Looks Like I'll Be Ditching My Epic For Now Anyway...

i went into a Sprint store the day before yesterday and asked when is the epic getting 2.2. He told me sometime in December.
 
man still scratching my head about that bra thing.
Why would a guy post pictures of his bra? :confused: HA!

least you'll still have an EPic when 2.2 comes around.
 
There are a couple of froyo leaks on xda if you are into flashing roms... They appear to be really nice builds from what I read. The latest firmware is dk05
 
Yeah.... Samsung hasn't improved its reputation with Galaxy S at all. Sucks that I was wrong. I trusted them as well :(
 
Me too!!! But i love my epic more then life itself so i will wait it out, or until the new HTC Evo Shift or whatever the hell they call it comes out!!!
 
Yea, i was thinking of getting that new htc slider joint when it was released. Samsung just did the typical samsung thing. That is play around with updates and dragging along. I dont understand it at times. But i have always been a htc fan/user.

For how long they're taking, the 2.2 update for the Epic better be near perfect. My wife still likes her phone, but that the gps is still broken is starting to really irk her. From the Moment, I've probably been more forgiving of Samsung than most. With updates released after EOL, I thought Samsung was trying to change its evil ways (baby). Unfortunately, the last fix for lockup seems to have done nothing. Even if the update had worked, it was nothing more than a legal CYA designed to make 911 calls after lockup but not improve the user experience one iota.

There really is no excuse for the Galaxy S phones not being released with 2.2 and it's almost inconceivable that a company with Samsung's resources has taken so long to update them.

I've been wondering what the issue is about that. Are they over extended? Do they have too many models of their devices, especially those not yet released to the stores?

Exactly, Its embarrassing that a huge company like Samsung can't get there act together for something as simple as a software upgrade on there top tier phones.

i think that their tv and appliance line-up has priority over mobile. At lease it seams that way.

I am not samsung fanboy but the only thing they ever said about froyo on Epic was that it would be before the end of the year. with most updates that means December to February.

The dissatisfaction cause by people making up dates of September or October from thin air and posting them here has more to do with the percetpotion of lateness.

It is not late and the Epic especially will be getting more than froyo, it will be getting non froyo firmware updates related to Sprint's (not samsung) rushing the Epic to market to deal with its needs from Evo shortages.

Bravo! I can't agree more with you.

I think that we should all be patient and just enjoy what we can do, and not worry for what we can't (as of right now) because later on we will be able to do even more.

Epic is the first phone that has captured me in long time, I'm enjoying its performance on web, network, apps and games. It's a great phone, and once Foryo arrives to it will be even better.

I will say that I would have been really P.O'd if they released 2.2 with a buggy GPS. THAT would have demonstrated that Samsung had no real interest in supporting their product long-term. The fact that early betas indicated that it still wasn't fixed was not a good sign. This later release date sounds more encouraging.

The real bad sign is that Samsung relesed the phone with bad GPS software in the first place. The next real bad thing is almost 4 months later the big electronics giant still has not fixed it nor have they been able it get 2.2 to work right on the handset. SAMSUNG FAIL.

And you know this for a fact?

Samsungs phone division is many times larger than HTC in its entirety. They should have more than enough resourses available to have their flagship device fitted out with the latest OS on or near when their much smaller competitor is able to do the same. I went through this with the Moment, where Samsung released a buggy device then did late and half assed updates. They didn't even have an update tool available for the initial cl14 update and made users return to the store, very 1999 of them. Back then I made jokes about the division responsible for the Moment consisting of a teenager and a couple of random passerby's. I guess they moved that team over to the Galaxy S? They may still be on track for the 2.2 update based on their publisised release date. Considering where the devise should be in their priority list, 2.2 is already late. There is absolutely no excuse releasing the Epic with a broken GPS! That huge bug should have been found and squashed before release....period!

Yup, exactly.
 
With all of the GPS problems being mentioned, I tried the GPS on my phone. Everything seemed to work fine with the driving directions via GPS. Are there any other tests that I should run?
