Root Which Froyo ROM to choose?

Now there is another new one called BlackHole. I want to try that too. Looks really cool how you can install it from ROM manager and choose what you want in it from there as well. Seems real simple but after reading the thread at XDA, it dos have some bugs and he is hoping to get it all fixed by Saturday.

I like the concept of BlackHole, but I don't know that I'll get to it anytime soon. Nero from Team Whiskey has me hooked right now! :D

I'm really digging Team Whiskey's Nero 2 (JL1-based, no TWiz) combined with Eugene's Super IO (No Lagfix Needed) JL-based kernel.

Very fast, and everything just.... Seems to work.

When I try to update with the Axura 2.1, I use rom Rom Manager to update from sd card, I can choose the Axura file and it reboots into recovery and finds the file, opens it and then says "update in progress" were it just hangs there. I press and hold the power button and it goes back into recovery were I have it reboot but goes back to factory rom.
I have a Samsung Vibrant rooted and the zip file I downloaded is "Axura21VE.zip"(also used OCLF to root)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You're better off flashing the ROM through ClockworkMod recovery than doing it through ROM Manager.

It's possible you got a bad download. Download it again if flashing through Clockwork doesn't work.

No issues at all? Even little ones?

Problems, problems....

Screens move too fast for me to look up from the phone to catch what's on TV?

No?

Hmm....

Flash Video streams fast enough with both Flash and Skyfire that I can get live video from NFL.com and Justin.TV, thus making my computer uneeded?

Not a problem?

Hmm....

OH! OH! Got one: They didn't remove the annoying T-Mo Shutdown sound.

;->

Seriously, though, I'm really liking it. I have no need to update to Nero 3 yet.

I drove for over two hours on Saturday, and other than the GPS taking it's normal sweet time (IE: Until I got 3 blocks AWAY from my home... I swear this place is a blackhole for GPS) to lock, it did get locked solid and worked the entire time.

WiFi calling no longer has that "too quiet" issue that the other 2.2 ROMs had

With no lagfix, the screens and menus fly (Other than orientation changes, which seem to be the same as always.... Which SEEMS slow compared to everything else on the phone)

Bluetooth works both with my headset as well as my car.

Yeah, for me.... Can't really find any major issues, and I'm not expecting a miracle to happen where I get instant GPS at home (since I've NEVER had that with any device)

Okay, so first let me say that without ever having done anything like this I just rooted and flashed my Vibrant yesterday without any problems what so ever. Thanks to you guys here and the guys over at XDA the process was simple, easy and safe. I had this same choice to make as far as what ROM to choose, so I got a few of them, and tried them out. Then I found this. [ROM][FROYO-JK2/JK6]?? AXURA Vibrant Edition ?? [Devs4Android][2.2][12/13/10] | Devs4Android

If I am not mistaken this is the newest version of Axura released yesterday. Get it. Love it.

Just wondering if anyone has tried Eugenes newest ROM yet. Called Ginger Clone 2.2 Final. Just came out 2 days ago (13th)

[ROM] Eugene's Ginger Clone 2.2 Final *12/13/2010* - xda-developers

Looks interesting and i dont want to flash every ROM i see but would love feedback if you have and would try out those w/ rave reviews.

Im still running Axura 2.1 and want to try 2.2 just havent yet. The 2.1 is a little laggy on my phone now. Not bad but enough to bug me. Im not running a lag fix.

Eugene's 2.2's and Team Whiskey's 2.2s are inherently fast to begin with, without lag fixes (This phone now is faster than any 2.1 or 2.2 I've ever used)

Add to that Eugene's "Super IO Kernel", and screens just pop up so quick you do a double take the first couple of times.

If I'm not mistaken, "Ginger Clone" already uses Super IO.

I'm on Team Whiskey's site, I see no Nero....

Gonna toy with my phone a bit over Christmas and since you've such luck, thought I'd try this route among a few others (perhaps Axura and GingerClone that VegasTouch just posted).

i've been in the IT biz since windows 3.1 ran on dos 5. that said, i just bought my first 'smart' phone a little over a month ago.. i chose the samsung vibrant because of the hardware specs, but quickly discovered that it had many small, glitchy problems. this past tuesday morning a buddy of mine helped me root the phone and get up and running on froyo. i'm using the axura rom and i think it is very good. the phone now operates like i expected it to when i purchased it. it is clear that all of the complaints i had with the phone were due to the eclair software. i'm very happy with my phone today.

Just tried to use Odin for the first time and it didnt recognize my phone when in download mode. Not sure why or what next.

Troubleshooting:

1) do you have the proper windows drivers for your phone?
[installing kies will provide the proper drivers]

2) were you in download mode? NOT RECOVERY!
[to get to download, start with phone off, hold down volume up/down, don't touch power, plug in usb into phone (other end connected to computer)]

PS... running stock JL4 since it was released, and it is fantasic. Feels like it is ready for release!

Havent tried JL4. Not sure what it is asside from a modem. So many ROM's it is hard to keep up. Axura really works well for me thugh 2.1 has a bit of lag. Want to upgrade to 2.2.
Wouldnt mind trying Ginger clone either but i keep reading how Axura is the best as far as being stable and quick. As long as im comfortable using Odin to go back to stock, then i will maybe try more ROM's. We arent going to get any from Samsung which is BS.
We will get a ROM of Gingerbread before Samsung gets us Froyo.

Concerning the item in bold, stock JL4 ROM was taken from samsung directly! It showed up on their servers, and someone snatched it!

It is totally stock, tmo boot up and all, touchwiz. etc.

From the Nexus S? XDA has a guy (supercurio?)that already got GB working on a Vibrant but he has a ways to go.

From the Nexus S? Huh? No, I meant stock JL4, was on Samsungs servers, and someone snatched it. It is totally stock with T-mobiles custamization. Basically, I think, it is over-the-air ready. It's like what you would get, if T-Mobile sent it to you. None, of the devs modified it, its stock samsung/tmobile froyo 2.2!

btw, vegas you use xda right? lets keep in touch there, I don't plan on being as active here anymore.

Ah, ok gotcha. Yeah i go to XDA. Mostly read but i do post every now and then.

OK, i used Odin to get back to stock. However, i used the JKD file and it went back to where it was when i bought it. Is there a way to go back to stock without losing a lot of my contacts, Apps and all that stuff? This is a pain in the ass just to go flash other ROM's.

EDIT*

I just reinstalled Titanium backup and everything is still there that was there before though most are in red now since i have stock 2.1...i guess ill flash a ROM and see if it turns those reds back to green. Kinda of confusing.
