Root Which Froyo ROM to choose?

Just a few questions for those who have used Axura

1. If I install the Axura rom, will I still be able to play the Avatar file. I like to show off the screen with the movie and don't want to lose it?

For question number 1, I know eagles20015 said you should be fine, but I don't think so. I don't think the movie will play anymore with the custom ROM. Why don't you ask Master himself, he is the developer of the ROM and I just noticed he joined this forum.

Oh wait i just noticed eagles20015 installed Axura. Hey eagles20015, Avatar still plays for sure?

i dont have it anymore but i dont see why it wouldnt play the video file if you look for it in your files app

I may be wrong but if you are changing the kernal and installing a custom rom, I don't think the movie would play anymore, it wouldn't know it's a vibrant. I think the roms are based off i9000. I don't know, that's just a guess, I might be wrong. To me it made sense though.

I've have not had a problem playing avatar with a custom rom. You will lose the avatar icon that was on the stock rom but the movie should still play fine. The movie is located on the external SD card.

Correct. I installed Axura over the weekend, so far so good. Just browsed to my external SD card and opened Avatar from there, works fine.

I like the OS. There are no dealbreakers so far, and the only thing I've found is when enabling and disabling bluetooth it gives an error, but the error doesn't affect anything. Just hit the button and all is still ok.

OS is much snappier than the T-Mobile 2.1. Only thing I've noticed is sometimes the 3G signal isn't as strong as it should be, or it even switches over to Edge while at home...something that never happened before. This is not all the time, though.

Keep in mind the rom you are using is a leaked rom. The official 2.2 upgrade has not been released for the Vibrant. Some bugs should be expected. In some cases re-flashing will help. I don't think it will help in your case as I've read similar complaints.

The JI6 modem can be flashed from the 2.1 OS, replacing the modem in the 2.2 OS. I know with the 2.1 OS most people preferred using the JI2 modem as it used less battery. In my case the JI6 cut my battery life in half. It has the best reception and data speed.

Good luck

You have had absolutely no problems with your SD cards both internal and external?
that seems to be a major problem with all the froyo roms.

how's your gps with the new rom?

I flashed the bionix fusion 1.2 stock kernel and the gps is amazing. compared to the T-Mobile stock JI6 I was on before.

There is a fix for the SD access issue. I have no problems moving files from my computer to either internal or external card. The fix is in the XDA forums. If you have trouble locating it let me know and I will see if I can point you in the right direction.
I believe Team Whiskey came up with the fix.

Running Aux 2.0.5 and its almost as close to perfect as possible. Even has the VOODOO so you can do the VOODOO is you CHOSETO

Installed Axura, same problem as you, was running mostly edge. With someones suggestion at xda, just used ODIN to install the JI6 modem, and 3G signal once again is strong!

You took the plunge? Always thought you would wait for official version but thats good for us. You give real good info. So what can you tell us about it? Anything real negative about Axura asside from the EDGE problem that you seemed to fix? Is your phone faster and is battery life better?

Are you running 2.0.5?

Ya, I decided I'm not going to wait for T-Mobile to release it, especially since now Gingerbread will be out soon.

I am happy with Axura. My only complaints are very minor. I don't like the the dialer he uses, it is very ugly, you can see a pic below. I like the Android Keyboard, he took that away, but it is easy to add back on my own. Currently using the HTC keyboard, pics below. I don't like the transparent pull down notification bar, I don't like seeing my home screen below it, makes reading my notifications kinda annoying. Also I don't like the default font, but I can change that, no big deal. All my complaints are minor, and can easy be changed.

Performance. Super fast! I am not running a lag fix, and don't intend to. My gallery no longer freezes, all my pictures pop up instantly. The transitions are beautiful, I like how he made windows pop open. Performance does slow down once you restore all your apps. Also my Quadrant scores dropped by 100 pts when I reloaded all my aps.

Battery life? I'm the wrong person to ask. I just accepted that these phones have crappy battery life, and I don't really pay attention to it anymore. I just always try to charge it. One thing I will say though, the battery indicator he has provided in the notification bar is very accurate!

Below are some screen captures using ShootMe. Notice the keyboard, the dialer, the different lock screens. You can use the epic, pin lock, glass, etc.

The ROM doesn't include touchwiz launcher. I'm using LauncherPro.

