Help x10-debranding or updating?

I was trying to debrand my x10a from here

NotEvenGood~YetCloseToGreat: How To Debrand Xperia X10a/X10i and Root!

because this was the simplest method on net as i m a newbie to android.
i got an x10a from Kansas city, brought it here in India. It was having at&t lock and 1.6 droid.I tried to unlock using google but there was no way to get it done without registering and paying to some websites.
So instead i got it unlocked by spending 1500 INR at a mobile shop nearby.
Next was to update it to 2.1(i knew it was out as 1 of my friends friend did it)
Tried out for 2-3 hours and came to know that first of all i should replace at&t's firmware with company's firmware(is it same as ROM?).So i was thinking that i have to first debrand it then update it.

So i followed the guide for debranding in above link.I also downloaded some generic x10a.rar from the link ..

Hotfile.com: One click file hosting: 2.1_2.0.A.0.504_GENERIC_x10A.rar

so everything went well. After completing when i started the phone it got stuck at a screen that showed some camera icon and some arrow pointing towards phone icon.I remained patient and after 4-5 mins the phone started.

Surprised by the straight swap bar unlock instead of curved one,i went to check the firmware and to my utter amazement it red 2.1!!!

So there it goes....was trying to debrand it and unknowingly updated it(which was planned later)....
so what did i do here exactly?the phone is working good now...

should i also root it following the same link?

i really hate the blue background color in settings menu, timescape, dialpad & phonebook etc.Can i change it to black somehow?without rooting?

Hi.

It reads 2.1 at the start of the link, which should have been the first clue, and having just visted the link it clearly states it's 2.1
so what did i do here exactly?
You've installed 2.1 generic FW.
should i also root it following the same link?
Just search the Market for Z4Root, install, run and root.

No, you need to root to make those kinds of changes.

Hi x10i user...

thanks for your reply
i rooted with z4root.apk,installed titanium backup
now how do i change the default blue background color?
I have seen many threads on it but they re REALLY so confusing and LONG!!!!
i also saw your post in which we use android sdk ,i downloaded it,sort of updated it(took so long)....but now what?i dont get anything beyond this...

Hi.

The easiest and quickest way to change is to install a theme, I recommend the X10 Res Mods Theme :D, or learn how to mod and create the look you want.

Learn how, and start using it. [GUIDE] ADB, Fastboot, and Nandroid for Noobs Take the time to read such guides and everything becomes much simpler. :)
