What firmware should my new Captivate have?

Okay-66

Newbie
About a week ago, I bought a new Samsung Captivate. Someone mentioned to me that AT&T is oushing out a new update and one can verify this from the "baseband version". My current version is I897UCJF6. Now, what version should I have? I need to call AT&T to push that out to me.

I have gone to software update and receive an error message saying the device cannot communicate with the server.

The latest baseband version ends in JH7, not JF like you said, are you sure you typed that right?

As for the failed communication, go to Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, hit menu key, select Filter, click Running, then look for Device Management, select that, click "Clear Data" Restart your phone, wait a few minutes, then try checking for updates again.

And if that doesn't work, try a hard reset. Sucks, but only a week in you could probably handle it - a week into owning mine I realized this communication error and it was the only thing that solved it for me (actually, it took two hard resets, but who knows why). Since then I've had no problems checking for updates.

Yes, i have checked. My baseband version is ***CJF6. I have tried the update on air and it will not connect with AT&T. Unfortunately, after you do that, you have to wait for another 24 hrs.

I tried the hard reset...taking off tha battery and it did not work. ATT (technical support) has checked my my IMEI number three times already. I am lost with AT&T.

Try the steps I said above. Those steps clear the update cache and allow you to reconnect and check for updates without waiting 24 hours.

They might work sometimes, or for some people, but it did nothing for me and I tried it multiple times, switched the phone on/off, etc. I had to hard reset using the factory reset (twice) before I could connect problem free to check for updates.
