Help 421 Connection limit reached for your IP address

Hi,

I wonder if this is Android, my carrier, HTC or ISP, maybe someone would know.

I use Froyo 2.2 on HTC Desire. When I connect via WIFI and use the HTC MAIL app for my POP3 mail accounts, I can send emails no problem.

When I am connected via Mobile 3G, I cannot send emails, it gives an error saying it can't send the mail and check settings.

When I check setting, Incoming works fine, then Outgoing when I press NEXT it gives me the following error:

Your outgoing server response: 421 Connection limit reached for your IP address.

I did try Port 25 and Port 587, 587 works better (I think 25 was refusing connection), but I still get that error.
I can receive emails no problem using 3G.

I searched the web and only I could find is that this error is temporary and just try later. Non sense for me, as it works fine all the time with WIFI and even if I try later with 3G it never works.

Any ideas?

it looks like your mail server is overloaded
is that a gmail account?

No, it's Videotron ISP in Canada, simple non-SSL (username+PW only) POP3 with SMTP.

I tested it. I connected WIFI, sent email-worked. I then disconnected, connected 3G, sent email-did not work. I reconnected WIFI, sent email-worked.

I would be surprised it is always overloaded when I am in 3G, unless the 3G connection is somehow always overloaded, but everything else works, internet, google, twitter, etc...


Videotron is my ISP and TELUS my carrier. So it may be either, I guess?

No it didn't work. I have exactly that setup already. I tested the IMAP too and same problem.

So I will call Videotron.

Ok I found it.

If anyone has that problem, this should do it.

If you use a different provider for your mobile phone than email/internet, you may need to use the mobile phone carrier's SMTP OUTGOING server.

In case of TELUS vs Videotron, you need to use TELUS' outgoing server.

smtp.telus.net
No login required.
Port 587

Done.
Works.

Well, this works, but not totally. lol

My Incoming is fine, both in 3G and WIFI.
But my Outgoing setup needs to be different whether I am in 3G or WIFI mode. One setup does not work in both modes. In 3G I use the smtp.telus.net config and in WIFI I have to use the relais.videotron.ca config, first one has no login required, second one has a login required.

This is frustrating. I don't know what causes that, but I guess using a different network to send the mail requires a different authentication. The problem is, I don't think the standard HTC Mail app supports different Outgoing server setups depending on the connection mode.

Or, my ISP (videotron) restricts sending email using a different smtp then their own. Looks comon, I have read posts elsewhere. The mobile provider restricts use of other smtps (therefore it's not working through wifi) and my internet provider restricts use of other smtps, therefore it's not working in 3G. What a mess...


So has anyone had that problem and what did you do?

I have the same issue ... videotron says it does not know why and say they have many other clients when using port 587 that claims it works fine.

telus is no help ...

Are you using outgoing authentication?
