Anyone know of a "process explorer" app for android that would show what processes are maxing out the processor

I'm seeing intermittent sluggishnes while scrolling or opening new apps tbut haven't been able to work out which app is causing it.

I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this

advice appreciated

anyone have any idea about this

i guess i'm looking for a task monitor (not task killer - i know how @lekky feels about task killers) to work out which errant app is maxing out the processor?

it can be infuriating sluggish at time - i just can't work out what's causing it
 
thanks guys ... and now for the dumb question ... is "system panel" a 3rd party app or somewhere in settings?
 
System Panel is great - I have the paid version (one of the few I've actually paid for).

It also comes with good documentation on how to deal with and how to find applications that are spacking out your CPU. It also warns you against killing tasks, which of course I never do unless I'm in a really, really bad mood.

Search for system panel on the Android Market - I highly recommend the paid version. :cool:
 
OK Guys - finally help me out with reading this

my cpu is at 100%
roughly 40% system - 60% user 0% nice 0% idle

flicking thru the installed apps and system apps I don't see any one in particular spiking the cpu usage the one using the most is the system panel itself

but if I go into any of these they only seem to be using small average percentages of the cpu

any advice - too many apps installed?
if so is it possible to set any of these to not be running all the time but only when started by me?


also what does exclude do? - does it disable the app or does it stop the system panle from monitoring it?

and how does the compare feature work?

Go to settings and enable monitoring. Then let that run for a few hours (use the phone as you normally would). Then if you go to history you will be able to see your CPU usage over time, and if you select an application you can see how much CPU that app has used and compare it with the total.

The problem app should then be easy to spot graphically. :-)
 
Another thumbs up for system panel.

Had to go into AppBrain to download this the other day as something was draining the battery at an alarming rate,

Once installed it was clear the culprit was...............

AppBrain :eek:

Once force Quited all was good again.
 
not getting this - I can see no application that has massive cpu usage

the cpu is maxed out all the time at 100% (all between system and user)

but if I add up all the apps and system apps it comes to maybe 25% ??

after a reboot I have 90% idle

not sure here to go from here?
 
I'm really digging this "system panel" app - well laid out - great system overview

unfortunately it's not solving my issue

after a reboot phone is fine - reasonable CPU usage

but after a few hours ... and I still don't know why - it hits 99 -100%

if i go through all the apps and system processes nothing is using excessive CPU

so then if I start to close first inactive, then background then active apps

it's still at 100%

so my problem has to be a system app doesn't it?

although the CPU usage breakdown is roughly system 40% user 60% (this even after killing all active apps)

any ideas anyone?

I'm struggling to offer advice on this one. My only suggestion would be to do a factory reset, but this should only really be done as a last resort in most cases.

You've check all your syncs and things haven't you?
 
yeah good thinking - I should disable all syncs and see if it still happens

of course it's running perfectly since i last re-booted it 4 hours ago
 
I've recently started experiencing a similar problem. Battery is draining 50% in 2 hours. SystemPanel shows 30% cpu when the phone is idle (screen off) with 'system' using 10% of that. As soon as I use the phone usage drops. Partial wake usage doesn't show anything out of the ordinary so I'm at a bit of a loss.

A factory reset solved it for a few days but around lunchtime today it happened again (can't recall doing anthing that might have triggered it).

I'm wondering if its a recent app update. Going to do another reset tonight :( and leave it totally vanilla for the weekend, then install apps one at a time.

If it continues I'll call HTC as its just come back from having the motherboard replaced.

but I'm pretty sure my issue isn't with installed apps as I forced closed all user apps and the cpu usage didn't go down at all

sounds kinda similiar to what I'm dealing with - no resolution though

it's been fine the last few hours - low battery consumption - no cpu spikes - not sure what is the cause
 
after running system panel for a few days -

I think my problem is relating to a system process called INIT - no idea what it does but it seems to be the process responsible for maxing out the CPU

a quick google search tells me I'm not the only person with the issue

Android 2.2 (FRF85B) /init process always eating 100% CPU - Android Help

but there doesn't seem to be a work around yet

I've installed OSMonitor and have an icon that shows me when the CPU is jammed at 100% (a reboot fixes) and it could be another 2 days before I see it again.

Can't find a reason that triggers it though - will keep monitoring and posting here just in case anyone else has the same issue.
 
I think my problem was down to a wifi on/off widget that didn't play well with the Desire (to be fair the developer did say it was for the Droid). I uninstalled it and everything, fingers crossed, seems OK now - though I am rather paranoid about battery usage at present.
 
well if that doesn't work for you

I can recommend both os monitor and system panel -2 excellent apps for troubleshooting problems
 
Sytem panel I've had for a while - if it were a button I'd have worn it out by now - but os monitor looks really useful. Thanks for that.
