Accessories Otter box defender

Hi guys , does anyone own the Otter Box defender for the HTC desire HD ?
i like to know if its a good case ! And where in Australia i can get one !

Now that looks absolutely drathot! what comes in the box bobby ? and like how damage proof does it make your phone ? 'cause I'm terrified of breaking the screen.
 
Bobby, any chance you could lob some photos up? I'm tempted by one but wondering what the back is like and whether it'll work with my Clingo!
 
You get the dual piece case. A silicone soft inner shell, and the hard plastic outer shell. Also a pack of screen protectors with a cleaning cloth. It fits so good you would think it's all part of the phone. The bottom also has a cover with a hole just for the mic. You can access the ports very easy, and the buttons for the volume and power are easy to push. The back is nice and even, and the phone lays flat. The camera is well protected. To me the best part is the soft silicone inner cover actually covers the sides of the aluminum by the screen where normally you could feel the edge if you swiped your finger too far. It fully covers the edges all the way to the glass. Very nice tight fit. It seems like if you dropped it there would be no damage unless it landed on something directly hitting the screen. The side come up enough that even if it landed flat with the screen side down on the floor nothing could hit the screen. Here are some pictures. The one side by side with another phone (with pink edges) is a Nexus One in a Case-Mate Tough Case. As you can see the Desire HD is actually thinner. I love it.

Thanks for the swift review bobby. I think it might well be worth the money paying that little extra for a decent case, none of this 'generic, no brand, silicone crap' from ebay. :)
 
I hate cases, but the Desire HD feels like it needs one because of the gaps in the panels on the back, and I think it would break if I dropped it.

Cases like this usually look awful and they make the whole experience of using the phone worse, because of how they feel in your hand.

I think the Otterbox actually adds to the look of the phone though, especially around the back!

Whats it like using the phone with the case on? Does it change the size of the phone much or make it feel any different?

Do you think the phone would fit on a charging dock without removing the cover?
 
It feels very natural. Just the right thickness for me. Better grip all the way around. I'm not sure about the charging dock as I haven't received mine yet, but the bottom has a flap that you open to access the charging port and headphone jack, so it may be a problem since you don't remove it, but just open it. The case was easy enough to get on. The hard plastic outer shell actually kind of snapped into place once I got it about halfway on, so I don't know how hard it will be to get off. I tried to start to take it off, and it seems like if you start at the top, it would just pop off when you get it to a certain angle. Very solid construction all the way around. :-)

Got it from OtterBox directly. Here: HTC Desire HD Commuter Series Cases // OtterBox.Com

They seem a little slow with updating their site for shipping info, but if you have any questions you can email them. I did when it showed "not shipped" for like three days, but then the fourth day it was delivered. If I check it now, it stills says not shipped. I emailed them, and they replied with the tracking number, and another time just to make sure I received it.
 
Just ordered from Mobile Fun, looks like they'd come about the same time.

Who is that with? Otterbox website shows postage rates to Australia at $8.

I see Mobilefun also are advertising the Otterbox defender case coming soon, which is not on the Otterbox website yet!
 
Thanks for a good review and even better photos BobbyPhoenix! I just ordered mine, this case is really good looking, good quality case. I had Otterbox defender series on my old iPhone 3G and it was really kick ass case, maybe for daily use little too bulky, but really protected and secure case!

@Bobbyphoenix do you work for Otterbox :-p joking aside, the thought of making this phone any bigger worries me, does it still sit in your pocket Ok?

Funny. No I don't work for them, but I do like letting people know about great products that can make other products better. With that said, it fits easier in the pocket with the case on. The case makes the back smooth and even, so it slides in and out easier. Before the camera would catch on my clothes like when I would push it in my pocket the lens sticking out caught the pocket lip. Now it's butter. It's not really that much bigger. The added size helps the feel of the phone for me.
 
OK so I'm playing Angry Birds, and the volume buttons are annoying me, so I decided to trim them. Well I must say I'm glad I did. Not only is the case perfectly even all around now, the buttons are still very easy to push and use. I trimmed both the volume buttons, and the power button. I used a razor blade to trim them even with the case on, and then I took the case off, and used sand paper to smooth any rough edges the razor blade made. I like the result very much.

Well figure I may as well chime in. I got my Otterbox commuter yesterday and I'm more than happy with it. Fits perfectly, feels sturdy (as others have suggested it'll take quite a shock or something hitting the screen directly to do any damage). Just looking at my phone now makes me feel alot less paranoid about it breaking it, I now feel comfortable about just placing it on a table like you would a normal phone rather than gently easing the thing down like I used to (between the flat edged screen and the camera I always used to get nervous about scratching her). My only issue is I underestimated how dusty my room was when I applied the screen protector so I have a couple bits of grit/dust and a tiny hair on the inside of the screen! My own fault tho and its not like the otterbox screen protectors are especially expensive, tho otterbox dont appear to be stocking them spearately yet so I may grab some MFX ones for cheap to see how they compare. (Anyone tried the MFX screen yet by anychance BTW?).

My only gripes (and they are small) are that the rubber lip around the bottom of the screen (near where the flap for the headphone and USB slots is) can lift up slightly if you catch it with your finger as its not as firmly attatched as the rest of the edges (due to the usb ascess flap), and as a previous poster suggested the rubber buttons stick out a little from the case (tho this has yet to annoy me enough to want to take a knife to them yet). Otherwize its pretty much perfect. I'd certainly echo the claims that it makes the DHD sit in your hand better, the extra bulk is in just the right places so it actually sits in your palm rather than having to grip the edges as I did with the naked phone. Not that there was anything wrong with the way I had to hold the naked phone mind but I find the otterbox more comfortable.