The background you see, that gray background with the waves, is actually a live wallpaper that I've been using for some time now. It is the PERFECT compliment to Axura, it matches the ROM's theme perfectly. Master should include it in his upcoming updates. The name of the live wallpaper is "wave Live Wallpaper" Lite by Crazy Zen Lab.

Here is my homescreen, this time I changed the live wallpaper to "white" waves instead of the black waves.

Pull down notification, notice how it is transparent. It is still beautiful, just sometimes makes reading notifications annoying.

Epic unlock screen, I like this a lot.

I use this one, I prefer an easy 4 digit number pin to unlock my phone.

You can enter a pin with letters and numbers to unlock your phone.

Dialer, sorry I don't like the look of this, intend to load the stock dialer as soon as I get it to work.

Very nice. I ve just noticed some have said their battery liife is much better using Axura.

I havent tried installing the ROM yet. Dont feel 100% confident as i did using a Jailbreak , but i will do it soon. Just wondering if we can update to Gingerbread with Axura installed if it miraculously comes out for us. Rumor is they may go to GB and skip 2.2 altogether for us but who knows.

So if you arent using a lag fix, you didnt use OCLF to do your install? Did you use Z4Root , to root the phone first? Sorry for the questions but you are very thorough with your info so your a good one to ask.

I haven't noticed any increased battery life, I guess I'll try to actively pay attention to it, and I'll let you know.

I did not use OCLF, I didn't use any lag fix. The ROM is very smooth and fast, I don't think any lag fix is necessary.

To root the phone. I downloaded the update.zip package, put it onto my internal sd card. Restarted my phone in recovery mode, and applied the update. Took maybe 30 seconds and I was rooted.

Next, I used titanium backup to completely backup all my aps, I have tons of aps, so this was very useful.

I also backed up my stock ROM using Rom Manager.

Used ROM manager to install Axura, and boom I was done.

In terms of future updates by T-Mobile, you can easily go back to stock. First you need to flash a 2.1 ROM WITH A 2.1 KERNEL!!! You can not go from 2.2 down to 2.1 without the proper 2.1 Kernel, otherwise you may brick your phone! Once you downgrade from Axura 2.2, to one of the 2.1 ROM/Kernal combos, i.e. one from Team Whiskey. You can then reload your stock 2.1 backup that you made using the ROM manager. You can even unroot. The phone will be totally stock, and you can continue to get future T-Mobile updates.

I added another photo above of my home-screen, this time with white waves as my live white paper.

I have 2.0.5 ready to go, i just havent ran it from ROM manager yet.

I was reading along in XDA ansd saw from posts today in the Axura section that 2.0.6 is going to be released tomorrow per a tweet from Master so i am going to wait to see what additions are in that one. Hopefully the 3G fix is a part of it.

I don't think he will change the modem.bin. The current one he is using is actually from a newer baseband. However, for me at least, the newer baseband has a weaker signal, and downgrading to JI6's modem helped a lot. It was a really simple fix.

I just setup my phone the way I like it, now I have to update to 2.0.6, errr! Wonder what changes he has made in the new release.

LOL...now 2.1 will be out later this week and he said that has a big update.
2.0.6 is not a big update.

Hey all,

Given the success that most people are having using custom ROM's on their vibrant, I'd like to do so as well. I don't really see a benefit of waiting for and using T-Mobile's version if the current custom one's work just fine (and since I really don't care about having TouchWiz or not).

Having said that, which one would you all recommend? I hear great things about Bionix 1.5, Macnut R12, and TeamWhiskey's Onyx R4.2 (no TouchWiz, which I hear is a good thing especially if you have a decent alternative like LauncherPro).

I really don't know the true differences between them all, so any help is greatly appreciated.

i'm using teamwhiskey's R4.2 obsidian (i didn't try the 5.0 since its beta) ever since they released it and so far no problems!!! plus it comes with ULF which is awesome!!!! but i heard axuria is little bit better than obisidan (i'm going to try in couple days also but let me know also!)

Sombionix mentioned that Obsidian v6 should be out soon, I expect within the next day or two. Basically skipping an official v5 and going to v6.

I tried Axura and liked it; it's very visually appealing. I found Onyx/Obsidian to run a bit more smoothly on my Vibrant however and went back to it.

I think in the end it's more a matter of preference than anything. As far as Axura being "better," to me that's very subjective. Both Axura and Obsidian are excellent ROM's.
