can price match
