Froyo (2.09.405.8) update - Windows not required

Any idea how much internal phone space we need in order to flash 2.09?

Nevermind, already did it with no problems.

However, I am missing the "Update All" button when I goto Android Market, any ideas what's causing this?
 
i have a new unbranded gsm desire running on at&t
when i try the upgrade i also get invalid model id...do i need to do this gold card thing?
 
Hello everyone.
I will be ordering my HTC Desire from Amazon soon. I have a question to ask. Since this will be my first android (coming from WinMo), this whole rooting and everything seems a bit confusing to me. I want to root my phone as soon as I get it, but will I be able to update it to FroYo? Or can I first update it to FroYo and then unroot it? Which do you guys recommend?
 
Hi guys, i just got an OTA update notification on 2.09 and just wondering if this is straight from HTC and is it going to update to 2.10? Here is what it says the updates are

- Update: Android OS update patch
- Enhanced multi inbox gmail support
- Improved RUS keyboard layout

Yes that should be what you have been waiting for so update!!! It is from HTC because you did the Stock Ruu, so it would not be from anywhere else, I told you it would take a day or so to show up!!! Good luck!!!

EDIT: Success, I'm running 2.10 now with no issues on Wifi or anything else... yet :D
 
will this work on stock rooted 2.09 done with unrevoked? im having terrible problems with the ota and i get a ton of weird error messages no matter how i try it. and do i need a goldcard if i was on telus 2.1 but now im not?

Not sure if it'll work on stock rooted 2.09, but I know for sure you need a goldcard for ANY OTA update once you flash the 2.09 RUU.
 
i didnt flash any RUU, i rooted 2.1 using unrevoked, ran CM6 for a bit and then switched to a stock 2.09 rom
 
hmm that is an interesting process you followed. teppic would prolly be the right person to ask this.

I do have one question though, with any of the stock roms, how do I figure out which one has the English US or English Canada language packs? It appears that in order for the Bluetooth voice dialing to work, it needs the US or canadian language pack, but the WW posted from custom roms version doesnt seem to have it.

Any thoughts?

The WWE files do not have US/CDN english language packs because the WWE has UK english included and there are only 2 carriers who have the Desire on networks in North America (Telus/US Cellular), and the carriers have region specific firmware for their phones that includes local regional language packs.

Having said that, if you really want a US or CDN language pack, just download the free app morelocales2 from the Market and it will add them. Then select the regional language you want and you're good to go.

Personally I've had no problems with the UK settings using my Telus Desire here in Canada on the Rogers network. The only issue I've had is a Rogers network problem with SMS timestamps being 5 hours behind due to a bug in the Rogers system (SMS Time Fix is a free app to fix the issue).

Is there a way to get the voice dial app? When Telus pushed the update out, I did the goldcard method, but would have just waited for Telus had I known the voice dial would be ripped out. I saw a few threads with responses from HTC that is was pulled out due to localization and is only available in the North American market.

I spend alot of time in the car and need to be able to use hands free. I guess there is no way to roll back to the Telus Rom

Edit, found the info from HTC:

Voice dialling is only available in North America due to the limitations of the voice recognition software database that our phone uses. We are researching the possibility of expanding the coverage of the voice dialling feature but we are still analyzing the feasibility and currently have no schedule to relay to you now. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
 
I noticed one more thing.

When I make calls, the 3g/H symbol next to the bars disappears, but after I hang up a G icon shows up next to the bars (assuming GPRS) which eventually turns back into a 3g/H icon.

Anyone else see this?

i have gone threw step by step about a 1000 times on how to make a goldcard and the PB99IMG.zip and every other way of debranding my phone, i have tried 4 different micro sd cards 1gig and 8gig sandisk, 8gig samsung, and a 2gig pny, made goldcards with all still no dice on the debranding, i wanted to get a kingston 2gig micro sd from bestbuy but they dont sell it anymore :( Now im assuming im doing something wrong with the goldcard process, i have followed the process from the unlockr.com and from this site as well which both are the same process, i have download dozens of diff ruu.exe and PB99IMG.zips from the repository none work. cant even flash a custom rom. If anyone know how to get this done please please let me know i don't care how complicated it is as long as it works.

Well you cant use rom manager (this is an official rom to turn back to stock) so it has to run from PC.

Sounds like your goldcard is incorrect if you're getting that error.

yea sorry new to posting, i just ment that i couldent use rom manager to use a custom rom either, i rather go to stock but i was trying everything.

" What you're doing wrong is you're flashing files meant for the HTC Desire GSM, on your HTC Desire CDMA..That's dangerous..Had you flashed a radio this way, your Desire would have been permanently bricked!

Check for files meant for bravoc.."

still looking for a cdma stock repository, know of any?
