Got My Vibrant Today!

So I'm new to the forums and just got my Vibrant today, I was wondering what I should know and what I could do to take full advantage of its awesomeness! :D

If you like having notifications install "NoLed." You can download it from the Android Market.

To install after downloading, you should place the widget on one of your homescreens then turn it on. Then go into settings and customize it.

Also install "Wheres My Droid." Great app if you misplace your phone and need to make it ring.

Also do what Vegas said. Root it, and install some sort of 2.2 ROM on it.

Congrats on getting a pretty awesome phone :)

Apps I recommend: Lookout(Anti-Virus protection)
Games I recommend: Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, Pocket God.

P.S. - In case this ever comes up when your talking to someone:

No, you do not need an advanced task killer because you can kill apps by going to Task Manager(hold down home key)

And while we are on the subject you don't need to download an apk installer because the Vibrant installs apk files just fine.

Welcome to the forum and Congratulations on your recent acquisition. I just received a warranty replacement with a build date of 10/20/10 and I now have none of the complaints about this phone you will find all over this forum.

The first thing I would do is install the Power Control Widget on your home screen and get the AnyCut app from the market. It's free and will allow you to place instant dial shortcuts on your your home page or access most phone functions with a single click.

Enjoy your new phone. ;)

Seriously? Is your battery behaving differently?

Where do I find my build date?

The battery usage seems slightly better than on my previous phone. It could be that is imagined because everything else works so well. The build date will be on your box or you may be able to get it when you register your phone with Samsung.

is anti-virus app needed for android? I thought being linux it was pretty safe.. any signs to look for? Performance degredations and stuff?

pocket legends is pretty good game as well.. (so far.. haven't really messed with it that much..)

Just so you know, if you have any trouble with your proximity sensor, it is because your usb door is open. Close it when you're done charging.

My understanding is that we are safe for the most part and Lookout is unnecessary. A far bigger threat would be apps which intrude into info that they really don't need to do their designed task. These can be avoided by not installing them.

Hmm, first ive heard of this. I never close my USB door for some reason...lol, and i dont have proximity issues. Something to keep in mind though.

When I root will I lose my contacts and everything, and if so will the contacts be able to be recovered using google?

Actually, from what I know about rooting it doesn't make you loose anything, its when you flash a rom or something.

Correct. All your doing when you root is giving yourself permission to be the superuser of your own files and you can now have access to them, which also allows you to be able to install ROMs.

One more question, the video and written instructions I got from youtube are conflicting on one he says put in on SD card and on the written he says root of internal. (it't the "Zedomax Video" on youtube) if someone can direct me to a better one or clear up what I should do it would be appreciated!
